It saddens me to tell you that Acting Great, Alan Rickman has passed at the Age of 69. Strange that he died of cancer at the same age as David Bowie, and not a lot of people knew what his health situation was.

He's been in classic movies like Die Hard, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, and the Harry Potter series as well as been a huge stage presence in plays like Romeo and Juliet. A true actor in every sense of the word. RIP to a great man that was loved by many.

Here's a good Obituary that the BBC posted online http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-35313578

What are some of your favorite Memories of Mr. Rickman?

"But know this; the ones that love us never really leave us."

Losing Alan Rickman, Snape, is just the worst for me. On top of Harry Potter being the biggest influence on my life, as far as a book series go (I know he acts in the movies, let me go on), Alan Rickman brought such a cool air to the Snape role that he was at all times, 100% believable in the role.

If Snape were a real person, Alan Rickman set the tone for exactly what he'd be like.

He was a very talented actor. He was a very talented man.

I can't pick one moment, because his career was a lifetime full of them.

Oh man that sucks, he was great. The only movies I saw with him in them was Harry potter so I don't know about his other roles, but I was a huge fan of his work. At least he lived a good full life, getting into your 60's is great. When it comes to the transformation from a book to a movie, he was able to give Snape so much more character and depth, and in the movies, his character was one of the coolest, thanks to what he has done to it.

A legend, to be sure.  Perhaps my favorite Studio C cast member, Jason, seems to have a healthy obsession with Snape.  He has taken on the role many times in sketches, and I hope with this recent news, that he will take on the role again to honor Mr. Rickman.  Perhaps my favorite Snape quote is the classic "turn to page 394".

Jordanv78 : I have seen bits and pieces of the newer ones, but I have never seen the original one, I'm mostly not a fan of pure action movies like this.

The Sheriff of Nottingham has died . I was like, 7 or 8 when Robin Hood Prince of Thieves came out and this is still one of my best movies of all time. Even though I watched it in French, I could still see the excellent of Rickman's performance as the Machiavellian politician wanting to get more power to himself.

zanderlex : The newer ones are horrible compared to the first two. The first one especially, has good plot and character development. Something the last couple movies have lacked.

janus : I know! Kinda sad that not more people remember this movie, or the role he played it in. Great stuff. As well as his Roles in Galaxy Quest, Sense and Sensibility and Dogma.

I don't usually comment on these threads, but Alan Rickman was such a great actor that I felt encouraged to do so.

Similarly to leggy, I find his performance as Snape to be exceedingly exceptional. He, similarly to Heath Ledger and The Joker, did a completely masterful job at becoming Snape. I never viewed him as an actor playing Snape, because of the effort he put in, but rather as an embodiment of Snape. Truly, he was an inspiring actor.

You know, to be honest with you, I'm kinda surprised that more people haven't replied to this thread. I know that most younger people only know Alan Rickman for his role in the Harry Potter movies, but he's been in a ton of great movies over the years. He was a wonderful actor in every sense of the word.

Jordanv78 : Ah, I love the people that translate the names of foreign movies... You would never know how they renamed Die Hard in here.

I did see Die Hard, but I didn't even notice Alan was the villain. Of course, he was a lot younger than he was when the first Harry Potter movie came out, and with the beard and such. Still, he made a great role in that movie, and what to say about his Snape role that everybody else hasn't said yet.

I haven't seen a lot of movies, and of course I'm not into American stage acts for obvious reasons, so nothing much I can say. Still, it's sad to see we've barely started 2016 and already two big stars have passed away at a young age.

There should be a movement in Facebook where everyone posted pages of a random book in page 394. Can't think of a better tribute to him than that.

I've been a fan of this guy ever since seeing Die Hard years ago. I probably haven't seen half of the movies he has been in but I've always enjoyed his work. He doesn't get nearly enough credit for how well he can change to fit the character he was becoming. People give Johnny Depp a lot of credit for that but I don't know too many villain roles he played that were as convincing as Rickman was.

Still, this is a loss for sure. It's too bad he had to die so young.

Jordanv78 : distance probably has to do. You know, since he's British maybe people in the U.S. don't care as much. When the actor who did Dumbledore (blank!) died, I don't remember seeing "much" sorrow either, even considering that he had been a more prolific actor. The same thing goes for Christopher Lee.

That's not good. He was in so many excellent movies. He was a good Sheriff of Nottingham in Prince of Thieves. He was an amazing alien in Galaxy Quest; a good bad guy in Die Hard. And he played a good Snipe in Harry Potter. He will be deeply missed.

janus : I don't think that's it. The Harry Potter series was HUGE in the US. Hence why they built a huge amusement park of it in Florida at Universal. Not to mention his other movies. I've seen a ton of outpouring on Facebook and stuff like that.

Besides a lot of active members in the forums aren't even from the US.

Jordanv78 : I know the Harry Potter movies have been popular. Nevertheless, I do not believe that the majority of his work has been advertised well in the U.S. Like most actors he probably did a lot of theater, and probably some T.V. too. Compare it to what impact in the media Harrison Ford's death would have, in comparison (their age is similar).

Also, even if many members are indeed from outside the U.S., you have to wonder what their first language is. Other than the blockbusters, I would wager that most of his work was not translated in the local language.

Hans Gruber was his greatest role. I refer to him in other movies as Hans Gruber...
He wasn't BAD as Snape, but anyone who hasn't seen his other movies doesn't know what a great actor he was.

We will miss you, Hans Gruber.... I mean Alan Rickman.

As for all of you who haven't seen him in anything other than Harry Potter, you have homework!
Go watch Die Hard, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Galaxy Quest, or just about anything else he was in...maybe not Sense and Sensibility... although, he may have acted well enough to make that movie watchable.
