This month's High Score competition is for 'Thunder & Lightning: Easy Graphics' for the Nintendo NES. You can play it here:

The point of this competition is to get as high of a score as you can. You cannot score grind in this competition! If you spend too much time on any single level then your submission will not count.

This is actually a hack made by me with the intent of reducing the difficulty of the game by making the graphics easier on the eyes. We do a competition for 'Thunder & Lightning' every year but this is the first time we've done a competition for a hack of the game. For more information regarding this hack, go here:

VIDEO REQUIRED: You can use the RGR Plugin's built in video recording to record the gameplay or external software. Afterward, upload the video to the Vizzed YouTube account.

RULES: You MUST play the game using the RGR Plugin in 'Timetrial Mode' and take a screenshot of the ending screen by pressing F6 when you've completed the game. To play in 'Timetrial Mode', scroll down the page where it shows the Speed Runs, you'll see a link that says 'Click Here to Compete for Speed Run', click that. Once you've taken your screenshot, click the link near that one that says 'Click Here to Submit your Speed Run' to submit your speed run.

You cannot cheat or use glitches of any sort.

What do you define as spending too much time on a single level?

sonikku : I think that that was meant to be taken out. Since this is a speed run competition, that rule probably doesn't apply. But this used to be a high score competition, in which there were a couple of levels where you could stay on a single level for as long as you wanted as long as you didn't destroy all the bricks. In those levels, turtles bring more and more bricks, and you could get as high of a score as you wanted. So that rule was put in place when it was a high score competition.

Hey guys,

I'm pretty new to this site, I just joined today. I have been looking at the game page for over 15 minutes now and i see no link to do a time trail run. The only link i see is for a high score run. Am I just not seeing the link, or should i use the high score link for the competition.

rcarter2 : This actually was intended to be a high score competition, not sure how I managed to make it a speedrun competition. I went ahead and fixed that.

Davideo7 : I was going to post this in the Shenmue thread, but I have too many back and forward posts with you there so it won't let me. I ran into a new problem when trying to start the game. I finished Shenmue I last week, and was going to get as many for Shenmue II as I could over this weekend. When I got the game downloaded, it won't let me play. When I try, it gets to the Null DC screen, and a popup appears saying "Unhandled exception while initiating NullDC AICA [Jan31 2013] Plugin". Any idea what that is or if there is anything I can do on my end to fix it?

Davideo7 : In case you already saw that previous post, I think I fixed it. The sound device on my computer was malfunctioning. I couldn't get sound through my speakers or even through headphones at all for anything I wanted to listen to. Turns out that this unhandled exception was a sound file that was not being handled. I fixed my sound issue on my computer, tried the game again, and it is working great.
