Doesn't always happen to me, but sometimes. Sometimes, I'd read things over and over again and still not understand and be able to summarize and make a margin note of what that paragraph is about. I get frustrated and bored when this happens.

I think it matters that I DO have a documented learning disability, my college knows about it & I get double time on exams and quizzes. Help? Tips? Anything?

There is a good book out there that is simply called "How to Read a Book" It may sound simple, but it's actually made for discussing how to read intellectually. It is made to be helpful for college students.

If you need help right when you are taking a test or something, the best thing I could suggest is breaking each paragraph apart one sentence at a time. Don't try to read the thing and then try to summarize, take a little note after each sentence or two and then once you are some reading the entire thing, you should have a good amount of notes to work with.

xxeliza321xx : I'm going through a similar situation right now.  I'm in a non-school class online that will help me pass a test in order to skip a class.  But sometimes, I read and read and all I get is a whole lotta nothing, it seems.  I found out today that walking outside can help give inspiration, especially a walk with someone else who you can talk to.  I'm still "behind", but I hope today will lead to more breakthroughs in time.

Another note: I tried watching funny videos.  While they helped at first, they've become a "stumbling block", or in other words, a hindrance to my progress right now, at least, to an extent.  If you ever feel down and out because of this problem, I highly recommend checking out Studio C on Youtube.  They help brighten my day whenever I feel down.

It all depends on the subject, really. Even today I still have a hard time making sense of calculus because I can not see its practical application in life, ESPECIALLY in economics, the science of human choice.

But since you have learning disability... I guess the only thing I can say is do not give up and persevere. There seems to be quite a few Hollywood actors that are (or were) dyslexic.

For the rest of you, here's a good example of what I mean (reading I tried to plow through recently for one of my classes but didn't get much out of at all):

May need to copy and paste the URL. When it asks you to sign up, just click the x; you should still be able to see the files.

xxeliza321xx : No sarcasm. This book was actually introduced to me from my history professor in college. And he literally told us that it is highly recommended to read and that it would help reading any book.
