Can the run be split into multiple parts? This speedrun isn't exactly quick, I finished round 99 in about 3 hours and 20 minutes, and a lot of it is RNG based, especially in the latter 20-30 stages. (Enjoy full boards of nothing but diagonal clears. )

Also, why the NES version over the SNES version?

sonikku : I'm not sure what RNG based means but yeah, it can be split into multiple clips.

The speedrun and high score competitions this month are based on 2 games in the NES Tournament.

Davideo7 : RNG based basically means you can get stuck in a no win scenario by not getting the bomb you need. In the last 20-30 levels, and especially during the last 5, this can happen a lot when you need that stuff to happen really fast, as you only have two or three rows of free space to work with, and things tend to move fast at those levels, especially after (and even during) the first Wario Time. If you get bad draws enough, you could potentially run out of continues (assuming you're even collecting the coins for a safety net instead of playing it risky by ignoring them) and have to start from the last multiple of 5 you reached.

sonikku : I think that because a video is required, the NES version is better to use than the SNES. The SNES video size would be very large.

The SNES version does however have a VS computer mode that ends with credits sequence that takes somewhere around 40 minutes to complete (instead of several hours).

I recently joined the site, and have been interested in speed-running for a while so I thought I would give this competition a whirl. But after making it to round 79 and getting crushed a few time I am mentally drained. After I closed the game window and got up from my computer, I was a little disoriented. Action puzzle games are really best enjoyed in bursts since they require fast reflexes and mental focus. Its hard to maintain that for too long, let alone 3 hours or more. Rather than game completion I think an arbitrary goal, such as get to a certain stage, would work better in this case. Just something to keep in mind for similar contests in the future. My brain would appreciate it.

Wildman93 : My run isn't even optimal; I wasted a lot of time getting coins for continues I couldn't even hold (9 is the cap), though I only grabbed them for safety in the first place.

A lot of this game is recognizing easy clear patterns early on while simultaneously not relying completely on getting one specific bomb. Diamonds can help a ton too if you get lucky with the color, but even small 2 chains give the greatest benefit.

Just a couple things to keep in mind to ease the pressure of late game and improve your game.

Also, don't do Game B. They have the same amount of levels, but Game B has bosses every 10 levels. Though most aren't very challenging, they will take significantly longer than the non boss levels that Game A gives you.
Doing my play through this weekend. I know I can knock this game out in under 2.5 hours.

sonikku : I did, but I forgot to hit the start button on the recorder. It is no biggie though since I was unhappy with my run. I did it while I was doing a computer scan and clean, and it caused me to lose control on for a few seconds at a time on multiple levels. Caused me to die a few times and I ended up getting a time that would put me in second. So I didn't bother submitting it. I am going to give it another shot either this Friday or Saturday (if I have time. If not, oh well).

Just in case, here is the video that goes with my submission.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnEjjViJEbI

I liked playing this game. Just for fun, I had to go back and play through B Mode. The bosses are fun in this game.
