I've been smoking for almost 8 years now, and I can tell its starting to adversely effect my health. It's nothing serious, but I'd like to stop before it gets to that point. So I'm giving up cigarettes to use a vape pen but have minimal experience in that area. Does anybody have any experience or advice to give here? (Besides saying 'Just quit altogether')

I've never gotten into the vape thing (I tried it, but it reminded me of something else so it was a nope situation for me). But I'd recommend going to your local shop. Most will let you try a few selections out and help you find what you need.

Personally, I quit smoking in April of 2015 with Champix. I've missed smoking but the gym has helped, so on april 27th I'll be one-year nicotine free. Whichever path you choose I wish you luck.

I would really suggest the Nicoderm patch. It helped my parents to stop smoking and they have been cig free for many years now. Besides those vapes/e-cigs are dangerous, those are not tightly regulated and the charging of those thing can cause them to catch fire or explode.

Plastic, good for you. Cigarettes are just a waste in both health and money.

Although,Solid Snake would disagree with me,lol.

I am not a cigarette smoker personally, but I know a couple smokers who were able to quit or at least drastically cut back their cigarette smoking by using vapourizers containing nicotine. It satisfies the nicotine craving without any of the other harmful chemicals found within commercial cigarettes. So while you will still have a nicotine addiction it does appear to be drastically healthier.

Just make sure you choose "e-juice" that does not have harmful artificial flavourings: http://www.electroniccigaretteconsumerreviews.com/popcorn-lung-bronchiolitis-obliterans/ I'm sure most flavours do NOT have this chemical in them, but it's something to watch out for and ask about when you're choosing a flavour.

Annette : Good lookin' out It's definitely something I'll keep an eye out for. The whole point of switching was for the health differences anyway. I'm not in a position to give up the nicotine quite yet, but at least I'm not throwing hundreds of carcinogens into my body all at once anymore.

Mynamescox44 : I wish I had found this sooner scox ... my parents were smokers for years while I was little and it has effected their health they stopped smoking with the use of Nicoderm CQ patches ... and yes quitting is hard since the Nicotine addiction causes bad headaches till the withdrawal from it is over though you've fought alot worse stuff and won so I knowz you can do this it is just one more step to quitting something else that is bad for your health and never give in because I'll be here cheering for you every step of the way ^-^

thankfully I've never done any drugs, cancer sticks, or got into drinking alcohol in my life granted I did try a sip of 2 different kinds of beers and found the taste repulsive so I'll never do that again XP

As somebody who owns a good vape setup and is also trying to quit, you need to invest yourself more into vaping than you do with smoking. I haven't been able to quit yet but I mostly blame it on lack of commitment.

They're really good for people that want to quit. Its a great hobby that you can get behind and there's flavors for everything.

Most of the stuff you read about the dangers behind it really just don't follow the truth behind the situation. The battery explosions are caused by lack of knowledge and using bad batteries/wrong chargers, the 'irreversible lung damage' is non-existent (Only 6 people working inside a popcorn factory have ever contracted the illnesses, and cigarettes have hundreds times more of that specific chemical than ecigs do.) and most tests on safety were done on rats who were given human doses of the vapor. Not exactly fair reporting.

Just do your research, amp up your nicotine levels if what you have isn't strong enough, and always follow instructions. When you quit smoking, gradually decrease the nicotine in the juice until you're at 0mg, and then you can choose to either ditch it or keep it as something to do.

When you use a pen, theres absolutely nothing to worry about, but if you get into a high tech setup, like I have, a little bit of knowledge goes a long way, and definitely makes the experience better.

Playing with smoke tricks is a lot more fun when you don't get a harsh feeling fr it too.

Thank you everyone for your responses. I've been off cigarettes for almost 2 months now and I love the device I got. Thank you for all the feedback and advice. I'm going to continue working on making this habit more healthy and hopefully get rid of the nicotine altogether. I can't wait to see how much more progress I can make
