I originally viewed TdV as a fun activity for other users to enjoy and compete in. But as time went on, I gradually started to lose interest and eventually started to dread its arrival. Aside from most of the active staff members, perhaps it was after seeing that no one else really had any chance of winning is where I really gave up on it. This is only my opinion, though.

Non-staff can have a very good chance at winning too. SkilledTree has flown through the top 10, and if he had joined the competition this seriously from day one, gamer wouldn't be enjoying his rainbow name.

I do sometimes feel it is a fun competition, but probably because I can't keep up with the majority of active members around I just hide myself as an spectator. I don't dread it's arrival yet, but probably will if I see myself overloaded with the forums I mod.

I have to say that, as long as people respects the rules, it's a fun competition, but loses interest as members keep finding weak spots in the rulebook. Discussions about handing DQs, new rules being implemented from one season to the following or even in the midst of the competition... At least we have to deal with very little spam nowadays, so the TdV is slowly solidifying itself.

I like competition and a chance to test my mettle against peers. I don't spam and my points are legit. I really get very little benefit from my staff role in it other than experience. I've assigned about 90 screen shots but I used to get that before I was staff anyways. Not really much into the dq monitoring thing though. If I see someone bending the rules to their advantage, I just feel dumb for not having thought of it first. lol.

Except for the green jersey, anyone can win a jersey in this competition, staff or not. Sure, staff and mods have a better chance at winning since they can do more actions towards a red jersey, but I believe it is pretty fair.

However, for people like me who can not "intelligently" post in about 1/4 of the forums, it gets tough after a few days since one runs out of things to say.

The TDV means a lot to me because back when I first joined I probably wouldn't have stayed for more than a week if it hadn't been for the TDV because that was what got me interested in the place. I came here to play games and I soon gave up on that and started posting because of finding out about the TDV less than a week after joining.

EX Palen : That's true. skilledtree has been putting up a good recently, but as far as I'm concerned, he's the only non-Staff member whose up there. Was it also like this for last month's TdV? With only the staff taking all the banners? No offensive towards any of the staff. Just saying.

Ferdinand : I always assume being a staff came with many benefits like posting in thread that are only exclusive to them. After hearing what you said, I feel a little assured.

janus : So basically, what you're implying is that you can't saying any thing unintelligent in certain threads? May I ask which ones are they? Just out of curiosity. perhaps staff have too much of a chance to win. I mean, for some users like me trying to win once the staff has gained momentum, It seems nigh impossible to obtain even a single jersey.

zanderlex : TdV was also your reason for staying on vizzed for more than one week? What a coincidence. It was mine, too. Now it seems to be my reason to want to leave...

The TDV means quite a bit to me. It's the time of the year where I put up the most posts, the most cp actions, and most words anytime of the year. Earning jerseys and seeing my name with this rainbow banner keeps me motivated to keep going.

This year has been dominated by staff in all seasons. However, in past editions, many non-staff members were able to hold their own and even win the competition.

And about the benefits of staff, we do have eclusive threads and forums, but due to the low percentage of users that have access to them it almost makes no difference. Some of them have less posts overall than Corrupt A Wish, and the ones that have more will surely be surpassed soon. That really gives a hint of how active those forums are.

What does it mean to me?

It means avoiding most threads like the plague, and sticking just to Innocent Town.

I really am not a fan of the TDV, even though I won one a few years ago.

Final Weapon : I know nothing about Pokémon, my TV, music and movie knowledge is limited (I can not even remember the last time I went to a theater. There is also a cultural difference since I am from Quebec) and I mostly played RPGs, barring me from most threads about other kinds of games.

Now yes, staff *may* have an advantage since we can do more actions that will give us Contribution Points. However the yellow and blue jerseys, if you have a lot to say, are easily accessible.

EX Palen : the only real advantage for the staff forum is for green points. It is not like we can say *that* much in those forums to get on a posting spree.

I am new to the Vizzed board, and recently discovered what Tour de Vizzed is. I feel pretty neutral about this because I don't know much about it other than its gameplay and rules, but I appreciate this community game/event bringing more activity across the site. There's also more thoughts and ideas being written, making it easier for newbies like me to respond.

This is probably going to seem hypocritical with me winning the last TdV and kind of an odd opinion to have when you're a local. But in general I do not like TdV. I think it's a fun concept with a competition that deals with most aspects of the site aside from the RGR, but at least when I've been active seems to do more bad than good.

