Less than two weeks ago, an 87 year old woman from Brooklyn received a letter from the Bureau of Fraud Investigation. The letter said that all of her medical benefits had been terminated and the reason listed in the letter was that she was dead.

At first she thought it was a joke, but the truth was simple. She was legally dead. She went to the Medicaid office to find it was a computer error, but there was nothing they could do, she would have to apply for a new State ID to prove she was alive, which would probably be just as hard being dead and all.

Thanks to the media though, enough people found out she was alive so that they were able to take care of the issue by now and reinstate everything that was lost.

zanderlex :

That's actually pretty funny (now that it's fixed). Like, how do you just tell someone they're dead. Like, they walk into your office and you're like "Please, take a seat ma'am. We have sad news to tell you." Then she replies "Well, what?" Then he finishes strong with "Well, you see, you're dead. I'm literally talking to a ghost right now. You don't exist as a living person. So please leave my office, zombie."

Like, I'm just so confused how this can even happen. So, if a computer glitches, you're just kind of dead. Your living, breathing body is not proof of otherwise - the computer knows all!

Skilledtree : Apparently they sent her that letter two months after she was declared dead. They only stopped her benefits because they saw that someone was using them for two months even though they thought she was dead so I guess they figured someone in her family or someone else had hacked into her identity to take the monies for themselves.

This reminds me of that one iCarly episode.

That sucks to hear people thought she was dead. Did she feel dead on the inside once she got that letter?

GamingN00B : iCarly episode?

She probably did, it must have make her feel that she's only actual death so she must have gotten depressed.
