Hi guys this is my first thread here. There is a question I have been wanting to ask. Do you like today's final fantasy games more than the old school ones? If so why. To me I would rather play the old ones because it wasn't so complex to play at the time. For the new ones I just didn't bother because they are on consoles I can't buy. But I can watch them on youtube to see what I think of it. What are your views on this topic old school or modern?

edit sorry for messing up the title I forgot to edit it >.<

I definitely prefer the old Final Fantasy games over the new ones. The old Final Fantasy's are some of the greatest JRPG's you'll find (with the exception of II, that one's terrible). As far as new ones go, I haven't played the newer mainstream games, but I've played some more recent spinoffs, and they aren't great by any means.

I dislike newer games from nearly every genre for basically the same reason - graphics are too focused on. Sure, the game looks good but you forgot to include a story or the gameplay mechanics don't work properly or something else like that. Older games had their quirks obviously but I feel like more effort was put into the story or the gameplay because the graphics were so limited.

Final Fantasy is the same for me. VII was probably the last game that I felt really good about playing. The older NES and SNES games were fun but since VII I don't really enjoy them.

I'll be honest: I'm in the minority.  I enjoyed my experience with Final Fantasy VI, but I despised VII and VIII somewhat.  I found FF XIII a breath of fresh air.  Sure, the battle system wasn't perfect, and the game might be considered too "cinematic", but there was something about it that drew me in.  I still haven't beaten it, but I've gotten farther in that game than in any other Final Fantasy game.  I really need to beat it sometime so I can move onto XIII-2.

gamerforlifeforever2 : That easily explains another reason why I stick to the original. Thank you for saying that gamer.

geeogree : Oh wow! Hi again geeo! I completely understand what you mean by that. I feel if you make a game it shouldn't always be about the graphics but have an epic storyline and soundtrack as well. If that works together as a whole then things would be better. But no...the people who make the games always focus on the graphics more than the soundtracks, and storyline as well. It makes me to think nowadays about it to think do they really care anymore on how they make games?

supernerd117 : Everyone has their opinion's. Not all may stay with the original, and would want to find something else to experience within new final fantasy games.

I don't like to be cliche here, but "there's no school like the old school." My favorite Final Fantasy game will always be the first one for the NES because, like you said Enii, it was very simple and easy to follow...not too complex. I've seen plenty of videos on YouTube and elsewhere of the newer Final Fantasy games and there's just too much going on to try and keep up with it, in my opinion. So I just stick to playing the old school ones on here, and I'll forever be happy with it

Eniitan : to be fair, final fantasy games always have great music. If there is something Final Fantasy does better than any other game it is the music.

However, the later Final Fantasy games suffer from bad or incomplete storylines just like other genre's. I'm okay with the simple storylines that early NES and SNES RPG's had. Earth (or other planet) needs a hero.... villain is doing something bad to the earth. Hero, and friends, save the day. For some reason the stories in later Final Fantasy try too hard or something. It's hard to explain why they don't work as well (for me).

MattyIce : Thanks for posting here uncle as I said with gamer I agree.

geeogree : You are right on that, that's the one thing final fantasy has always the best music no matter how poor the storyline of a new final fantasy game is. Thanks for reminding me I forgot about that. '-'
And for the stories yeah...I can relate to that. I see them some just don't make sense....if only that can actually sit down and think it through. That's my opinion on that.

I personally prefer the older games, after all, I feel VI is the best game in the series. However, I also like the newer games as well. I love XII, and I'm in the minority that likes XIII. The demo of XV was also absolutely amazing, and I cannot wait to play the full game.

Does Final Fantasy X count as a modern game? If so it was still pretty good!

But otherwise, after playing FF 1 through 10, I have to say that the 16-bit era was the best one. Even today FF IV and VI are still in my top 4 FF of all time. The characters felt closer, the music was excellent and the story was pretty decent.

Juilaisme123: I can understand how you feel to do with that I mean. Its ok for people to like newer games of final fantasy. There is no harm in doing that. Because that stretches out by venturing to see what the newer final fantasy game has to offer in many ways...I would try myself but as I said I don't have the consoles I need to experiment by doing that sadly. Its always good to treasure the old games, but still look forward in a way to see what new final fantasy games bring to you.

janus : I totally agree with you! Hence why I liked your post for that reason lol. It had to be the best era I mean....the music tells it all....there are others but many are picky with what they like and stuff. ^-^

I would have to say that one through eight were all good, even two was interesting in it's own way.  Six and eight are a tie for me for my favorite Final Fantasy game.  The new ones seem to just focus on making it look more realistic, and in doing so, they lose something for me.  Maybe imagination or something like that.  I will always be a fan though, and have played up to Final Fantasy thirteen.  I have never played either of the on line ones though.  I have Warcraft for that...lol

I don't like the new 3D Final Fantasy games past Final Fantasy 8, they just seem like anime to me after that. I really loved Final Fantasy 1, 4, and 6, although Final Fantasy 15 is looking amazing, and I think it might surpass the classic games in my eyes.

lordbelial669 : Yeah I can see that, 6 and 8 gave off something different in a way for some people. And as for the newer versions that's the reason why I don't play them anymore. The only new one I have played ins final fantasy 13 and nothing beyond it.

tyranit : I don't blame you some people or most people don't. That's why everyone has their fav final fantasy.

Well, I'd have to say somewhere in the middle. The PS1 titles were always my favorite, which kind of fit in the middle. I guess it's considered retro now, but considering Final Fantasy's lifespan, it's reasonably close to the mid-section. Other than 10 and 13 (14 was pretty good as well), I'd definitely have to go with older titles. For some reason, the years of '94 - '00 were when Square was in it's prime, in my opinion.

Mynamescox44 : I see thank you for stating that everyone has their opinions to do with this, and which era they like more. Either the old one, new one or around in the middle part. For me it would be the ps1 and the ps2 days.
