Hey all. I was just remembering some good 'ol times when I played oras, and just happened to recall how many players I faced used the mega evolution on their pokemon. To me, it seemed almost as if the gameplay itself became very unbalanced all of a sudden. I like the designs, but the feeling of more pokemon getting a mega evolution worries me. What are thoughts about this everyone?

I like it. Not too many Pokemon have a mega evolution, and there's no evidence suggesting that they'll be adding more for Gen 7 yet. So as of now, I like it. Since it's optional to use.

LunarDarkness2 : Ah, a fair point, lunar. But another thing that concerns me regarding the mega evolution is some legendary pokemon like groudon, kyogre, and rayquaza seem to have it as well.

That is because simply put people think it is cool. It brings in use to otherwise horrible pokemon such as charizard and audino. So as of now I seem to like it.

Really depends on the Pokemon honestly.

Rayquaza? Mewtwo? Yeah no. They really did not need a mega at all. They're already strong enough as it is. Especially Rayquaza, they made that thing disgustingly powerful when mega evolved.

But things like Beedrill? Pidegeot? Audino? Yeah sure. I really like them getting mega forms. It makes Pokemon more usable and gives them a chance to shine in the meta game.

Final Weapon : No Charizard mega is great which is why I worded my post like I did. Both charizards are great but without the megastone it is really quite bad.

I dislike it more than I like it. Two reasons for why I dislike it really. Firstly the fact that like you said I think they're OP with little regard to the metagame where you basically cripple yourself by not using them. I'm one of those people who like using Pokemon other find weak. But they pretty much stand no chance against mega evolved Pokemon for the most part. Sure you can still use teams with no mega evolutions ingame but even that is putting you at a huge disadvantage especially if opting out of using the more powerful ones.  

Which by the way I don't like either, would make sense to give mega evolutions mostly to weaker Pokemon or Pokemon no one really pays attention to. That has happened to some extent but it's mostly Pokemon like Groudon, Blaziken and Garchomp that are getting them that don't need a power boost, making them ridicoulously overpowered compared to other Pokemon.

Secondly I feel like mega evolutions in general are more reminiscent of Digivolving. Which is something I dislike. Not that I dislike Digimon I actually enjoy playing Digimon games but I feel like Pokemon is better off doing its own thing in stead of trying to copy aspects of other games. From a lore aspect it's really poorly explained too. It has to do with the bond the trainer and Pokemon share yet any trainer can mega evolve their Pokemon regardless of happiness level as long as they have the mega stone and key item. I feel like making mega evolutions much harder to attain would've made them a lot more interesting. Then again I'd prefer they just weren't in the game at all and they'd just give Pokemon new evolutions in stead.

I would say, Mega Evolution helps Pokémon fight if there not too strong. But if its a level 100 Mega, Its op.

Nope, its not like it really gives too much of a boost considering what you have to do to get it, you wont even be using it until later on when it would be needed more, so there's not too much of an advantage.

I don't like the entire concept of mega evolution. I thought some pokemon that got it were already too OP. And bluntly, some of them still really suck. Some were overpowered, some looked awesome, some looked horrible. There are just ups and downs to the entire thing in my view.

When it comes to Mega Evolutions, I do think some of them are too OP. Pokemon like Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Mawile and Mega Charizard Y can wreck entire teams due to how much damage they can deal due to their OP abilities combined with their extremely high stats. Drought with 159 base special attack for Charizard, Parental Bond for a Mega Kangaskhan with a base 125 attack, and Huge Power for a base 105 attack Mega Mawile in particular are by far the most OP stat and ability combinations in the series.

In my opinion, Mega Evolutions are only OP when used on a Pokémon that has high stats and a extremely high level (I.e. Level 100). Other than that, I see Mega Evolutions as an option to give you a chance against Pokémon that would otherwise one-hit-KO you. And the OP is probably the reason that Mega Evolutions are temporary. So yeah, I think are OP in some situations, but are otherwise extremely helpful.
 
Lexatom :  Gen 7 is Sun and Moon, right? Just making sure, because I am probably going to get a Gen 7 game soon... Also, are they already out? I haven't been keeping up with any news lately...
 
awesomeguy279 :  I don't think Megas came along mainly because of appearances... As I said earlier in this post, it gives you a chance against otherwise impossible opponents. But yeah, I do think the Mega forms of Pokémon give the look a huge boost, too.

I find mega evolution in Pokemon  to be extremely over powered now. Seriously it makes no sense but then again I think 90% of the Pokemon in generations past 4 are over powered. To me it seems like game freak has made it so type advantage means little to nothing when it comes to winning a battle anymore and this is especially the case when it comes to Mega Evolution's.
