Now, a lot of you may know that Harvest Moon games, as well as all simulation games, take hold of your soul and whisper soft tones of enchantment forcing you to play for countless hours.

But how far have you gone with this before? And with which game(s)?

The longest I've went is about 8 or 9 hours of Harvest Moon: Magical Melody. Which was really enjoyable and I kinda wanna do it again..

A Harvest Moon thread (mostly): Eirinn approves. :3

I can't say how many hours exactly, but back when I was terribly addicted to games I would actually play Harvest Moon from the time I got up until I went to bed, excluding breaks to eat and stuff.

In recent times, now that I have some self control (by the grace of God)? Probably five or six hours. As for games in general, I spent roughly twelve hours one day last year (Christmas Eve) building toy boxes for my nephew in Disney Infinity 2.0. That's a rare thing, but I do it once in a while.

*hears Magical Melody softly calling yoshi*

I thought many times about trying one of the GBA or SNES games.... It's just that I was busy bingeing Final Fantasy or Elder Scrolls. In fact, I might actually sit down and play one for a while.... tomorrow....

m0ssb3rg935 : SNES has bad translation and terrible controls

GBA would be your thing but the graphics are kinda icky in my opinion

Try Save the Homeland or Magical Melody, or just emulate Back to Nature / Harvest Moon 64

yoshirulez! : But ew, 3D cartoonyness..... I'd much rather play a 2D handheld game of this genre than something with little chibis or crude models. It's like this: unless the graphics are really, really good, it should be 2D

m0ssb3rg935 : but Save the Homeland looks fantastic, the shading and stuff and the shadows and the models, they look like anime.

And you like anime styled things, you even said so yourself

m0ssb3rg935 : While I typically don't enjoy super toony 3D stuff, I do have to agree that Save The Homeland is beautiful, but I don't recommend it as a first HM because it isn't the best one imo, and it did away with some key elements of the series. I would suggest Friends of Mineral Town or Back To Nature. They kind of blend 2D and 3D. Besides, those two were easily the best I thought. SNES version was technically unfinished, GB/GBC were "meh", N64 was when it really started picking up, and Back To Nature is when it was perfected. Friends of Mineral Town is almost a direct port of Back To Nature, but slightly inferior I think, however it sports some improvements. But then your brother knows your gaming tastes better, so his advice might be better. This is just how I feel about the games.
However...

yoshirulez! : (double summons. Yay!) I don't understand where you get that the SNES game had bad controls. They seemed spot on to me.

in my youth, I'd spent 14+ hour days just playing Harvest Moon or Animal Crossing. Nowadays, that time is spent browsing the internet and watching YouTube though

Man I have spent so many hours on Harvest Moon games in general especially with Friends of Mineral Town from the Gameboy Advance.

Here is an estimate for the games I've played so far:
Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town: 200+ hours in total
Harvest Moon 64: 50 hours in total
Harvest Moon DS: 70 hours in total
Harvest Moon Magical Melody: 5 hours in total so far (haven't touched it as much)
Harvest Moon Animal Parade: 20 hours in total so far
Harvest Moon Island of Happiness: 3 hours in total (the worst one in the series I've played so far and not returning back to it)

Probably near 16 hours in one session, however I usually only play any single Harvest Moon game for 40 to 60 hours before I've either beaten it or just get bored.
Sometimes I put up to 80 hours in, but it's no where near a common occurence.

Rune Factory is generally better than most Harvest Moon games though, and Rune Factory 4 is my favorite of all.
