If you catch a wild Metapod or Kakuna in gen 1 games it will only have harden.
And if I recall if you evolve a Caterpie or Weedle in Red / Blue it doesn't learn Harden (they fixed that point from Yellow onwards).

I've always hated growl and the basic stat moves when you first get a pokemon. Hm, I'm going to growl at this opponent and hope to best them when they keep tackling me to death. That's like barking at a man who's attacking with a knife. I always get rid of stat moves unless it's something like stun spore, poison powder, and sing.

Yeah, I know, it inflicts confusion. It's sort of the opposite of Swagger, in that it doubles special attack instead of attack while giving confusion. (The same as one SD, or in Flatter's case, NP) However, Swagger doubles the damage a pokemon will do to themselves if they hit themselves because of how confusion works. Flatter? No such thing. And you just gave them a free upgrade in the special attack slot. Yeah, they're confused, but if I have an Alakazam out, and you use it, it's game over (Mainly due to Synchronise).

Focus Punch, anyone? It's the riskiest attack out there. I had to get my third badge in Hoenn by beating up a Pokemon who only used Focus Punch, killing it's focus and letting me live.
