So, let me ask you - are you afraid (or were you) of the Emergency Alert/Broadcasting System? Do you know anybody that's afraid of the EAS/EBS? What do you think of when you hear the Emergency Alert System? I am still sorta afraid of the Emergency Alert System, only because of the beeps and buzzers. I don't know anybody that's afraid of the Emergency Alert System, but I'm sure that I can ask someone. When I hear the Emergency Alert System, I think of the scariest things, like a nuke coming down, or a EF-5 tornado, or something like that.

I used to be afraid, but then they all started conducting drills and stuff so I just got used to it. "THIS IS JUST A DRILL. Usually when I hear the EAS my mind usually starts going to the worst case scenario, especially since the first time I had heard it I was at home alone. I also panic extremely easily.

I am used to hearing the EAS, mostly living in a place where hurricanes makes landfall at (or any other siturations), especially if it's a mandatory evacuation hurricane (like Katrina), then you hear the EAS all day at a point that it drives you crazy. Other than hurricanes, we rarely get any EAS, unless it's some kind of flood-related situation or them testing out the system.

The whole testing thing sometimes drives me crazy when I hear it I think "WE ALL ARE GOING TO DIE!!!" Until they say that it was a test and I was like "really?"

I love it when the test comes on TV late at night and wakes me up. Other than that, when I was young I would worry since I live where tornadoes occur. Now when I hear it, first I stop and think what day it is. If it's a Wednesday I go about my business since that's the day they test them here. Otherwise I may look at the sky or check a radar somewhere. If it's a nuke I don't want to know though.

No, I'm not afraid of the EAS .. I personally worry about it because there is tornado's around my area but it doesn't scare me or make me stop what I'm doing. The sound is quite annoying though.

Well, it's not necessarily from the President or Prime Minister. Local authorities, such as police, can set off these alerts (for things such as bad weather). Presidential Alerts, as they are called here, can only be activated by the President, in the case of a nuclear or country-wide emergency.

I'm not really scared of them per se. Usually they only come on when bad weather is in the area. Nowadays the alerts on my phone being so loud is what bothers me. Not so much the ones on TV or radio.

when I was about 7 or 8 they passed a law here in Canada which meant that we were going to phase out our EAS For a similar thing called NADD. and as far as i know they are Not allowed to test it(Or at least they don't where I live). Like the EAS in America It is Based on the Common alerting profile(CAS). But instead of our phones making a really loud noise we just get a text. Although the EAS is the reason that i NEVER watch tv When I go to America because that really scared me even though it was only a test. When I was young at school I was afraid. I always thought. What is happening?! Then It became a frequent thing, that by then I stopped being afraid of the drills that happened. Also it happens at my church too. @.@

When I hear it I sometime's can't help but think negative and think that something really bad is going to happen. I heard the EAS not to long ago and ran to my T.V. to hear if there actually was an emergency. There was no emergency it was just a test as usual. I've had a nightmare the night before about a natural disaster so that's why I ran to the T.V. I guess I was being a little dramatic haha.

I have a legitimate fear of the Emergency Alert system, so I'm definitely afraid of it.  I have a fear of natural disasters in general, so the EAS is my nightmare. One of them, at least.

I don't think my city even has one of those, we had hurricanes and tornados, and in order to find out about them we either need to go and watch the weather on the news or on the weather website. I've never heard any beeps or buzzers in my life for weather outside of movies, and I probably never will if I still live here.
