Well, it's playoff time, and the seeds are all set. It should be a great playoffs this year, too. Will teams that just squeaked in like the Penguins be able to pick themselves back up, or will they see yet another early playoff exit? And can teams like the surging Sens keep up their hot streak and take down the top seeded Canadiens? Well, discuss all of that, as well as posting predictions here!

Here are the games, and what I think will happen.

West
St. Louis vs. Minnesota -
Wild in 6 - Frankly, I just think Minnesota has the better team. Dubnyk has been an absolute stud since getting the starting role, and I think he'll carry him through this round.
Nashville vs. Chicago - Predators in 7 - Although Chicago got in without Patrick Kane for the last 20 games or so, it still doesn't help their team. They don't seem to be the dominant force that they have been, and Nashville has been a huge surprise to me, and I think they'll pull this one out in a long series.
Anaheim vs. Winnipeg - Ducks in 5 - There is pretty much no reasoning I put behind this. I have watched pretty much none of either team play, so I don't know what to expect. The Ducks do seem to have more fire power, and I don't know if I can trust Pavelec in net.
Vancouver vs. Calgary - Canucks in 7 - I haven't gotten to watch the Canucks or Flames much either, but I have been keeping up with the Flames throughout the season, because they seem like an interesting team this year. But in the end, I think the Canucks experience will be able to help them through the series. The only reason I have it going 7 games is because I think Hiller will be able to keep his team in it more than either Lack or Miller, who hasn't played a game in months.
East
Montreal vs. Ottawa - Canadiens in 6 - It's been quite the run, but I don't think the Senators make it past the Habs. The Hamburgler has played well, but I trust Price in net much more for what he's done throughout the entire season. But this should be an entertaining series, and this is one I'm especially excited to watch.
Tampa Bay vs. Detroit - Lightning in 6 - It's hard for me to pick the Wings when the last few weeks, neither Howard nor Mrazek were able to steal the starting goaltender position. I think Mrazek has the most upside, but his inconsistency from game to game and lack of prior NHL playoff experience make me think that Howard may get the start. Either way, I think the Bolts will win in 6.
New York Rangers vs. Pittsburgh - Rangers in 4 -  In my opinion, everything has lined up for a sweep in this series. Lundqvist should be able to outplay Fleury, who would have trouble stopping beach balls with how he's played sometimes during the last couple of playoff runs. But the Rangers have been playing some great hockey consistently, and I think they'll be able to get by the Penguins for sure.
Washington vs. New York Islanders - Capitals in 6 - What I think is the determining factor in this series is depth. The Capitals have a good defensive core, and great forwards as well. While the Islanders D have played well, they are certainly not as star studded as the Caps up front, especially with the bottom 6. But this is another one that I'm really excited to watch.

Here are my predictions:

https://twitter.com/tgags123HD/status/587313155195277312

While I obviously want the Islanders to win, I will be happy if any of the teams that weren't even supposed to make the playoffs (Islanders, Predators, Senators, Flames, or Jets) win.

I haven't watched hockey as nearly as I usually do, and that's because the hometown NBA team Atlanta Hawks have been doing so well that this is the most that I have ever watched basketball. But I have seen enough of the season to give me a legit playoff prediction, in my opinion. Here is my prediction for the playoffs all the way through the Stanley Cup, but I won't predict the in between rounds.

EAST
Montreal vs Ottawa - CANADIENS in 7
Tampa Bay vs Detroit - LIGHTNING in 5
NY Rangers vs Pittsburgh - RANGERS in 5
Washington vs NY Islanders - CAPITALS in 7 - technically this one would be an upset, in my opinion

I think the NY Rangers will represent the East in the Stanley Cup.

WEST
Anaheim vs Winnipeg - DUCKS in 7 - even though the Jets haven't beat the Ducks all year
Vancouver vs Calgary - FLAMES in 7
St. Louis vs Minnesota - BLUES in 6
Nashville vs Chicago - BLACKHAWKS in 7

I always hate picking a Canada-less Stanley Cup final, but I think the Ducks will win the West.

STANLEY CUP
NY Rangers vs Anaheim - I got the RANGERS winning it in 6

* Looking over my predictions, I notice I have many playoff series going to 7 games...that tells me I probably won't have this right but I guess we'll just have to see.

I adore playoffs. The fact that my Canucks made it this year (and without Miller for a bit of it as well) is really encouraging. That said, here are my predictions.

West
St. Louis vs. Minnesota - Minnesota in 6
Nashville vs. Chicago - Chicago in 6
Anaheim vs. Winnipeg - Anaheim in 5
Vancouver vs. Calgary - Vancouver in 7

East
Montreal vs. Ottawa - Montreal in 5
Tampa Bay vs. Detroit - Tampa Bay in 6
New York (Rangers) vs. Pittsburgh - NYR in 7
Washington vs. New York (Islanders) - NYI in 6

As for the final matchups...

