This month's High Score competition is for 'Ghouls 'N Ghosts' for the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive. You can play it here:

The point of this competition is to get as high of a score as you can.


VIDEO REQUIRED: You must must use either the RGR Plugin's built in video recording or an external program to record the gameplay and then upload that video to the Vizzed YouTube account.

RULES: You MUST play the game using the RGR Plugin in 'Timetrial Mode' and take a screenshot of your top score from that by pressing F6. To play in 'Timetrial Mode', scroll down the page where the highscores would appear, you'll see a link that says 'Click Here to Compete for Highscore', click that. Once you've taken your screenshot, click the link near that one that says 'Click Here to Submit your Score' to submit your score.

You cannot unfairly get points or lives or use a glitch of any sort. If you find something that gives out unlimited points or lives, it will not count.


Prizes:
1st = 50,000 Viz or 5 Raffle Tickets
2nd = 30,000 Viz or 3 Raffle Tickets
3rd = 10,000 Viz or 1 Raffle Ticket

Raffle Tickets let you redeem steam games of $10 value and they are stackable.


Trophy Award
This is a newly added feature. The user who wins this competition will get a special trophy item added to their Vizzed Market inventory. Users will be able to display all the trophies they've earned on their profiles (when I'm done remaking them).

I'm interested in this contest, but you say you have to use the built in recorder...
Can we just require a video?
The built-in recorder creates really big files that don't always work properly...

I gave this version a test run... this is a really tough game. >.<

One more question, can we use as many continues as we'd like?

Vanelan : I never thought about that. What happens with the score when you do?

Last month Air Zonk (played for highscore) zeroed scores when you use continues, however I'd suggest "not allowing" continues when competing for highscores.

For example, in Air Zonk, you get big points when defeat the each boss in the final stage (200k, 500k+...) and the final boss give you 10,000,000. So, any player that used continue in the last part, then finished the game, would have a higher score than a player that played very well in all the game, except that lost to the last boss.

In some games the score is not zeroed when continue is used, etc.
In Ghouls 'N Ghosts, it returns to zero.

Well, just my opinion: do not allow continues for highscore competition.

In the other hand, you may allow continues for speedrun competition, for obvious reason. By the way, continues were used in the last month's Bomberman '94 speedrun competition.

Now, a question: default difficulty is required for this competition? Note: GNG default is "Professional", and the other is "Practice".

Davideo7 : It resets to zero.
Despite what TRB says, the game is pretty hard... so if you get to the last boss and it gives a big bonus, it should count regardless.
I am not sure if it gets progressively higher... I got really frustrated at the fire dog boss and quit after like 2 hours of trying to beat it.

This is the most ridiculously hard game I have ever played, and it's AWESOME. But I also need to know if I can use continues.... Right now, I'm just getting a feel for the game, but I definitely wanna try for a high score.

EDIT: This is my 666th post. Funny.

I think I'm going to let the score count no matter what. If someone wants to use that in their strategy to try and rack up the score on later levels then they definitely can but they'd miss out on points that can only be obtained early on so even if they're racking up points quicker, it's far harder and the max amount of points they'd be able to get would be lower.

I agree with Davideo ideas. That seems fair.

I alreafy played only the 1st game: Ghouls'N Goblins (Arcade), very hard game, for sure!

Similarly to Contra III, if you play on the easiest difficulty (practice mode) the game cycles back to the beginning automatically setting it to the hardest difficulty (professional mode). The points do not reset. This is pretty much required to get a score of 100K or more. Also, if you know how to manage your time (when checkpoints are which reset the timer) you can milk the clock a bit. However, this strategy can be quite risky and has ruined many of my previous highscore attempts. Anyway, this game is a solid port of a great but difficult arcade classic. Perhaps someone can finally beat the game in a highscore run. Good luck contestants!

I'm afraid I won't be able to take part in this competition as planned... The computer I was going to use to record stopped working and I no longer have the specifications to run a recording program while playing a game.
