 This confuses me though, why is Square asking this? They don't own Persona nor SMT, so I really don't understand this.

Persona has gotten really popular lately, I think. I mean, before last year or so, I never even heard of the game, and now I see a lot of people heralding it. I think they just want to see how they're doing in comparison to another popular franchise and that's it. Since Persona has been booming, I think it makes a lot of sense.

Why not compare yourself to others who have achieved success and get opinions?

As was said, it's probably just a matter of them wanting to make a comparison with another big JRPG game and wanting to get opinions on aspects people might prefer in Persona 5 hence why the survey would ask on specifics if you vote for it. So that they can learn from Persona 5 when it comes to future Final Fantasy games, basically what they can improve and I think them making the effort to do so is always a nice thing to see. I just hope that their idea of learning from that game wouldn't mean just straight up trying to copy aspects of them, while I like both franchises I don't want them to end up becoming nearly identical.

As for which game I'd prefer? Well I would probably go with Persona 5, the boyband-ish cast of Final Fantasy XV is still something I dislike and just makes me have a hard time taking the story as seriously which likely won't be a good thing since the game is supposed to be more dark than previous Final Fantasy games. But as the games haven't been released it remains to be seen of course, I might end up vastly preferring Final Fantasy XV.

Zlinqx : Honestly, I have high hopes for XV after the demo,   I know a lot of people didn't like XIII or it's sequels, but I personally did. The only FFs I can say I dislike are II and III honestly. Though, I'm with you, I'm slightly more excited for P5. The characters look great.

That's absolutely hilarious! Personally, I think I may get both games at some point, but I'll probably prefer Persona 5. Final Fantasy XV, I don't know, the battle's just don't look that impressive. I have a feeling Square Enix will botch this game up, and it'll be the most disappointing game of 2015.

It says right in the article...
"Persona 5 is set to release in Japan sometime next summer, with a North American release date more vaguely settled as sometime in 2016. Square Enix would likely want to avoid that window if they saw Persona 5 as competition."

Sounds like it makes sense...

Squeenix considers Persona 5 to be a rival for the latest entry in their flagship series. SMT is one of the most popular RPG series in Japan and SE doesn't want to lose shares of sales to competition.

I like both of the Persona series and the Final Fantasy series. They have different settings and different character designs, so it's kind of hard for me to compare the two. 


I think I'll have to go with Final Fantasy XV since I've been playing Final Fantasy a little bit longer than Persona. I have more memories of playing Final Fantasy with friends and family and I've been excited about XV for a while now. I'm excited for Persona 5, but I think I'm more excited for XV because of all the memories I have playing the rest of the Final Fantasy series

To me it looks like what movies so when they ask for feedback around other movies so they can use that to better time their releases so other games don't interfere with them too much. You don't see two blockbuster movies coming out the same weekend because they research which movie would do better and then change the dates based on that, so I feel that's what this is form

I personally would go with persona 5.

I'd go with Final Fantasy... Though as some people pointed out this is Squenix we are talking about.... the company that felt tomb raider was a failure even though it sold 3,400,000 copies in 3-4 weeks... There clearly more focused on getting a "clean" release out where they don't have to face such competition.... especially from another JRPG... 

I've never understood what people like about FF13 I really cannot see anything that's good about that game at all. It honestly reminds me of FFX but without a story... and without anything like blitzball and such.... Especially when the main personality of the main character is that she lacks character

but considering i don't own a device that can play either of these.. well.. yeah fun times i guess
