I made a thread like this a long time ago but I can't find it. I assume it's closed. Anyhow, which game in the Super Smash Bros. series is your favorite (including Project M)? Some people prefer the classics, others prefer Melee or Project M for the speed and technique, while some prefer SSB4 or Brawl for the abundance of characters.

My thoughts:

SSB - I don't really play this a whole lot. Many people prefer older games of a series such as Mario Kart 64 because they say it gives them a good feel. I understand that. Nostalgia feels great. But honestly, 90% of the time the newer games are way better. Smoother, more items, more characters, more courses/levels/stages, and funner overall gameplay.

SSBM - GOTTA GO FAST~~~~~~~~~Some think they prefer Melee over Brawl or SSB4 because they grew up with it (nostalgia again). But they are
WRONG. They like it because it's faster. We're talking about casual players here. They know something is funky with Brawl but they don't know what. Then they realize that Brawl is slow and floaty. That's when they go full Melee mode.

SSBB - UR 2 SLOW*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*Slow and floaty and slow. And floaty. And slow. The only good things: Subspace Emissary, Wolf, Lucario, and Lucas. NOTHING ELSE, FINISHEDDD.

PM - My personal favorite. Project M Fixed everything wrong with both Brawl and Melee. It's as fun as Melee but as well-made and big as Brawl. What's not to like about it?

SSB4 - Very fun, much better than Brawl. BUT BOY DID THEY SCREW UP NOT HAVING LUCAS.

TheFadedWarrior : SSBB- UR 2 SLOW FOR DA WIN YAY :3. Yay :3. SSBB is da best, really. For its amazing soundtrack, with gameplay, and storyline. If a person owns a Wii, this game is a must. Also:

SSB64: For Nostlagia.
SSBM: For Gameplay.
SSBB: For Soundtrack.
SSBB3DSWIIU: For Graphics. :3. I've never had a chance to try Project M, I heard it's a Melee and Brawl mix. Sounds fun. Brawl is really a great game, also my favorite game ever.

SSB4 Wii U > Brawl > 3DS > Melee >>>> 64

Yep, I think Brawl gets way more hate than it deserves. It has an insane amount of content and, besides tripping, it's not really that bad for competitive play unless you're a pro.

Basically from Melee on, they're all fantastic. 3DS should've been merged with Wii U though and it has disappointingly little to do in it.

I never played Project M, but I'm sure it's good. I always played Brawl+ instead, since it stayed true to Brawl for the most part, but just added minor balancing things. I never felt like installing a new mod when PM came out.

Smash 64 really feels dated now and it's incredibly how much Melee improved over it.

*Brawl cough cough* I said nothing...

OK OK I said something. I haven't played Project M, but if I did, I'm sure I'd enjoy it a lot. Brawl was what really got me into Smash Bros, though, and I appreciate it for that. I hope to get Melee someday and get really good at it. But I can deal with a life without it for a while. I've played it a little bit, and it was difficult to get used to. I highly preferred the defensive play of Brawl. I also loved R.O.B., final smashes and The Subspace Emissary quite a lot. I still don't have SSB Wii U or 3DS, so I can't give my full verdicts on those, but I am highly disappointed that R.O.B's final smash was changed.

I thought Smash 64 was pretty crazy stuff back in the day, tho. I never got into it much because I thought it was too hard, tho . I regret never buying it. Although it's nice I can emulate it or play it on Wii. I was a lazy gamer. Now, I'm somewhere in between a casual and serious gamer. I rarely stay with a game for long unless I enjoy it a lot, but I generally tend to take games fairly seriously and won't shy away from a game just because it's hard (I enjoyed Super Meat Boy, but I know I probably will never beat I Wanna Be the Guy in this lifetime and therefore have avoided it). I always want to get better at them if I can. It's difficult living with a brother who doesn't take gaming nearly as seriously as I do. And I've had to change my habits a bit to accomodate him. I wish he'd take it more seriously. Then both of us would have more fun.

