Apparently people dislike things enough to want to dislike them even more, which is why Facebook is finally creating a dislike button. However, the button isn't really geared the way you think it is, it's more like a dislike of the situation, instead of what was said or who said it. Like you can dislike something that was sad because, well, it's sad.

I don't think people are going to use the dislike button that way. Dislike doesn't mean sadness, or empathy. It's just a negative rating that expresses "I dislike this post." Maybe they should take notes from the way every other site handles dislikes.

I heard about this a little while back. I'm kinda surprised that it took facebook this long to add something like that. I mean, look at vizzed, we have a dislike button, but the biggest social networking site doesn't?

Well, the dislike button here works a different way then the Facebook Dislike button works, that's to talk about something like an event that was posted. The dislike is for the event itself, not for the post.

Like if someone on Facebook posted saying that someone they knew passed away, that's what the dislike button would be for, to dislike the situation because you obviously wouldn't really want to like it, would you?

I guess it'll be a welcome change. I always found it mildly disturbing when I see a passing away post, and it's got a bunch of "likes" on it. Like, it just doesn't seem to make sense. No one likes when someone passes away, or the like.

So, the dislike button will be able to accurately simulate the "I feel your pain" side of the "like" button. It'll just make sense - as long as it isn't abused.

Now, it's the internet, and what can be abused will be abused. The point is, for the mature audience of Facebook, I can see the dislike button really help someone to express empathy or sympathy or whatever the situation calls for.

So yeah, I like it.

Skilledtree : More than likely, it will be abused, there are a ton of trolls out there on the internet and jerks as well, and they will probably take advantage of the button to make others feel bad. If most people use it the way it is meant to be, then it can be a great thing.

Omg this is sooo dumb! People will only abuse it... if they don't like the post at all they will just be a jerk and dislike it. This is not so good... :/  I would rather not have my post disliked unless it was something negative that happened... -shrugs- ... that's why there is a like button.. if you like it then you can press like and if you don't like it then you don't press like... it's simple. I can see where they are saying that if you didn't like the situation that happened or event in which that person posted you could press dislike to show compassion but still it won't be used that way more than 90% of the time ... Just saying.

Smh.

Glad I don't go on facebook that much.  I mean it's dumb to have it.  My rule would be if you don't like something then don't rate it. Don't go abusing a click of a button to express your emotions.

NovemberJoy :

gamerforlifeforever2 : I get where ya'll are coming from, but this is the internet I can potetinally see alot of abuse going towards this thing..

As a wise man once said"This is why we can't have nice things"
Nuff said lol.

SuperCrash64 : You're probably right about the abuse part. I was just pointing out that I found it surprising that the button wasn't implemented sooner that's all.

I'm looking forward to this. It is going to be the end of Facebook. People are going to flip out on each other when the dislikes start getting handed out. It's going to be great.

I honestly think this is going to make a lot of people stop using Facebook and I'm okay with that. Too many people on any one site is not a good thing. I'm so happy this is happening

geeogree : So. Many. Posts.

I never thought that would happen, but yeah, it just takes a few jerks to make one person rage quit the site, and with over a billion users, I'm sure there's more than enough jerks to wipe out a good number of members.

Especially when you start factoring in the groups and celebrity pages. Those places are going to be flame wars.

I really hope that, like Vizzed, you don't see who disliked your post. If you can see the dislikes it will be a nightmare of a feature to deal with.

geeogree : Well, with a place like Facebook, they only suffer if people leave. If someone's stupid enough to flame and spend all that extra time going back and forth on the site, FB wouldn't lose any money, its once the users stop flaming and just leave when FB gets doomed.

zanderlex : yeah and that's what I expect is going to happen. You'll have a bunch of people get caught up in random flame wars and what not and in a few months time start leaving. Once you get enough people leaving for that reason you'll have others leaving because people they know are no longer on the site. The dislike button could become the death spiral that kills facebook. I doubt facebook will ever completely die but it will probably end up being like MySpace where certain groups stick around but the average person moves on to the next thing.

Yes it would start a ton of flaming/wars but if they made it so you could view who disliked it.. there would probably be way less people disliking something just because of that in my opinion.

I agree with what geeo said. In my opinion, I don't think it would be a good idea to see who disliked your post. People would be going back and forth with each other for who knows how long. Although I really hope it doesn't ultimately spell the end of Facebook, since being on Facebook is part of my everyday job. Boss man always tells me to make sure to reach out to as many people as you can via social media.

In fact now that I'm thinking about it, the dislike button shouldn't even exist. Facebook is doing fine just the way it is. I'd obviously hate to lose any business whatsoever if my customers stopped using it altogether :/

MattyIce : Well what if FB does end up using a system like vizzed where you can't see who dislikes your post? Like what vizzed and YouTube both do and only show how many people dislikes it? For now, the story is that FB will show who dislikes it, but I'm sure if it gets to be too much of a hassle and they feel it could hurt the site, I'm sure they would opt to change the system to make it less dangerous on their part.

Bintsy : but wouldn't that actually cause the problems I said it would? You'd have tons of people unfriending each other and getting pissed off at each other. At least not being able to see who disliked your posts means that people can do it without ruining friendships.

Not that opinions on facebook should end friendships but it will.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
