Yeah, no one seems to have made an olympics thread so far so I figured i would make one.

http://www.vancouver2010.com/

That link should take you to the current medal standings.

So far only 1 event has completed with medals given out. I would copy and paste it but the formatting isn't great.... so feel free to check for yourself how the medal standings are going.

I'm a Canadian and a big hockey fan so the only medal that matters is the Men's Hockey Gold. Everything else is great... but that one is essential. And the competition for it is going to be tough!

I had been really looking forward to watching the Olympics, but the cable on my campus apparently doesn't think that most of the events are worth airing. So far, they have been on for only 2 hours in total, a little bit of ski jump coverage and speed skating. All I have to say is they better show the luge and curling!

I've been watching everything that's been covered so far, been pretty exciting. The opening ceremony was a little embarrassing with the 1 torch not rising lol but other than that it was pretty cool.

I don't have a specific favorite, I usually just watch everything I can.

Current Medal Count

Country Gold Silver Bronze Total
USA 1 1 2 4
KOR 1 1 0 2
NED 1 0 0 1
SUI 1 0 0 1
SVK 1 0 0 1

I'm really surprised that the Germans don't have any Gold Medals yet, they lead the last Winter Olympics in Gold Medals. Of course I'm rooting for USA, I'd be an @$$ hole if I didn't but I do like seeing other countries win too, so no matter who wins it's always fun to see, just as long as the person who wins isn't arrogant and isn't Johnny Weir.

I would like to point out that you missed showing about 5 other countries medals (probably more). the list is much longer than the one you've got. That just shows the countries with gold medals.

And Canada is next on the list that I just looked at with a silver. The US did pretty well the first day. 4 medals compared to 2 or 1 for everyone else that medaled.

I figured I'd just show the top 5 medals since I plan to do this every few days and a few days from now the list will be pretty big but here's the overall:

South Korea 1 1 0 2
Slovakia 1 0 0 1
Switzerland 1 0 0 1
Netherlands 1 0 0 1
Poland 0 1 0 1
Germany 0 1 0 1
Canada 0 1 0 1
Russia 0 0 1 1
France 0 0 1 1
Austria 0 0 1 1

I haven't really had a chance to watch the olympics but it was really sad to hear about that guy who died while practicing for his event. You really have to feel for the guy because who knows his family was watching and it was his dream to even be there. It was really sad to hear.

You mean Nodar Kumaritashvili for luging? I find it amazing that the Olympic community simply shrugs on his death.

You laugh, you luge.

the response is hardly a shrug... He has gotten more attention than anything else has since his death happened. The Georgian team got a standing ovation while walking through the opening ceremonies and he is mentioned every half hour on all the news stations. And do you really expect his death to prevent hundreds of other people from competing? I'm not sure what else you want anyone to do.

And woot for Canada! We've got 1 of each type of medal.

I don't know what you're talking about xfighter but as Geeogree said, this guy has got a lot of attention and respect. I've been watching plenty of Olympics and they usually mention him here at least every hour and the opening ceremony dedication that geeogree mentioned.

By the way, did you see the figure skating last night? It was kinda hard to go from watching them jump a hundred feet in the air on ski's to twirls and skips!

I know! I believe that's an Olympic Record for scoring that many in a single game although I'm not entirely sure so correct me if I'm wrong.
