I thought this would be better suited in debate rather than cartoons as it discusses a controversial topic.

I don't really watch "Legend of Korra" because I didn't really enjoy it compared to "The Last Airbender". However something trending caught my eye called "Korasami". Apparently in the end of the show the creators confirmed that there was a romantic gay relationship between Korra and Asami.

I was stunned to hear this and also not sure how to feel after seeing that there was a bisexual relationship in this show. It's basically the one place I never expected to see it at all. People, including the creators, are saying that they have been building this relationship with bonding moments. However I see them as mere friendly gestures. So that begs the question if this was done for publicity.

Growing up with TLA this was the last thing I would've ever expected from this series but the question is whether it should be in a kids show. Even though LOK has been known to deal with darker themes.

I'll go ahead and say I'm not really that excited about it as it was just kind of put in our faces. I'm not really gonna go into it anymore because when it comes to topics like this there's only ever 1 right answer to most people.

What's your thoughts on a bisexual romance in a cartoon like this?

I was really disappointed with the ending.

And to consider them revolutionary... makes the entire idea of "revolutionary" pitiful. How is Korra and Asami holding hands with a lot of "implications" supposed to be a satisfying ending? It really isn't. It seems like they were going for the headlines versus making the story flow.

If they truly wanted to be revolutionary with bisexuality there would have been more than trying to sexualize the holding of hands. Korra and Asami would have gotten together mid-season and authors could have made them have as fulfilling an ending as was seen in season 1. That would have flowed better, and we could have been satisfied.

And that would have actually been a win for the LGBT movement, as what's the movement wants most is to be normalized.

Not this unfulfilling surprise ending. This was just headline whoring, if I'm to be blunt.

What we got was something really really rushed. Part of that is Nick's fault. Korra had such low funding there was an episode solely of previous clips.

Still, I don't think we can even consider it a "bisexual romance" with how little material there was. I mean, the creators literally had to come out and say that they were romantically interested in each other. That wouldn't have been a problem if the show was straightforward with it. Right?

As for cartoons showing LGBT? As long as it's age-appropriate content, it's probably a good thing.

So what people should really be angry about is how sucky the ending was.

EideticMemory : Well not many people are angry at all really. It's getting an overwhelming amount of support but I feel as though this was just a publicity stunt.

I just feel as though it's completely out of nowhere especially in a cartoon like this. Maybe if they has introduced it slowly throughout the series it may have been a little less awkward but they kind of just put it in our faces.

It may have have been more subtle if they had leaned in for a kiss over them having to announce it like that :/.

I have no problem with it however it just feels odd in a show like this and completely out of nowhere. I'm not sure if it would have ben less odd if I had watched the show and not compared it to just TLA which I presume is significantly less mature than Korra as it doesn't deal with more adult themes topics.

Blubcreator :

I think we both have the same problem with it. It was rushed.

I also thought it was odd for them to suddenly introduce a same-sex relationship after eight seasons (TLA and Korra) of opposite-sex relationships.

This relationship really would need time and plot to integrate it into the series, versus the last fifteen seconds of the finale. I think most of us felt it was in our faces. Spending more time on it would have helped.

As my profile picture could probably reveal, I hoped for Mako and Korra. The dude really didn't have a proper ending, despite his heroics in the last episode (no spoilers).

It seemed like he was still into Korra, and his character had little finality at the end of the series.

I thought the TLA finale was slightly above mediocre, but at least it had that sense of finality.

I think it was for publicity.

People in media will do things, even horribly just for publicity. That's the ball game really. You look at Holywood and tell me how many people are conservative vs how many are liberal.

Look at pop singers, TV Stars, Movie Producers.

The fact that some anime producers got this doesn't surprise me.

Here's a hint.

It's something called cool.

You see a disabled person in class, you're the first one to be friends with him?

Cool.

You see a mental retard, you're the first guy to understand?

Cool.

You see a gay person and say that you accept him the way he is?

Double Cool.

You see, cool is cool. And whatever is cool, sells. People who jump on with the bandwagon will have the bandwagon's support. You might think that many things done in media come from the heart.

So few things actually are.

Even "charitable" deeds can turn out to be publicity stunts ect.

I don't respect anyone who does anything because it's "cool". Or because "everybody else is doing it".

I respect people, who look for truth.

Based on Eidict's information, sounds like they were trying to get an extra "cool" factor than really do anything "truthful" here.

Dark knight of the blackened sun. I am Sword Legion, one of many. My mask is thick, and my armor is strong. All the more necessary in a world such as this. . .