West
Minnesota vs. Chicago - Chicago in 6
Anaheim vs. Vancouver - Vancouver in 7

Chicago vs. Vancouver - Vancouver in 7

East
Montreal vs. Tampa Bay - Montreal in 6
NYR vs. NYI - NYR in 5

Montreal vs. NYR - NYR in 7

Finals
Vancover vs. NYR - NYR in 7

Why do I have the Canucks going so far? Because Lack has really stepped up, and I've seen the team and fans really feed off of that. He's been really impressive since Miller got injured, and I have no doubt that he'll get the majority of the starts in the first couple series at least. Of course, the Canucks are known for choking, so they won't win it all. They'll come as close as they can, but eventually lose it, as generally seems to happen.

This is only going to be my third time paying attention to the playoffs ever, and I'm really excited for the Islanders making it, and of course for the Rangers as well and really hope that one of them can win this year. It would be so epic here if the Rangers and Ialsnders played in the conference finals.

So far, I've been enjoying the playoffs. There have been a good amount of exciting games, plenty of overtime games, including a double overtime, and another that ended just 15 seconds into the first extra time. I didn't really Ottawa to be as far back as they are in the series, but I guess relying on a goaltender who started so few games in the regular season isn't usually going to translate too well to the postseason. The Calgary and Vancouver series has been a blast to watch, even though there's only been one game that was decided by a single goal in it. The physicality in the series has been great, though.
And then there's the Red Wings. Well, so far, they have played bad. Mrazek stole game 1, but couldn't keep it up for game 2, even though the team around him played slightly better than the eternal penalty kill that seemed to exist in game 1. I think they were very lucky to win the first game, but I'm hoping playing at home will give us a little bit of an edge, and maybe some of the young guys will actually show up for the next two games. I still don't think they have a chance, but either way, it would at least be nice if they weren't invisible for the entire series like it's been so far. If they do show up, it's all on Mrazek to play like he did in game 1, which considering his consistency problems throughout the year, I don't see him playing that way throughout the rest of the series.

So, my predictions haven't been great but boy did I ever enjoy the game last night. 7-4 to knock Vancouver out of the playoffs! That is always a great feeling

That comeback game for the Flames really was a good watch, as was the entire series. Strangely enough, the two series' I've enjoyed the most, being the Flames and Ducks games, were all one sided when it came down to the wins. Which stinks, because it was some of the best hockey I've seen all year with how physical it's been.
And something that I missed with the Chicago series was that Patrick Kane came back, but either way, I probably would have gone with the Preds anyway, lots to do with my what I'll call "general dislike" of any Chicago teams. Well, they could always lose next round.....
Now on with the Red Wings, I was very impressed with how they played in Tampa, especially after completely giving away the game before. Mrazek has been the better goalie no questions asked so far, so I'm now very confident that the Wings will be able to finish it off in six. If we don't win there, however, I'm definitely not going to like our chances anywhere as much going back on the road for a game seven.
And then the only other thing I want to say is it's always good to see the Pens go down early in the playoffs, and they did just that yet again. They just squeezed into the playoffs at the end of the year, and were crawling to the finish for a while, and then just got completely overmatched by the Rangers pretty much the entire series.

i'm glad that the Rangers moved on to the next round, and if the Islanders can win game 7, this is going to be one of the best sports series in New York in a while. It won't be as big as if the Rangers and Islanders played in the Confernce Finals like how the Rangers and Devils had a few years ago, but there's still going to be a lot of intensity, and as long as the Islanders can win this last game, it's guaranteed a New York team will make it to the Conference Finals, im just not too sure who to root for now.

I'm happy with the way my Blackhawks played in the first round. Predators were a tough team and played their hearts out. Really played a clean series. Hats off to them.

I think it helps the Hawks moving forward that they were able to pull games out even when they played poorly at times. I think with a round under their belt and time for Kaner to re-establish himself, they will get stronger as the playoffs go on.

One thing that you have to keep in mind with them is that they are playoff tested and have been in big series in big OT games a lot over the past few years. That helps in comparison to other teams they will face this year in the west. I hope the Blues force game 7 today, and give the Hawks a couple days rest. No matter if they face the wild or the blues, it will be a tough series. I'm hoping they face the wild though so Hawks will have home ice.

I feel like it will be the Ducks vs the Hawks in the WCF and am rooting for a Red Wings vs Hawks cup final. No doubt I will break the bank to get tickets to that.

Go Hawks!

Well, unfortunately, even though I thought the Wings were the better team through most of the game, the Lightning's defense held them out just enough to pull out the win. I really didn't think the Wings would be able to make a splash this year, but after having a 3-2 lead, I expected them to be able to win one of the next two, although that obviously wasn't the case. Now next up for the Wings is making sure Babcock will return, I guess.

Anyways, for round two, I'm hoping for a Wild victory, although I think the Hawks will win it, I would like to see the Flames win, but again, I don't think they will. In the East, I want Montreal out of it, which I think the Lightning have the ability to do, but Bishop cannot be as frail in net as he was against the Wings, and then I'm just hoping for an entertaining series with the Rangers and Capitals. I'm thinking that the Caps will come out victorious, although I've got no preference either way.

I'm a bit dissapointed about the Islanders not making it to the next round, so hopefully the Rangers can do enough winning for the both of them and make it pretty far. I'm gonan try to watch some of the match tonight.

