When I was younger, the mumps got me pretty bad for about a week. I couldn't sleep, the pain was so bad. Sitting up seemed to help out on the pain a bit, but it still was there. It felt like my neck was on fire and no one was there to put it out. My family didn't get much sleep that week, either.

The first thing that came to mind was after I went swimming with my cousins in Canada.

We went to public pool on a weekday in the afternoon, so we basically had the pool to ourselves. Little did we know they overdid the chlorine by A LOT, probably expecting no one to come. We all felt our eyes burn pretty bad and our eyes got really red, but no one really said much because we were like, hey, it's a pool, it happens.

When we got home, all of us had the most violent puking and diarrhea combos I'd ever seen, probably from the chlorine irritating our stomach lining. All 7 of us that went had to huddle over 2 toilets puking our guts (and more!) out, and we reserved the third toilet for diarrhea (taking turns, of course-- It's a miracle no one soiled their pants!). I had never felt more miserable in my life. Drinking water and Gatorade then taking pills, all of it being thrown up right after is horrible. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Not to mention being with 3 other people around one toilet, ewwww... It was 3x more disgusting than it sounds, trust me.

Needless to say, we never went back there again.

When I was younger, and a few years ago, I came down with a pretty bad bug. The reason those two instances come to mind, is that I was vomiting horribly all night long both times. It only lasted for a few days, but I had a high fever and chills. I stayed in bed pretty much the entire time. Ugh, it sucked.

I've had strep throat a few times as well. It's horrible. You can't swallow, eat, drink. I haven't had it for a while and hopefully it stays that way.

The worst and most recent sickness that I've had is bronchitis. During December I noticed that I was having trouble breathing and coughing a lot, but thought it was just my asthma  acting up. I didn't really feel sick. It lasted until late January, when I actually started to feel pretty horrible, then I finally decided to go see the doctor. It turned out that I had bronchitis. I was given a different inhaler (flovent) and it finally cleared up around the end of February.

Then about a month later, I was playing racquetball with my sister. I noticed that I was having trouble breathing, but kept pushing myself. Eventually I had to stop. My inhaler wasn't working and I felt like I was going to pass out. I knew it was bronchitis again, but I didn't bother going to the doctor until I got sent home from work. I was bed ridden for about a week while I recovered.

It was asthmatic bronchitis. After getting yelled at by the doctor (I should have gone to the hospital, numerous times I guess), I got a prescription for the same inhaler I was prescribed before. Apparently the new one I was given previously was a dosage for a toddler. Anyway, I've been taking it regularly, and thankfully I've been fine.

Fishergirl7 : Oh gosh, I remember back during one of my high school years, one of my best friends had strep throat and he looked horrible. He would still come to school, but he couldn't say anything, and throughout each class, he just sat there looking all miserable. About how long does it take to cure?

Also, I can't stand vommiting, I would probably say that it's one of the things I hate and am scared of the most. Even if I just have the feeling that I will, but I don't, I still end up feeling miserable during that time. That's why I'm always drinking things like ginger ale lol.

You sound like you had a lot going on with your health oh boy, *pat pat*

A few years ago I had the flew and was bedridden for about a week, everything tasted bad except for soup, and I hate most kinds of soup.
Luckily in that one week I was able to watch all 150 episodes of the Dragon Ball Anime.

It actually ended up being a good terrible flu.

I have had the flu once and a staff infection once from a thorn cutting my hand. Well it started with a thorn cut but could have got it from a waiting room or petting zoo that week I don't know. Both lasted a long time and both times had to miss almost a week of school. But the staff needed a Dr to give me medicine plus I still have some scars. I also had to go to ER a few months ago for an ear infection that got really bad in just 2 days. It was so bad my ear was bleeding and couldn't wait for a Dr appointment. Mine are not as bad as the others but were still pretty scary to me.

I've had my share of the "common cold," but that's really all its ever been for me. My immune system is apparently really good so as long as I'm careful, I rarely get sick anymore. I haven't actually thrown up ( vomited ) since I was really young and I don't really remember any bad times, although I'm sure there were. I'll get a slight fever every once in a while too, but nothing real major.

I do have one story though. It was a normal, busy day at work for me in the shop about 2 years ago now. It ended up being a 12 hour day for me so as you can imagine, I was pretty tired when I got home. My wife had told me that she had finished cooking dinner and there would be some for me when I got home. Dinner that night was simply hot dogs, mac and cheese, and green beans...sort of a holiday / cookout kinda thing. Anyway, I remember being really hungry and thirsty when I got home since I was so busy at work that I didn't have any time to eat or drink at all. Long story short, I immediately went for the leftover hot dogs ( there were 4 of them left ) and the mac and cheese and green beans she had left. The mac and cheese and green beans were still hot but she put the hot dogs in the fridge. I was so hungry that I chose not to re-heat the hot dogs and I ate everything in about 15 minutes I think. Little did I know that I was in for the worst night of my life after eating all that. So I wake up in the literal middle of the night ( like 3:00am ) with some stomach pain. I thought it might have been a touch of ( I'm sorry I'm saying this ) diarrhea but I got nothing. The pain in my stomach got worse and worse and I couldn't go back to sleep. I felt like I was developing a fever as well. So I took the only thing that would put me to sleep...NyQuil...and also drank some water and went back to sleep.

