Last night, I had literally been introduced to gaming heaven. A couple of years ago, the main library in my city library system started carrying video games and I used to borrow a few here and there out of the maybe 10 to 20 that they had but after a while I seemed to forget about them and stopped taking them out for a while.

Last night I went with a friend from work and we decided to check out the games section and it turns out that they added so much more. We were both shocked to see that they had binder upon binder of lists of games that can be checked out for a week or so.

They actually had about 100 or more games for each system to be checked out which included many big games and in total they must have had more than 1000 games.I would prefer to buy the games so I don't have to worry about anything and can play them forever, but you can't really argue with borrowing a thousand games for free, which is literally 10 times better than Gamefly or anything and this is a golden opportunity to take out some random games that I have never tried before and give them a whirl.

Wow, that's awesome! So what kinds of games have you decided to get from that library so far and how many are you planning to try out?

Yeah that seems like it would be awesome if you ever want to try a game you've never played before or your just feeling bored suddenly and want to try a new game. Our library here does stock some video games but it's not really that many and those they do have don't really seem that interesting.

gamerforlifeforever2 : The ones I took out were probably too long ago to remember, and I might get like 50 to 100.

zanderlex : God bless free public libraries. I really think that they're the greatest thing the government has ever done. Mine doesn't have games, (yet,) but they have a good collection of DRM-free music, so that's something. I'd love to see my local library start a video game collection, I'd even donate my own games, but they just recently saw a budget cut so I doubt that it'd be a possibility.

CthulWho : My library system isn't a government thing at all actually, all 40 something libraries in the system work as a private company.

1000s of games? Rent max games, rip, return, repeat. PIRACY FOR THE WIN! XD

Its amazing to think a library, especially just one individual library, would have 1000s of games to borrow, much less more than 20.

bigger0gamer : This entire system has 40 libraries. The city probably has another 200 libraries and the state of more than like 16 million people has more than 1000 libraries yet this one library is the 2nd biggest library in the entire state so of course its going to have a lot of stuff. Just the media center for DVDs, cds, games, etc, is about the size of a high school cafeteria

CthulWho : Nope, no fee, you just get a library card and do whatever, I already have 1000 hours logged on their computers, so I'm always there.

That's always awesome! I used to have that when I lived in a different suburb a few years back. They had games for a ton of systems and even had games that had been released in the past month or so. So I was always checking out games. I think that library had a limit of 3. They had a great DVD/BluRay selection as well.

The town I live in now though doesn't have as many games for as many systems. Occasionally I check out some 3DS games, but that's about it.

zanderlex : That's awesome. I just did a search of local library databases and see that the library a few towns away has a good selection of games from the PS2 generation onward, to include handhelds. I don't have a membership with them, but they do participate in inter-library loan with each other. I wonder if that applies to video games as well as books. It'd be sweet.
