I have several outdoor projects I'd like to get done this Spring/Summer and one of them is getting rid of this hideous Golden Euonymus bush in my backyard. In the 20+ years we've had it, it's become absolutely mammoth in size, and it now threatens to swallow our patio. My siblings and I trim it back once or twice a year, but it's become so unsightly that I'm considering just getting rid of it altogether.

I don't want to shell out hundreds of dollars on renting a stump grinder or hiring a landscaper to take care of it, so I'm thinking once I trim the bush up enough, I'm going to drill several 1" holes into the stump and pour Epsom salt and a little bit of water into them and wait until it softens up and rots on its own. Since this is the most natural method of killing the bush stump (I'd prefer not to use an herbicide so I don't end up harming nearby trees), I know it will take longer, but I don't mind waiting as long as I'm seeing progress. I might also cover the stump with a dark tarp so that it prevents the stump from receiving rain and sunlight, which should help speed up the process.

It's pretty busted.
