That was really weird.

I was in a video call with my best friend yesterday who I met in real life in fourth grade but moved to Turkey in eighth grade.

She was just telling me about her new friends and school and stuff, and I'm just amazed at how diverse her classmates are. I find it nearly unbelievable.

She even has a friend from Vietnam!

She also told me she had a gay friend. I found that really cool, too.

So I went to bed and told my mom about it, to which she replied "that's really cool" and smiled. Then I was talking to my twin sister and just started bawling for a reason I'm not even sure of xD.

I was happy, though; there was no question about that. I looked sad, of course, but I was happy - or at least to a certain extent. I suspect I may have been a bit jealous that everyone at my school is a duplicate of each other.

My school is literally the whitest place on Earth.

Alright, I'm sorry. That was mean. But my envy is just really tugging on me right now! I want to meet her friends, or at least meet new friends who are also all different from each other! Here, everyone follows what the media tells them to do like a herd of sheep, and it's driving me nuts! Everyone is EXACTLY the same, listens to the same kinds of music, dresses the same way, talks the same way, acts the same way, etc.. UGH.

And that wouldn't bug me if it weren't for one reason - it's not coincidence. They don't just
happen to be all alike, they do it on purpose. They do it to be cool or whatever. No one even tries to be unique.

I just find it very boring, that's all.

Another reason was that I was happy that all of her friends were there and not somewhere else. This probably wouldn't happen at my school, but there are so many people I can think of who... her friends are just really lucky to be away from.

That gay friend? I just burst out at the thought of him being at a place like my school! They'd eat him alive!

That's an exaggeration, even metaphorically speaking, but I just KNOW they'd talk and snicker behind his back. It would just be horrible.

It just seems so normal where she is to be whatever you want. I wish it were the norm here.

The final reason I may have bawled my eyes out is because of how thankful I am to have met such an open-minded friend . I swear, I don't know how I was that lucky. Out of all the people at my school, I met her, became best friends with her, and it's just amazing considering the culture here is, at least stereotypically, unwelcoming of the new. Some aren't, in fact, but too many are. I just feel so glad I became best friends with one who wasn't. I truly am.

Also, she's from Yemen XD! Yay! Different from me!

Anyway, feel free to share instances during which you've cried out of joy!

Wow. I can't imagine what I would have to deal with if I was at your school. First, I'm very unique, and some people still don't like me because of that. Well, I have friends at that school, so it's not that bad. I hope your school gets better. I also hope your friend stays where she is. That school you're at sounds horrible. It really does.

Your school sounds REALLY mean, so I wouldn't survive there. I used to be a huge victim of bullying, but now, I'm like the most popular kid in school! I don't know how it happened, but it did. At least, I think everyone there is safe thanks to your kindness. I'm really glad to hear that you have this joy inside of you right now, and that you want to meet them again. Just like I would LOVE to meet everyone on Vizzed, because this site means so much to me, as well as the friends I've met on here. Again, glad to hear you have this joyous emotion going through you. I hope your school becomes more diverse in the future.

Omg, I have a gay friend in another class, and jeez... Yeah.. Even children of my age talk about it, I'm not in to that at all, and he's a pretty nice guy, too

I too, have cried out of joy, I cried when i saw my family in egypt for the first time in a few years, before we had facebook too, so yeah

My old school was super diverse, we had a lot of turkish people, arabs, dutch (Obviously) British, and even chinese and japanese people.

LunarDarkness2 : You call that really mean, my old school was awful. Nearly all of the teachers would curse when we wouldn't listen, haha . My friends and I would make fun of them for the rest of our lives, lol.

The only time I really cried out of joy was when I was watching a certain movie that was really happy and a really emotional but I was happy. I'm not too sure about how your school and people there would be like because where I am its not like that at all, like one of my classes literally had 20 different types of people, but its always cool to be able to have events that cab show you new things and ideas

I can't imagine going to a school like yours. My school is a lot more diverse and you can be whatever you want here. Even the "cool people" try to be unique, and they all are, except one who just copies his best friend's personality.

I haven't cried with joy in several years, but it's definitely happened before. There are a lot of times I felt like it but it never came out. Ugh, almost every time I feel like crying it never comes out!

I'm probably going to feel that way after I'm finally my normal self again. Ever since the pressure and anxiety hit that I mentioned in my thread, I've been a lot lazier, I haven't cared about much, and I've had a burnout, which is making school really difficult. I'm really hoping I can go back to the way I was before

Wow my school is kinda similar. The reason I don't have much friends at my school is because I'm so different from everyone else. My school is messed up. Everyone talks about drugs and alcohol and I have the most Immature people in my school that will laugh at the stupidest things. I feel like I don't belong there and I really want to move where there is a better community.

My school has a lot of different countries. Quite a few are from Poland,Lithuania,Spain,Nigeria and some from Malaysia as well. They are all very good at speaking scots and it is cool listening to them speak in their language as well. No one here cares about someone that is gay as it isn't seen as an issue. In fact you would be beaten up (or insulted by other students) if you were to bully them for that reason. I would hate to be in your school.