I feel it brings a lot of spam with it, and the overall quality of posts, reviews, screenshots etc. generally go down. People don't post because they're actually interested in the topic but just so their post count goes up and score higher, that goes for the other jerseys as well. These are things that I found even more easily noticable after I competed myself.

To add to that as of the past few TdVs it seems to be basically just the same few active staff members competing with a single exception or two which seems to defeat the purpose of it all. Because of that there's not really much point to the competition aspect as well to me anymore. Granted while I feel this aspect has been improved on, staff+ still have big advantages namely when it comes to the red and green jerseys compared to anyone else wanting to compete.

Zlinqx : I disagree with the spam aspect (at least in the forums I visit; I never go to many for lack of having anything to say). Even in the review forum, notwithstanding newbies who barely meet the word requirements, the posts are usually of high quality; I give an average score of 3.7

In fact, now that things have dramatically slowed down I have to say I miss the activity. It gives more life to the forums

The TdV means nothing. All i get is a load of notifications of replies to old threads and in my mind im thinking of a bunch of try hards bumping old threads to win a jersey for a day. Not talking about anyone specific.

Well I see two ways.

One, It's mean't to be a fun competition,Where users are encouraged to post, but at the same time it also causes problems for the moderators, as members constantly look for exploits within the rule system.

People you don't know reply to your threads.
Peoples post count increase, yet the overall quality of post is lower due to them trying to get something towards a blue jersey.

I personally hate the Tour De vizzed as its some of the most spammest and annoying stuff I've ever had to deal with.
I just came back a while ago, and saw one of my 2013 reviews got bumped.

2 years ago, that review was made.

It really feels as if TDV should encourage quality over quanity, because most of the replies to the threads I've made when the tour de vizzed, are either really short, irrevalant, or almost just purely for the sake of post count.

It also makes being a moderator a more questionable job at this rate, having to close down a bunch of threads and being constantly alert for spammy post has to be irrtating.

Final Weapon :
That's not true, Barathemos has won quite a few TDVS and jerseys, same with IN008 back in 2013.
It's just most of the good posting members like those two have been caught up in the affairs of life, and can't really do much.
Yes Bara's staff now, but he's not as post crazy as I remembered him way back in 2013.
That's why some of the Staff are so "Domniant" In these compeitions, is because really nobodys giving them a run for their money due to lack of time. Staff membership is purely required to be active, same with being a local+

Zlinqx :
You sir, just yes, yes, yes to all of that right there. Even back in 2013 I had to deal with annoyance like that.

janus : The activity you're talking about is mainly brought by you and some other long standing active staff members not any actual new members, which I think is the kind of activity most people want to see and at least from my view makes the current activity seem artificial. Post quality can be largely subjective but at least from my view it seems like most posts during the TdV seem to be short with not much thought put into them. Taking review replies for example it often seems to be replying with the same advice on every review. People don't even bother to proof read their responses a lot of the time.

The TdV as it stands encourages quantity over quality. While it's intended to bring traffic to the site I think it if anything ends up having the opposite effect with more members being detered from posting and being part of the community.

Zlinqx : Oh, no doubt that there are short, "spammy" posts - I make some myself in the crazy house to boost my chances to get a blue jersey. However, I would say that overall the quality of posts does not change significantly. I think I might even be more mindful of the quality during Tour de Vizzed in order to earn more points.

As for the reviews: it might indeed be repetitive, but learning reviewers usually make the same mistake - too short, confused structure, "too" minded on the reviewed game, etc. I never copy and paste such posts since each of them is unique.

SuperCrash64 : yeah, that can be a problem. I now try not to reply to them when I noticed the "age" of the original thread.

I honestly feel like what the TdV is SUPPOSED TO mean, and what it actually is these days are two different things.

It's supposed to be a month where we give rewards out to those that are helping out the site and keeping it active the most.

The issue here is that lately, many people are using long drawn out posts and crazy back and fourth sandwich posting and other ways to skirt the rules than what the competition is actually intended for. Sometimes it can be fun, but most of the time it's a headache for the mods. I think there are better ways to encourage activity from the members personally.

To me, the TDV is a mess that should be avoided at all costs. I always go nearly inactive during TDV months, for good reason. The board is flooded with useless and crappy posts made for the sake of posting, and nearly no new threads are made that are relevant in any way. A month when you can be criticized for not posting within the rules, even if you aren't competing. A month when the forum games are all shut down because competitors can't control themselves.

In other words, it sucks.
