This is something I found to be very interesting and that I used to believe before reading this. I was one of the many people who thought that caffeine in items such as coffee, soda, and things like Red Bull affected your heart, but it has recently been proven that it does not.

Of course, we aren't talking about those who drink tons of caffeine because that will have effects elsewhere, but the Journal of American Heart Association has proven that there is no direct relationship between caffeine intake and either rapid or irregular heartbeat or any form of heart disease.

Booyah!! Or as Dr. Sheldon Cooper would say; BAZINGA!  I have come to terms that anything that comes from nature is not bad to your body. Coffee follows that rule. That's my view on anything that may be said as harmful. Of course, easy peasy with the caffeine intake and anything else for that matter should be moderate. (Says the coffee addict).
But, glad to see more and more articles and reputable sources make such statements.

As with most of what is consumed by humans, there's better taste in moderation. Excess caffeine IS linked to problems (difficulties sleeping, mostly, but apparently not the heart), but drinking 1-2 cups a day will not harm you. In fact, I heard of other studies saying that it can actually benefit your system.

janus : The only big use for caffeine is to keep you awake, so it's not technically a problem if it keeps you up when you try to sleep because that's mostly the reason why you had it in the first place.

What I meant by that: too much caffeine can affect your nervous system and make you restless. I'm not sure if "caffeinomania" is an actual condition, but Honey used to drink 3-4 cups a day (at least) and had headaches when he didn't. It resolved itself since.

Well, nice to know it does not harm your heart, but it is still bad if you drink a ton of Mountain Dew every day. I try to only drink 2-3 cans of Coke a day.

Caffeine isn't too bad for you, as long as you're drinking coffee or tea. In fact, tea and coffee lower your risk of certain types of cancer, and are generally pretty healthy options. (Unless you put tons of sugar or cream into it. ) But I mean, I am a coffee fanatic, and drink a lot of tea now and then. But not in insane amounts, or anything like that.

Taking straight up caffeine pills isn't too good for you. In fact, with the dangers of overdosing, and all of that; I honestly don't know why they make them. Stay far away from stuff like them.

My mom still won't let me drink monster energy drinks help.
Anyway, I drink a lot of soda sometimes. And since I have ADHD, the caffeine actually calms me down rather than make me even more hyper. It's weird.
Now, in regard to my comment about Monster. The only time Sive tasted it was when I was at a week long trip without parents at the beach. It was awesome but then I told them I drank some Monster and she tells me she doesn't want me drinking it. Maybe if I show her the article she will change her mind? (Doubt it...)

LunarDarkness2 : lol, Monster will kill you. Monster barely even has caffiene, it has other things that keep you awake, which will without a doubt have massive negative effects. Heck, there was Once an article about some guy that had 2 cans and he was paralyzed for a day.

You know, caffeine doesn't really affect me in a way, basically, the same way before drinking high caffeinated drinks and after. So, why people has this uproar about energy drinks and all needs to look at the true facts of energy drinks and other caffeine drinks.

I have a cousin who told me that there is a lot of foul ingredients in energy drinks that'll make someone sick. But she's one of those conspiracy theorists, she thinks that the 9/11 attacks were done by the US government, so that is why I don't listen to her.

So, caffeine does more good than bad because it can help out your body a whole lot, but that doesn't really mean to go out there and do caffeine, because too much caffeine is really bad.

But hey, energy drinks isn't as bad as alcohol, at least they keep you alert and focused, alcohol makes you stupid and tired.

IgorBird122 : Caffiene in stuff like coffee and soda is fine, like you said, but in real energy drinks, there is stuff in those that can in fact kill you, it's not like those things have any bad properties about them, it's just that the things in most energy drinks is something that humans still haven't been able to fully adapt to.

I love me some caffeine. More accurately, I love me some Mountain Dew. I drink about 3-4 cans a day at the very most, but make sure to drink more water than that. I don't have ADHD or anything, but caffeine tends to help me relax more so than getting me hyped. I sleep better at night when I drink a can of Mtn. Dew close to sleeping than if I don't. It's good to know it won't affect my heart, as smoking for 6 years probably did enough damage already. My biggest problem with caffeine is if I go a whole day without, the day after that I'll get mild headaches that will last for a week unless I get more caffeine. But Mountain Dew is a staple in my life so it rarely happens. And "energy" drinks are bad for you not because of caffeine, but everything else they put in them.

I had a nutritionist explain to me that using caffeine or "energy" drinks for energy is like using an ATM. You're making withdrawals from an energy reserve in your body, and if you don't eat right and exercise enough, eventually you'll overdraw and cause harm to your body. It's not actual energy being produced, but it tricks your body into thinking the energy is there.

That's 100% true about withdrawals and it goes for any medicine. Literally any medicine that you take doesn't give you anything, just amplifies or stops what you already have so you feel like you have more or less. It is actual energy, just getting all of it at once.
