So I was about to sit down on the subway next to this dude.

After I sat down next to him, he accused me of scootching away from him, which I wasn't even aware of doing until he confronted me a minute later. I was honestly playing a game on my phone and had my earbuds in. I guess I did it & was a bit zoned out or because there was a pole between us, but I don't really know....

He didn't yell at me, thank god, but he told me dislikes how women do that to him & that he doesn't mean any harm & that he too has sisters and a mother, who he would never hurt.

I don't really know how it all ended because he got into a fight with someone else on the train over if I was scared of him or not, which I wasn't & I got up & moved to another car because I wanted to stay safe and out of it & I wasn't interested in the argument. Neither of them moved to another car and spoke to me after.

I mean, I kinda understand why he'd be upset with me because he spoke in the past tense & spoke generally & said "you women" & I guess he had a bad past experience or something, but generally speaking, I'm not sure about why he would be upset about someone doing this to him to begin with, especially if it was a stranger.

It's okay if you would be upset if someone scootched away from you too, but I just don't understand why someone would get upset if someone else did so to them, especially if it's someone they don't know, like me and this dude were.

I mean, plenty of people have scootched away from me and got up in front of me & I've never taken it personally, so I just don't understand....? Educate me.

I do that all the time because even on the bus or train or whatever I like to have some sort of privacy. Not to mention how many wallets get stolen on there.

I guess some people feel like they're intimidating the other person despite not meaning to and it makes them feel unwanted or something. He's probably had it happen to him multiple times which caused him to get frustrated (ironically, getting angry because the other person is intimidated of you is a rather ineffective method to calm their nerves lol).

I wouldn't worry about it since you didn't even do it on purpose. He probably has low self esteem or something

Obviously some thing had to happen that traumatized this guy in to being that way, or he's just plan crazy / paranoid that all women hate him or are afraid of him. There's really no other explanation for why some one would care so deeply about a stranger doing some thing so little as scooting away from next to them on a bus / train / etc.

Whether it's self-esteem, a bad past experience, just plain craziness, or what ever, I wouldn't worry about it too much. I mean the guy is a "perfect" stranger ( yes, I'm using that term ironically ) so why care at all about what he thinks or why he got upset, especially when you clearly did nothing wrong in the first place lol.

That guy just woke up on the wrong side of bed. That honestly sounds like someone was just trying to either start something or maybe trying to get pity, I really don't know, but if someone scooted away from me, honestly, I'd be happy about it, I don't want to be too close to strangers whom I don't know, have never met, and don't intent to know.

No worries, he was just a weirdo. Might have just had a bad break up, or maybe he actually felt offended and is a weird dude in general. Sounds like a fun story to tell people and laugh about once you get to wherever you were going though, lol.

I'm gonna say, probably one too many bad experiences. Sometimes, it just feels like the whole world's against you (trust me, I know the feeling) and you'll see every act as directed at you.

There would be people like this in life sadly.....I don't see anything that you are in the wrong for. But, I guess he is having a bad day and it seemed you reminded him of a problem he had with women possibly? Maybe a wife or a lover he got into an argument with, and is still fuming forgetting his manners. It was wrong on his side to be rude to you like that, so he should had apologized. But, not all people would do that not to worry your not in the wrong for anything at all as the others stated.
