Okay, this show WOW! I am into it like crazy and watch it every day after work. Truly fascinating to see these vikings conquer new lands. The show is very gore at times, there's sexual content, rape, murder, beheading, losing limbs quite a bit, and it really gets you mad in many scenes.
I for one love that so many stories so much of history itself is making it to the screen. I love watching this barbarians and get to see how much they worshiped their gods and how that along with greed and power influenced their decisions.

Have you watched the show?
Thoughts?
Are you Pro Ragnar or against him?
Thoughts on his former wife Lagertha rising to power to equal Ragnar.

So it's presented as a series rather than a documentary?

Anyway since I love history I might one day give it a shot. However I will read a little before to know how "true" it is.

I saw the very first episode when it came out a couple years ago but I wasn't a fan of it. I liked the commercials for it and I thought id like it but i got bored easily. I might try again one day.

As a Scandinavian I'd question it as a historical representation of how the Vikings were they've exaggerated a lot of things and personally it's kind of difficult to take it seriously sometimes due to how they try to fake an accent which you can clearly notice if you're a scandinavian (at the very least in the early episodes which I've seen) Though overall it's still quite accurate compared to other shows and it's a pretty good show considering there hasn't really been a lot of shows that actually uses Vikings prior to this I think it's pretty cool that there's finally a successful one.

I haven't seen it. But I have heard it's really good. I watch a lot of other stuff at the moment so I can't really squeeze in another show right now. I might see it at some point. I'm glad you're liking it.

Yes, I
guess documentaries do not excite people as much. I am sure there’s some exaggeration
and alterations here and there to make it more entertaining. I don’t necessarily
take it all as truthful but, rather see a glimpse of how life was before our
advances. What’s very true in the series is their view of life itself and their
strong belief in gods and how everything happens for a reason. Birth defects,
weather, and bad crops all seeing as a sign of punishment and how they would
consider killing a child for being born with a defect rather than have it live
a tough life. It’s very interesting to see how they derived every decision from
their god and how they communicated with it. Also, the very gruesome ways they
killed, punished, and sacrificed human beings is very barbaric. It’s one thing
to read about that than to actual see it unfold with your own eyes- to me it
was a bit shocking at first.

zanderlex The first few
episodes tend to be more of trying the waters. Should try watching a few more
it gets way deeper into their way of life and conquest for power. It gets very
interesting and a lot of action now.

Zlinqx That part I can’t
say much of since as you said it would be easier for you to notice the fake
accent and such. But, I can understand, if I’ve watched shows and movies of
people faking my accent and it does throw me off a bit sometimes. I am not sure
if the stories happened exactly like that specially Ragnar himself since I am
sure they would have to exaggerate a bit to make him more entertaining but then
again they were very liberal back then so it’ll still make for an entertaining
show. I am glad more shows like these are being made whether they exaggerate or
not because either way it makes people more interested in these parts of history
and are more likely to search for the actual story online. You have to find the
mediums that appeal to the most people so I think they did an amazing job at
that.

pacN I understand, I
actually switched back to Vikings now while other shows get new seasons in. Too
many to keep track of so I add them to my phone calendar so I know when a new
season is coming out. It’s very entertaining and really makes you grasp the
concept of how far we have come and how much we have achieved from how they
were in the past. Crazy to actually think how complex our way of life and our
laws are compared to their liberal ways. It’s a really good show in depicting
the great difference between the past and present and how some of their beliefs
still survived today.