I did some research on the symptoms that I was having and I found out I had a minor ulcer. It literally felt like I had a hole in my stomach and that's what an ulcer is,
literally. I think it might have been those hot dogs that I ate really quickly since I was so hungry. I still eat hot dogs every once in a while today, but I'm a lot more careful about it. So far, nothing else has happened...

I'm thankful that so far I haven't had anything worse than a flu. The flu is the worst sickness that I've ever had. I had my longest-lasting flu on Memorial Day weekend when I was staying in a hotel with my family. I woke up early in the morning and threw up once and that was it for that problem, but I also had a fever of 100 degrees.

The fever lasted over a week since it would only go away if I took Motrin for it, and then it would come back once I stopped taking it. It eventually just went away on its own but until then I was desperate to get rid of it!

Pacman+Mariofan : Wow, you are lucky if the worst thing you ever had is the flu. I have had the flu or stuff like the flu a bunch of times before, and it sucks so much, but I have had thing that were worse a bunch of times, so whoever only has the flu as the worst thing that's happened to them so far is pretty lucky.

Though flus still suck a lot, unless you get to stay home and sleep, then that kind of makes up for it just a bit.

zanderlex : I know I'm lucky for it and I know that only getting those more minor sicknesses will really come in handy in the future when I have a job. Yeah, flus are awful especially when you aren't home. I got pretty homesick when I had the flu in that hotel since I didn't have the comfort of my own bed or my own dogs around me. I was still able to sleep a good amount though.

It's funny because I got sick the day before and people were telling me not to go. Sure, I got like 20 other people sick who went on the trip with me, but it was all totally worth it in the end.

I think the worst sickness I ever had was when I had a major asthma attack, if that counts. It really almost got me but I survived it and, well here I am lol. I also have a really good immune system so common colds hardly ever bug me besides not being able to breathe well because of the congestion.

Minuano : I wonder if that would count as a sickness or more of just a disease, but I bet it sucks. I was watching a show and a kid had it, and even though it was a comedy, it looked HORRIBLE.

Alcohol poisoning, yep definitely by far. Literally dry heaving for a whole day. And your head hurts the whole time. Just bad business altogether

The longest sickness I've ever had lasted about a week, and it was miserable. I probably threw up three times, had to leave school once, and didn't go for the rest of the week. I couldn't really get out of bed at all, and it was the middle of winter, so my perception of time was way off. I woke up at eight o' clock in the night and thought that it was eight o' clock in the morning. No one was home, and I called my dad to see why he wasn't home, because I needed a ride to school, and he was annoyed with me. xD

But the worst sickness I've ever had lasted about nine hours. When I got home from school one day, I got sick, and threw up right after getting off the bus, in my neighbor's yard, coincidentally. I apologized to him the next day. After that, I had to throw up, and threw up right in front of the toilet. I was asked why, and it was because I had diarrhea. It was awful, and the stench was worse.

Best part is though, since at the time I was living with my mom in Tennessee, my dad came down to visit, and he took a nap in my bed. He got my sickness and went back up to Ohio, where it spread all the way over to the grand ol' state of Michigan.

So I caused a national epidemic. Woot.

I had ITP when I was in kindergarden. we found out when I came home from school and I had a HUGE blood clot from spleen. I had to get it taken out or I would die.

Well I was closing to dying several times as a baby, can't tell the name of the specific sickness I had though. Other than that I was often pretty sick as a young child since I had a weakened immune system due to being born two months prematurely. That also caused my sicknesses to have a stronger effect.

Probably the worst memory I have was when I had a nearly 40 degree celsius fever (around 104 fahrenheit) and had a really sore throat to the point where I could barely eat anything (think it's called Strep throat in English). Had to get penicillin prescribed to cure that and basically had trouble doing anything even sleeping or eating due to how I was burning up and could barely swallow my own saliva. I ended up alright once the penicillin started taking effect and the fever calmed but those initial days were basically a living hell for me.

Well I'm blessed I don't really get sick like at all but the last time I remember being sick it was like back in the 7th or 8th grade, it felt like I was dying I had got a stomach virus and all I did was throw up and couldn't hold anything food or drink wise down it literally felt like I was going to die, so the stomach virus would have to be the worst sickness I've ever had.
