Mario & Luigi: Dream Team is the most recent installment of the Mario & Luigi series. It's often overlooked in my opinion. Seeing as how everyone raves about Bowser's Inside Story, along with the original Superstar Saga (Praise for this game are as rare as praise for Partners in Time). Rightfully so, but despite the minimalistic cover, this game has earned it's place as a sequel to those fantastic games.
So, let's not dilly dally along any farther. We've got...a....review...to do...Zzzzz...

*dream portal to Dreamy Vizzed opens*

Graphics: 9/10

How can I describe these graphics. They're, well, dreamy! Most of this game is all in sprites, like the games before it. But these sprites look fantastic! Who says sprite games are irrelevant?
The scenery is pretty good. Most locations can be described as Superstar Saga on steroids. Places like Mount Pajamaja, and Driftwood Shore have visuals similar to SSS. But with new visual perks to them. Then you have a few places like Somnom Woods and the Dream World that look and feel totally new. The Dream World especially since...it is totally new.
About the Dream World; half of the game is spent in there. And it looks and feels very different to the normal world. I'll touch more in depth on it in a later segment though. But graphically, it's pretty impressive. For starters; on the bottom screen we've got a 3D Starlow and Luigi. Luigi reacts to things that happen in the dream, which is pretty cool. As for the visuals, it's a strange version of what you've already gone through in the normal world's version of each location. Sometimes you might find dream versions of people also. There are also Luigi's that run around every now and then. And sometimes you may even see a thought or two.
When you get a pile of Luiginoids (Luigi's dream clones. About 400 of them to be exact) they all do different things during each action. And the fact they are all animated is impressive.
Another thing on the Dream World. There are times when Luigi gets giant. Yes, exactly like Bowser did in BiS. When he does, you're treated to a glorious 3D modeled battle! With the 3DS Tilted though. So don't expect Luigi's nose to pop out of the screen.
The NPC's all look nice. They range from Toads and Yoshi's, to Beans and people in costume. Then we have Chippy-er Starlow looking as chipper as ever. And Dreambert, our new floating companion. As cool as he is, he's also the reason this game didn't get a perfect 10 in the graphics department. Sometimes he'll yell, and his head grows huge. And with a sprite being enlarged 200%, it looks kinda ugly. Thankfully that's a rare occurrence.

Sound: 10/10

This game has a great soundtrack! I loved most of it. The music for each location (Real and otherwise) is all splendid. They're atmospheric for the most part. But a few tracks are just plain forgettable. Only a few bosses have their own (Freaking awesome) battle theme. But outside of them, the bosses all have one battle theme. Which is pretty cool, but lackluster at the same time. And the normal battle theme isn't as cool as the ones from previous games. But it's still nice nonetheless. It's a mixture of fantastic, and...Eh.
The sound effects are great! Besides the usual jumping, and the weird noise used in text bubbles. Mario and Luigi speak jibberish, outside of "Let's-a-go!" and "Oh yeah!" and the occasional "Okie dokie". In the Dream World it's basically the same thing. Only with Luiginoids about, Luigi's sound effects play a bunch of times at the same time. And it's not as annoying (Or hard on the ears) as you'd think.
BUT WE'RE NOT DONE YET! Peach always says or yells "MARIO! LUIGI!". Bowser roars, or does an evil laugh. Yoshis say, well, Yoshi. And Dreambert laughs, yells, and makes this unintelligible noise. But it's cool to see people other than Mayro and Luggy Mario and Luigi getting the only voice roles. Overally the music is a mixture of forgettable, and amazing. It along with the sound effects are crisp, and very well done.

Addictiveness: 8/10

MAN is this game addictive! It could be just the fun battles. But I couldn't put this game down most of the time! The funny dialogue, the worlds, the puzzles and cool enemies. All these make a recipe for an incredibly addictive game. And after completing it, you've given access to a Hard Mode. Which may call some people to giving it a second playthrough. Unless you're me. In which case you complete it, review it, then play again. It's the same as the normal mode, only the enemies have more HP, deal more damage, and if you fall in battle you can't restart the fight. I would mention the minigames, but they are really out of the way. But you can win some coins, and DX Beans from them. But they're not as addictive as the normal game, oddly enough. However the camera puzzle ones are pretty fun.

