I'm a Christian and I have Autism. I think it is wrong for preachers to say your not right with God or you are demon possessed. Autism is not a demon its a neurological condition.

As I stated I am a Christian. I excepted Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior at the age of 11. I believe I have a relationship with God through Jesus. While I'm not perfect I try to serve the Lord with all my heart. Each time I hear a preacher say oh your being punished for past sins or the sins of your parents. I tell them what about John Chapter 9. In that Chapter Jesus comes across a young man who cannot see. His disciples and the people asked Jesus who sinned. Did this man do something wrong or his parents. Jesus responds this man is not blind because of his sins or what his parents did. This man's condition will glorify God. Jesus heals the man, and the man becomes a believer in Jesus. The Pharisees ask the man and still tell him he was stepped at sin at birth. The young man tells them about Jesus and demonstrates his faith. Jesus then tells the Pharisees that they are spiritually blind and are sinning by not believing in Him.

Now to me that demonstrates hope, compassion, and shows that those with conditions are not being punished. Some preachers get the idea that when a person gets a disease they are being punished. They point to the stories of the Old Testament were God inflicted diseases on people. But you have to look at the big picture. God gave the people in the Old Testament several times to repent and turn from their wicked ways. He gave them chance after chance after chance, and they still would not repent. So God sent plagues to get the people's attention. In Revelation, it talks about diseases breaking out in the last days because mankind had gotten so wicked. In Revelation it talks about how God will judge the World for its wickedness. We see a lot of evil in that book. The New World Order, the mark of the beast, and all kinds of wickedness. Yet the people refuse to repent.

The problem is its not really man's place to say oh this is punishment by God. Only God knows if what is punishment and what is not. I believe things just happen such as developing a disease or getting hit with a natural disaster. But going back to chapter 9 shows that God loves us and he is about compassion and repentance. He also became a man (the Son) to die for our sins and rise again.

I also blame Autism Speaks for stirring up the idea Autism is a demon. About 3 years ago Autism Speaks ran an add seen on TV and heard on Radios. The add states I can make your child full of rage, I can make your child non social, I can make your child into a monster or demon. My name is Autism. Please support Autism Speaks. After that It did not take long from some even religious leaders to say Autism is demon possession.

So to sum it up as an Autistic Christian. I do not believe I'm demon possessed. I have accepted Jesus as my savior and I try to serve him so I cannot be possessed. I find preachers who say my population is possessed hurtful and quite offensive.
