Mario simply because He hasn't had any bad morden video games,  all of the mario titles as of late have been pretty good.

Sonic on the other hand has had plenty of bad modern titles:
Sonic 06,  Sonic Boom rise of lyrics.. and the other one..

Mario is a fat lazy plumber who goes out of his way to help some one who constantly gets themselves kidnapped and never seems to learn from it. Also, Sonic is actually a "cool" character more often than not, and is part of his gimmick, so bonus points there.

Also the Blue Blur is able to go really fast.
What can Mario do? Put on a Raccoon suit and not-even-quite-fly through the air by flopping his tail?

I'm going to say : Mario.  His games are part of my childhood. Anyway few years ago I liked both Mario and Sonic but after playing more Sonic games , I changed my mind. So , like I've said before , for me Mario's better than Sonic.
