Hello everyone,

The first Final Fantasy game I ever played was Final Fantasy VII. Like many others it is recognized as one of the biggest game changing RPGs that brought people into playing the Final Fantasy Franchise. A couple years ago I purchased parts to build my computer and received a free 1 month subscription to Final Fantasy XIV: a Realm Reborn. Although it wasn’t the turn based battle that I was used to in Final Fantasy VII I still got quite a kick out of it. The only issue I had was the monthly fee. I am trying to cut down on monthly costs to save money and this was just another thing that I don’t need dragging me down. After my one month was up I stopped playing but since I have been looking to replace the game with something else.

So I am looking for a more modern version of Final Fantasy VII to play. The MMO was great but I would prefer something that doesn’t require monthly payments. What do you recommend to fulfill my addiction to the Final Fantasy Game Line?

I know they are coming out with a “remake” of Final Fantasy VII that made everyone scream like little girls at a Justin Beiber concert when they unveiled it at E3, but we should leave that out because it is basically a given.

I honestly believe that you won't find any really modern Final Fantasy games that you will really enjoy, but I have played Final Fantasy XII (12) a few times and I LOVED it. It isn't the most Modern one, its for the PS2, but it is more modern than 7.  I also really liked Final Fantsy XIII (13) which you can get on your PS3, so its more modern.

For modern ones I would suggest X (10), but the HD remake of it which I quite new. That's my personal favorite from the series and its pretty cool.

After FFX, the battle system completely changed so that it isn't turn based anymore. I believe that every Final Fantasy game past FFX was realtime except for FF13. I have to strongly recommend Final Fantasy X though. Awesome, funny story with a very unique (in a good way) method of leveling up your characters. The battle system I'd have to say is the best of all Final Fantasy games. It's turn-based but every attack has a different time value (e.g. using "Armor Break" will give you 3 turns before the enemy attacks you, while using a regular attack might give you 5 turns).

I'd recommend Final Fantasy IX even though that one has a medieval setting rather than the modern look that Final Fantasy games had been  getting. It has a great story and memorable characters. I think it's a must play.

Try Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on PS3, or FF IX on PSX! I'm my opinion they're the best of the series. Of course I love every FF game but you should try them.
Final Fantasy 9 belongs to my childhood memories, the medieval-like settings, kingdoms, steampunk technology, the irony of some characters like Steiner and Quina, the music...everthing is perfect. This is what I call some real Final Fantasy stuff.
Final Fantasy X is kinda like more...grown-up, the 9 one is a little bit cartoonish and childish sometimes!
They are my favorites. After them, the series is finished for me !

Try final fantasy type 0 for the ps4 or xbox one. It is basically final fantasy v11 and final fantasy x11 put together. Final fantasy v11 is one of my favorite games of all time and when i read the description of type 0 in the xbox store it sounded so much like v11 i had 2 buy it. If you loved v11 then you will most likely love type 0.

aww....some of my friends have already recommended some I would have lol. XD

But, really you should go for what they said, especially final fantasy 9 or 10. I would also say that you should give final fantasy 8 a try that's another good one. But the main problem is the options and stuff. Its really confusing once you don't know what you are doing. @.@

My favorite Final Fantasy is the second game... Its leveling system is close to modern games
as you have to use weapons and spells to get better with them. Its got a really dark story compared to
other FF games too which is likely why it took so long to get to the USA... There is a translated Nes rom
on here if you're a stickler for originals, or a GBA remake of FF 1 & 2 with better graphics and slightly
easier combat. On Nes if you select a monster w/ 2 or more characters and the 1st kills it, the other
characters would swing on the corpse and waste their turn so you have to be more careful. =3
Oh, FF2 was the 1st game with chocobos too I think, GBA goes into mode 7 when you mount one. ^^

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned 4 or 6 yet. I thought those were common choices for people's favorite Final Fantasy games? Final Fantasy 4 introduced the concept of Active Time Battle to the series, and was the first to be released in North America to have a storyline with actual defined characters.

Final Fantasy 6, however, has what a lot of gamers consider one of the best storylines from an RPG. It has enough action to keep any player interested, but there's room for a lot of plot in there as well. Of course, the North American release had some changes, but the main plot was totally intact. It's also one of the few games from its era to have any kind of "glitch exploration" that you could do, which is interesting. If you want to become more acquainted with the Final Fantasy series, there's a couple of good places to start.

If you're okay with goin old school, I have no choice but to recommend six! I love it, it's my personal favorite in the series, the story, characters, and music are awesome, there's a lot to do, and it introduced one of the most popular, successful villains of the franchise. Play it..... Okay, anytime now. No rush.
