Thunder and lightning. I couldn't find a different word for this. But it appears that people can actually get killed by this. So with this thread, i do not mean sharing stories like "I know someone who died by this.". But to return to the topic: It can actually get REALLY loud. One day, it was raining and stuff all the day. I was done showering that evening and put on my socks. Suddenly, one of my lights turned off and then turned on. One second later... BWAM!!! A giant sound was made by the thunder and it made me get a huge shock through my body. (No, i wasn't struck by the lightning) That was the first time in 6 years i got scared of things like that.

So... What's your story? I mean, what was the most special moment with the usual bad weather you have?

TIP: If you indeed know someone who died by lightning, my apologize. Let's not talk about that and maybe you can describe the loudest moment instead?

When I was 12 years old a large, old pine tree in the far part of our backyard was hit by lightning. It caught fire and burned up like nothing because it had been a dry summer and the thing was mostly dead anyway. Luckily, the heavy rains wetted the grass enough that it didn't burn the whole yard, the neighborhood, or the street.

Safe to say, it was extremely loud. I remember being in the back shed, watching the storm, and the door was open. There was a bright blue flash, extremely bright, and then I felt the concussion of the thunder. It was like getting hit by a blanket, maybe. I could feel the force of the air against me. The rumble shook all the windows and the whole shed rattled for a few seconds.

The heat rolling off the pine was tremendous (ha!) and it went up like a Roman candle. It took all of five minutes to be completely burned down and my dad and I already rolled out a pair of hoses off the two different sillcocks, or spigots or whatever you want to call them to hose the grass down so it didn't catch.

I got to play fireman for a day. It was an insane experience and something I'll never forget.

Surprising, maybe, I'm still not afraid of lightning or thunder. I respect not being outside when it's booming but I'm not afraid of it at all.

I've been though thunder and lightning when it struck substations and knocked out the power, but nothing tragic. I guess I am the weird one,I love thunder and lightning. It is nature's beauty and power in one.

Well to be honest I am fascinated with how it looks. Especially when the window is like normally closed, and all. For lightning I wouldn't be scared of, but get excited of how parts of it lights up the sky in the dark. Thunder I am scared of the noises easily makes me to jump. Since thunder makes this massive of a sound that is heard in the sky. @.@

Eniitan : Well, i got to give you this: It sure is fascinating. I mean, as long as you're safe from it, it's pretty cool to see. Though it can be scary, indeed. Good enough i don't know anyone who has been hit by lightning, or knows someone who has that.

Oldschool777 :
Same as what i said to Eniitan.

Well first of all my area is prone to severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. So I have a lot of lightning and thunder stories.

But looking back my most memorable moment occurred when I was 3 years old and I remember it well. I was walking through the house during a thunderstorm. When through the window I say a lightning bolt strike the ground and then came a loud boom of thunder. I actually thought that was cool. I think this is what got me interested into storms and meteorology. Since that moment at a very young age I started reading weather books and studying it. So yeah that particular moment is memorable to me because it created an interest in me that I still have today. I still study weather in fact I make my own forecasts for my area. I am also a storm spotter/chaser

Oh, I love to watch lightning streak across the sky *gazes at Vizzed's logo * and it's fun to see how close a storm is by counting the thunderclaps that accompany those brilliant strands of light. I guess one of the most recent "special moments" I had with a lightning storm was one year during a 4th of July party when my friends and I were eating watermelons inside the indoor patio while watching the fireworks go up outside. We were looking out over a lake and admiring the fireworks that were going up all around when suddenly lights brighter than the fireworks took over an entire section of the sky. We all jumped at the deafening roars of thunder and realized that nature had begun its own fireworks show to complement the fireworks that were exploding in different areas of the sky. XD It was pretty funny because the lightning literally took turns going up with the fireworks, almost as if someone was conducting an entire light show from the heavens. Needless to say, that ended up being one of the most memorable fireworks displays we had seen in a long time... I wonder if it's bad to look forward to watching another one? =P
