When I heard the news I was (unfortunately) not suprised. Like too many singers before him he dealt with very heavy drug addiction problems. Why are people self-destroying themselves like that ?

I do listen to a lot of Stone Temple Pilots, and when I heard about Scott Weiland unexpectedly passing away, I was shocked. But like Janus said, some of the singers have some kind of drug addiction and it ends up killing their bodies and Scott was sadly no exception to this, died at a very young age.

Scott, you sir will be missed in the rock world.

Oh my god, how did I not hear about this?! I have been way too busy.

Scott Weiland was a great musician, and a great man from what I have heard.

Funny, I was actually binge listing to some old STP just the other day.
I know he got clean for a bit there, but fell right back in.

Honestly though, he made it further than most people who live the same lifestyle. At least there is that!

I wasn't old enough in the 90's to be aware of the music scene too much.  I remember the first time I heard STP though.  It was Vaseline, and I saw the video on fuse.  I immediately fell in love with the song and video, and went straight to my dad's cd collection and found Purple.  I burned a copy of it, and listened to it a lot.  It's one of my favorite albums now.

Having Grown up in the 90's I became a big fan of STP and Stott's after seeing the video for "Plush" on MTV in the fall of 92. I was instantly hooked on the song, then rushed out and purchased "Core" - Probably my favorite album of theirs.

My interest in STP kinda waned after Purple was released (another great album of theirs) but I did follow Scott and his great work with Velvet Revolver. That still doesn't take away from the 2 great albums they had and the impact that Scotts voice and songwriting had at that point of my life. Still great songs to listen to even after all these years.

I was super saddened to hear the news of his death, but most of his fans weren't really surprised due to his struggles with addiction in his life, though he had been trying to turn things around with mixed results. It's sad when I think that SEVERAL of my favorite musicians/singers growing up are dead, and several of them due to drugs.

Kurt Cobain

Adam Yauch

Dee Dee Ramone

Layne Staley

Scott Weiland

Bradley Nowell

Ol' Dirty B*(censored)

and these are just the very most famous. There are several lesser known artists that I really enjoyed that have passed in the past 20 or so years, all way too young. RIP.

This is sad I didn't listen to many of scotts songs but at least some of them. Its as janus said its really bad when drug addiction comes to play because it kills you later along the line in the future...