So far, I have enjoyed the playoffs as usual. Every single game I watch has me on the edge of my seat, especially that 2-1 Capitals win against the Rangers. As I was watching the last seconds tick down in this game, somehow I knew that Ovechkin would pull off some tricky (European in this case) maneuver to get them a last second shot. Sure enough, he makes an unbelievable perfect pass back in front of the net and the guy scored with less than 2 seconds left.

So far, the only thing I predicted wrong is the Blues losing to Minnesota in 6 games, which shocked the hell out of me. This just proves that I may never take St. Louis in the postseason ever again XD

*sigh*

Thanks Vancouver.

I mean, I'm not totally disappointed. New coach, relatively new GM, the math doesn't add up for a bid at the Cup. I did think that the Canucks gave away many opportunities, and (yet again) dug themselves a hole they couldn't get out of.

I'm rooting for Montreal, though I think it's more likely that Tampa will edge them in 7. Chicago should win, unless the Wild show up in a major way in game 2 and cause a little unrest in the Blackhawks locker room. I think the Caps will edge the Rangers, and the Ducks will beat the Flames in 5.

Tampa beats the Caps in 6, and Anaheim edges Chicago in 7. Tampa and Anaheim play for the Cup, and Anaheim edges Tampa in 6.

Hawks are looking strong so far. Game 2 the Hawks starts were shining bright and they really couldn't be stopped. I'm hoping they can put their foots on the Wilds throats tonight and take a 3-0 lead. Wild should be hyped early in front of the home crowd, but I'm thinking there will be more red shirts in there than the Wild will be expecting. Either way if the Hawks score early it should put more doubt in the minds of the Wild.

As of now it's looking like a Ducks vs Hawks Conference final. Both teams are looking hot, but you know how the playoff are. Things can change quickly.

Well, both the east and the west series is one game in, and I like the outcome of both of them. Andersen played a very strong game in net for the Ducks, although of course, that could completely change next game. And the Hawks have had quite a few games in the playoffs when they have given up a lot of goals, which is going to have to stop here.
Over in the east, there's not really much I have to say. I think it should be a decent series to watch, but in the end, I think the drop off in goalie ability from Lundqvist to Bishop is going to be the determining factor. I'm really excited to see this series play out, either way, though. But I am pulling for a Rangers victory personally.

Well, the Tampa Bay Lightning were able to win game 7 over the Rangers, even while the game was in New York. Honestly, I didn't not expect that to happen. They've played well, and will definitely have a shot of taking out either team from the West, because unlike usual, the playoff series winners haven't always had the strongest goalie performances like the cups that Quick lead the Kings to. And if this round of the playoffs have given us anything, it's been fantastically entertaining games. With how even it's all come down to at the end, anything could happen in game 7 in Anaheim, and beyond that, I really don't know what my predictions would be for the finals, because it's pretty much a toss up. I'm just hoping for some decently fun to watch games.

Also in offseason news, Mike Babcock, the former Wings coach, has signed a mammoth deal to go to Toronto for the next 8 years for around $50 million. I guess he likes having April and May off. I was surprised Edmonton didn't try going all out with him, because that seemed like the perfect place for him to go, really. I still think the Wings will make it, but Babcock is a great coach, so hopefully the replacement we find will mesh well with the players.

I'm excited to watch my Hawks play game 1 in the Stanley Cup Finals today. 3rd Cup final in 6 seasons! If the Hawks win again and Toews wins another Conn Smythe, I figure you have to start talking about him as one of the greatest at his position. Even though he is still fairly young. Yzermans comments to this extent only further prove that.

In my opinion if the Hawks win, either Toews or Keith should win the Conn Smythe. Both have been huge. Any team would be falling over backwards to have either guy right now.

As far as the series itself goes; I don't believe the Bolts have the experience or the defense/goaltending to be able to hang with the Hawks.

Blackhawks win the series in 6 games, and ONCE AGAIN Hoist Lord Stanley's Cup!

Jordanv78 : Don't crucify me for saying this, but I think Toews is overrated. Sure he is a fantastic defensive player, but his offensive numbers are not as good as the hype around him would suggest. He is a very good playoff player for some reason, but during the regular season his offensive stats are similar to players like Logan Couture and Ryan Johansen, who are definitely not superstar players. He also has an insanely good team around him. When you play with Kane, Sharp, Hossa, Keith, and Seabrook it is hard to not put up points. I think if you put some other centers like Crosby, Tavares, Giroux, Seguin, Stamkos, Malkin, Getzlaf, Datsyuk, etc. on the Blackhawks they all put up more numbers offensively than Toews does now. That being said none of them are as good defensively as Toews is, but I really don't think being better good defensively makes you a top 3 foward in the entire NHL. That being said I do think he is an elite player, but as far as centers go I would take the 8 players I mentioned over him.

I can definitely see him winning the Conn Smythe though. When the playoffs come around there is no stopping him. Some players are just insanely good in the playoffs and Toews in one of those players.

I don't want the Blackhawks to win, but I think they will. They have more playoff experience than the Bolts do and they have a better team on paper. The Tampa Bay team is also very young, which means that they are more likely to make mistakes.
