Jesus for the most part i think is portrayed as a western European type. However he would probably look a lot more like an arab than a western man.

I actually learned of this from watching the Adult Swim show The Boondocks. Huey makes a comment about how because of the region and differences in ethnicity, he would've almost for sure either been of black or middle-eastern descent (sorry if my terms aren't politically correct here). I'm honestly inclined to believe this is true, seeing as how most of Christianity was spread through races that are similar to what Jesus is commonly portrayed as. Meaning the races who followed the religion automatically assumed, or intentionally portrayed him as, the same race as themselves. At least to me it makes perfect sense. Similar to how I believe it's more likely man portrays God in his own image instead of the other way around, but that's a topic for another thread

I'd think that Jesus would have very dark skin, being of Jewish descent. Otherwise, I would say probably a brown tunic, since that was probably the standard garb at the time, and maybe some sort of hood to protect from the sun. That's my rational viewpoint, at least. My brain automatically wants me to picture the white, brown haired man in a white tunic with a red, blue, or purple sash and a beard. I agree with the beard though, at least.

I remember when growing up and going to church seeing pictures of Jesus. My aunties and uncles there would say that is what Jesus looks like. You brought up a very good question that made me to actually think on this. I have a feeling Jesus wouldn't really look like from how the pictures displayed that he would looked a lot more different than that. I'm not sure how to explain but I feel Jesus wouldn't have that face features I saw in the books. :/

   I never understood why people thought Jesus was white. There is really no evidence to support that he was white because he was not in a part of the world with a lot of white people. I am pretty sure he would look much less nice than in pictures and be of a different race. I also get annoyed when some people tell me Jesus was a Christian.

Going to echo what others have said. From a geographical standpoint it's likely he had dark skin considering where his birthplace was. Different parts of the world portray him to best fit their personal image of him, that's just human nature and goes for several religious figures.

Most of us are so used to the idea of him being white because its been ingrained in our minds since we were little due to that being how he's portrayed in most western countries. People have never really questioned it because most don't spend much time thinking about it because of that. I read the article (well, part of it, I skimmed over the other half), and Jesus was probably dark skinned due to geological stuff. I mean, yea nowadays people of different ethnicities could be everywhere but back then we didn't have things like boats or planes xp.

I actually found this article extremely interesting. It never really occurred to me how foreign the common image of him would have looked in Israel. I personally like the rougher look shown in the article.

Also, the Bible makes it pretty obvious that he had short hair (possibly even wooly) and not long hair like how he's always portrayed in images and movies. He also would've been pretty muscular since he was a carpenter (especially one back then) and not effeminate like some people think.
