I didn't know much about this game until a person streamed it. Sure it was scary. For me at least. But, then the game play didn't looked to be interesting as people who like the game claimed it to be. From then I just found the game very boring. There is nothing in the game that screams amazing to me not one whatsoever. '-'

I used to love Fnaf a lot, and make tons of threadies almost everyday. Now, I'm only interested in story theories and such. I no longer like the
games themselves. They're boring, and Fnaf is shovelware.

And, yes, I do think Fnaf is overrated.

I can sort of see why people might enjoy the games. But I personally don't enjoy them. Really, a good horror game doesn't have to rely mostly on jumpscares to be horrific. For example, there's Alien: Isolation, which works very well at scaring you. I tend to be difficult to scare, and it still unsettled me. That is the kind of horror game that should have a cult following. Not FNAF.

Of course, there's also the fanbase. In the short time they've been around, they've managed to become one of the most infamous fandoms on the internet for being extremely strange and extremely thin-skinned. I've seen people cuss out others just for not liking FNAF, and you wouldn't believe just how much weird stuff there is out there about FNAF if I told you.

I wouldn't call it 'overrated', I just don't get the hype. At all. All four games so far have been released in the timespan of a year, and in all the four games you basically do the same thing, each time with a small different gameplay element thrown to spice things up. Call of Duty, eat your heart out. I heard from fans that it's supposed to be the lore around it what makes it so appealing. Which is why it's not my thing.

Aside from the first one, at least. When it came out, I was quite impressed by it, because I thought it was quite scary. The player is unable to defend themself against those murderous robots. You're really sort of helpless. Besides that, instead of avoiding them, you actually have to LOOK for them, in order to make it through the night. It forces the player to do something that they might not be comfortable with doing. It's at least very unnerving. So, when it came out, the first one was REALLY good. But then the sequels came out and ruined it completely. I'm a more task-oriented player, so I don't really care much for story at all.

I think so. All the mysteries been solved, except the fact who the purple man really is. I'm starting to get sick and tired of people talking about it. It was fun, don't get me wrong, but it needs to stop. Things are going out of hand with this series. 

In short, yes, I think Five Nights At Freddy's is over rated.

The reasoning being multiple things.

The game is basically nothing more than a point and click jump scare with mediocre graphics and a very questionable story that is apparently so good, it's worth starting a fan war about. They pumped like four of these games in like a year, which is insane and sort of an obvious cash cow being taken advantage of.

I truly believe this game only received so much hype and attention because YouTubers like Markiplier played the game and overreacted enough to make people think that this was the hardest, scariest game of all time. It really isn't either of those, and I don't understand how people can honestly stand there and say that the game is scary. Play any Silent Hill, and I'm sure you'll easily recognize what a true horror game with great story looks like.

Another thing is, the fans of the series are insane over the game. If you bad talk the game in any way, they attack like a swarm of wasps. Yet, if someone criticizes a game like Call of Duty, Destiny, or really any other AAA game, it's totally acceptable.

I guess I just don't understand the craze over the game. Like, it's barely fun (I played the first one on my phone, didn't like it), it's barely scary, the story is all hidden to the point that you might as well just youtube it. I don't know, I don't get it.

I guess it can be summed up with: The game is way over rated and over hyped, too.

Yes, this franchise is very overrated. I tried it once during a sleepover at my friend's house. She told us it was very scary and due to it being like 3 AM we were all quite unnerved. That was until we played the game. Ironically enough she was the only one who got scared by the silly jump scares.

I admit that we all didn't get any sleep that night but I blame that on the fact that we played it so late at night.

Kyana : Yeah haha, well if you play any game that's remotely scary at night, that tends to happen. Like, if you even played a game like the first Bioshock that might happen, just because there's a few scenes that could be considered scary.

I know what you're talking about though. My sister is the one who introduced me to the game, and she told me it was pretty scary. When watching and playing, she was the only one who would jump and there was three of us. I don't get what all the fuss is about haha.

Like a lot of my friends and a few acquaintances of mine, I consider FNAF overrated without any hesitation. The screams that you hear when you get jumpscare'd drive me up a wall and I don't find the gameplay worthwhile.

I've only played it before because one of my friends forced me to play it and after the first jumpscare I got up and started to walk out of the room. Thankfully, my friend realized what he was doing to me and we moved on to doing something much more fun.

FNAF isn't scary, it's startling. There's a difference between jumpscares that are sp00ky and last awhile and jumpscares that just happen with a big face and big teeth and red eyes.

I'll never play it because it looks extremely boring in terms of gameplay and honestly kind of annoying. So yes, it's very overrated

The only thing good to come from this cancer is Five Nights At... well, I can't say the last bit It's a parody game, and a really good one at that. Pretty funny and it manages to be a legit RPG at the same time. Definitely M rated though

I'm a big baby when it comes to all horror games, so while I own the first FNAF, I've never played it all the way through. I enjoy the series (guilty of being Markiplier trash and watched him play through them all whoops) and loved the story, but I mean... it's fairly overrated. Hot Topic sells FNAF series shirts. Every trend to ever exist goes to Hot Topic to die basically, so if it's there, it's overrated imo.