Depth: 5/10

Depth, oh depth. How you're never often rated high. This game isn't quite as deep as it's predecessors. Although I don't remember much depth there either...Anyway, the main story itself goes on for awhile. Actually it's one of the longer games I've played on the 3DS.
There's not really any sidequests to do. There is one trade quest that's required to be done, but trust me, you're not going to accidentally miss it. Outside of that, you can go to every area and dig up all the beans buried around. Exactly like in Superstar Saga, only without that amazing Starbeans and E. Gadd. This time around, you eat 'em whole, and can boost stats by doing so! Or you can visit Kylie Koopa and play the camera puzzle miningame for DX Beans which grant you three points to any stat.
Then you can also choose to rescue all the Pi'illo folk scattered throughout the land. Doing so will grant you an awesome reward! Although to be fair, I didn't know that not rescuing them was an option.
There are two other minigames, but honestly I didn't care enough to play them voluntarily to see what I could get from them. lol

Story: 8/10
The story is actually pretty good. It actually doesn't become a "Rescue Peach lmao" for very long. This time around, Mario and crew are invited to Pi'illo Island. An island full of ruins, but a man named Dr. Snoozemore, along with Broque Monsiuer are turning it into a resort as well. And our motley crew are exclusively invited to visit. But upon arriving, Mario and Luigi get into some hyjinxs, Luigi sleeps on an ancient pillow and a portal opens around his head. But a dark force of spookiness pulls Peach in. Mario shatters some nightmare crystal and frees Dreambert. A Pi'llo, who were thought to have gone extinct. As it turns out they were all turned into petrified pillows. Now they're on a quest to rescue Peach, the Pi'llo folk, and get to the bottom of that strange force. Oh, and Bowser? He's somewhere in there too. You'll see.
Anyway, the story goes on for awhile. you can probably go through it faster than I did. It may not be as tense as Partners in Time, or Bowser's Inside Story. It, along with a lot of the general tones of this game seem to return to the lighter story of the first game. Although there are points near the end where the heat is kicked up.

Difficulty: 7/10

This game isn't the hardest around. You'll actually not have very much trouble at all if you follow the game's advice when it tells you to fight as many enemies as you can to keep leveling up. The enemies are all really unique. And if you fight whatever comes your way, it won't be too bad. But about two-thirds of the way through, the enemies step it up in terms of damage and how hard it is to dodge their attacks.
In the Dream World though, there are a LOT more enemies in each battle. But never fear! As Dreamy Luigi powers you up. Combining BOTH Mario's and Luigi's stats. And he'll jump on every enemy next to it. And he'll cause a huge shockwave.
The bosses aren't too terrible, but they WILL wreck you if you're not careful. It's kinda easy, but never let your guard down.
The controls are smooth. You use the Circle Pad to move, A for all Mario's moves, and B for Luigi's. And occasionally using the Land R buttons to change what they can do. And occasionally you use the touch screen to mess with Luigi as he sleeps.

*wakes up* O-oh! That's right! I OVERSLEPT! I gotta finish the review!
This is a solid, fun, and overall enjoyable game from start to finish. It's one I had lots of fun with, and I'm sure anyone who likes RPG's, or at least the Mario & Luigi series will find it enjoyable also. And if you're new to the series, or never played the older games. This is a good one to start with too. Well, you might be confused as to who the heck Starlow is, or catch all the references to Superstar Saga. But you're not going to miss TOO much.
Either way, you're going to have a lot of fun with this game. The writing is well done, the jokes are funny, and you'll want to keep going with it.

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.

"Most locations can be described as Superstar Saga on steroids." That's a clever joke, I love it XD

You did an amazing job at incorporating humor into this review, going into lots of detail but just enough to keep the reader interested, and convincing people to play it.

I also love how you connected the whole dream thing to the review, which made it even more interesting and pretty funny XD Keep up the awesome work!

Great review as always, User! As always, you went into good detail, and mentioned some key points, but you were able to keep it very entertaining at the same time. Keep up the good work, dude!
Dream Team is honestly one that didn't seem to pop out as much to me as some of the others, but you're definitely making me think about that a bit more, so good job there.

Another great review, User! Though I will say, not a big fan of the emoticons. You went in to great detail, and as always your jokes are spot-on!

Keep it up.
