It seems that a bill would fine Oklahoma students 50 dollars for bullying. I don't know if this would actually do any good, but I figure some of you have other thoughts about this. I'll post the link to this story below, so you can read about it.

It's a different approach but I can't imagine it being easy to enforce. Bullying isn't a black and white issue like some people think it is.

Sure there are always situations where a bigger kid bullies a smaller kid but quite often the worst bullying comes from people who are very nearly your peers but something has happened to drive a wedge between people.

Also, you can't really legislate this kind of behavior away. If it doesn't happen at school can they be fined.... also, how do you prove the bullying actually happened. Unless you have a credible witness it's tough to prove. You could have kids using this to bully other students out of money depending on how it is enforced.

That's basically how it's always been with bullying. Like in school, I'd be bullied most likely in private, where no one except me knew it happened. Shows that bullies maybe cowards, but they are pretty smart as well, so they'll probably find a way around this bill as well.

I've read a lot and I've seen people accuse others of 'bullying' because they criticize their t-shirt.  That's not bullying.  I see people react so defensively about things that don't really matter.  Is bullying a problem?  If it begets violence and fear, sure.  If it results in someone's feelings being hurt about the type of pencil they use.... c'mon.

We live in a society where no one can accept criticism.  Everything is an attack on you personally.  I coach a high school soccer team and I tell kids they're doing things wrong and they get angry and upset.  I had a captain tell a younger player he was wrong and the younger player told us he was being bullied.

We saw what happened.  Nothing happened.  No one was shoved, no one was threatened.  A senior told a sophomore to do something different because it would end up making us lose games.

Fining people won't work because bulling is subjective.  Speeding in a car?  No.  Littering?  Nope.

Bullying?  Yeah.  You can't define it very well and you can't fine for it.  That's a terrible idea.

I think this is a terrible idea, bullying usually happens when nobody else is looking, so someone just has to say that someone Bullied them and there will be no proof that it happened or not aside for what the accused person says, so the "victim" should always win the money even if they lied.

I, for one, was bullied in school.  I don't think it is necessary to fine them, but perhaps more of a corporal punishment would be nice.  I always liked watching bully beat down, and it gave the bully a chance to win some money too...if he or she could win against a trained martial artist.  There is nothing good about being a bully, but understanding why they are a bully helps.  Perhaps their parents bully them, or they just have a not so good life in general.  I learned to fight for my self, and that is pretty much all you can do.  Teachers and law enforcement can't really do anything if they don't see it happen, and even if they do, there is not much they can do about it besides stop it when it happens.  That won't stop it from happening again though

lordbelial669 : So you want to answer violence with violence and not find creative ways to help curb bullying.  If bullies are bullies because their parents beat them and pick on them, how in the world is beating them as a punishment going to work?

Why not reward people for working together, being successful together, or learning about each other without conflict?

Why should anyone turn around and say, "Wow, I can't wait to see Youtube vidoes of bullies getting knocked the **** out!"

That's just continuing the problem.

I don't really think and feel it will make them to learn their lesson in a way. Bullies will carry on doing what they do. Unless someone who cares about their well being talk them down into saying what they actions do. And making them to change into a better person. Fining bullies is not the way to go it won't stop them. '-'

I don't imagine it making a huge difference.

Bullies aren't really bound to change at all, unless they get into trouble or you have someone try to tell them what their wrong doing is.

50 Bucks for bullying might be a little bit of help, but I don't think It'll make a big difference in terms of it .

Unless getting 50 bucks fine'd bothers the parents to the point were they punish their children for doing so, but I'd seriously doubt that would be the case because of how parents treat their children these days.

Ghostbear1111 :   I didn't mean that to sound like that.  Violence is not the answer of course.  They didn't have to go on the show, but it did give them a chance to win money.  Understanding why people do what they do, and why, is a first step to stopping it.  Once you are a bully, I really doubt that will change in them. "A leopard can not change it's spots" so the saying goes.  I wish there was a solution to the problem, because it is a HUGE problem for so many people these days

Forget fining them. If the little turd is a bully, chain him up,and let his victim administer justice. Bullies are cowards that pick on the weak,so let us turn the tables on the bullies and take away his "strength" by having him restrained and let his victims show how much they dislike it. Besides,I can see the fining being not effective due to lack of proof, lying, and other factors.

Oh I was only jealous of them how awesome they were. I would like to personally apologise to every single bully I ever had for being such a little turd.  I mean, I was smaller and weaker than them? I was basically asking for it? Am I right?

I think it will not change much.

DO not get me wrong: I know how bullying can affect someone - I was bullied pretty consistently during K-11. However, considering how teachers were powerless to stop it, I do not see how a fine will change anything.

SuperCrash64 : Exactly. Unless the parents of the bully actually DO something to stop their child's behavior, nothing will change. If suspensions and expelling him does not change anything, a fine will not do either.

I can see why they are doing this as a way to spread awareness and stop bullying. However, I do not feel that parents should be the ones having to pay the fine for that. I feel that some parents have it rough trying to raise a big family and struggle with the economy. But, I can understand how that will make parents more aware of their kids actions and have more strict discipline at home to stop the bullying from the source. As with anything, time will tell how effective this is.

Vanelan : Have there been studies showing the efficiency (or not) of community service? First, volunteer work should be just that: voluntary. Forcing people to do it, while it may indeed be a form of punishment, looks like a rather inefficient way to do it.

I guess it really depends how much you value your time. Forcing someone to spend a few Saturdays helping people might deter someone from bullying in the future.

They'd probably just pay with the money they bullied out of people...

It probably wouldn't work unless there was a teacher with every student 24/7. There is SO much bullying in schools that teachers don't see.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