Well, my opinion has to be 3DS, yes, I am the one that ruined TFW's expectation of the 3DS version of not getting any votes. But really, the reason I have select this game, I have only played SSB 3DS and Brawl as of this point, and I haven't tried out the Wii U version yet (but I will hopefully in a few months), so that's why I go with the 3DS, and plus, it's a mobile Smash Bros game and you can't get wrong there.

The one that seems underrated to players with the 3DS is the Smash Run, I think to my personal point of view, I really like the Smash Run in this game, and that with the regular Smash, that's why I got to go with this game.

IgorBird122 : Yeah, I absolutely love Smash Run. That was all I did when I first got the game for 3DS. And you do have a good point; The fact that the 3DS version can be played anywhere makes it twice as good. The Wii U version may have better graphics, more of everything, and sometimes easier to control (because it's on a large screen), but you can't really argue with a portable version.

VizzedGuy111 : I hate to admit this but I like Super Smash Bros. Brawl the most. I know you said it's slow but to me it's a pretty great game due to content. I mean it does have a story mode called Subspace Emissary and you can at least fight with your friends though. Although, the superior Project M is better, I never played that game so... yeah I guess?

I really liked Brawl. Liked the character roster, enjoyed the adventure subspace mission thing, and the fighting and stages were good. Haven't played the new one yet, so I don't know how that one is like. Kind of disappointed that they took out Lucas though, he's my main in Brawl. Maybe they'll bring him back someday.

My favorite is Smash Bros. Wii U, purely speaking from just a gameplay perspective. I love Brawl, but after playing Project M and now the Wii U version, I think it's definitely slower than what I'd prefer. But I think the Wii U version is a perfect mix between the faster Project M and the more deliberate Brawl. I haven't played Melee, but it would probably be right ahead or right behind Brawl. And last for me is the original, mostly because it just isn't very deep. Very few stages, no side specials, and small amount of characters. Not a bad game, but the rest all add so much more.

My favorite Smash Brothers would probably have to be Super Smash Brothers Melee for the GameCube. I like the map selections, and also the fact that GameCube is one of my favorite systems plays a major role in my decision as well. Also, I've always played as Ness in the Super Smash series, and I feel like Melee really matched up Ness's fighting technique to how hes actually supposed to fight, and the dynamics between button selections and the moves to go with each button blended really well for me. Cheers ~Fox

I'm going to go the hurdur way and say Wii U.
I appreciate the original for its innovation, but it is outdated in pretty much every way you can think of.
Melee and Project M I can't say much about since I have yet to play either of them for more than a match.
Brawl used to be my favourite. The sheer amount of content it had was insane and introduced so many newcomers! *RIP Lucas*
The Subspace Emissary also kept me entertained for a very solid amount of time and was probably my favourite mode. The internet sucked though.
Wii U kind of kept on with that tradition and added a few more modes here and there and some nice competitive balance between characters. Plus, the online is sooo much better. That alone pretty much puts it above Brawl, because Smash is a series best played with others.

I like Melee because it is the only real Smash Bros... just kidding. I do like Melee though because it had my favorite character to play as, Mewtwo, so Smash Wii U will most likely become my favorite after the DLC comes out.

TheFadedWarrior : About what you said about SSB4, did you hear that Lucas will be joining the fight via DLC? If not, then I guess I just made your day a little better.

Anyway, my favorite game in the series would have to be SSB4 for the Wii U because for one thing it's the 1st HD Smash Bros game, also out of all the games I've played in the series (never played melee), SSB4 has the best combat and a massive amount of characters to choose from. If I had to point out one negative though, it's that the multiplayer at times can be really slow and choppy. It's amazing how much better Mario Kart 8's multiplayer is than SSB4.

I have to go with Project M

It's Melee with more characters (6 really isn't enough)
Redundant moves like warlock punch made into useful moves.
Literally everyone is balanced after over 4 years of dev and testing.
Took some good things from brawl like tethering and DACUS.
IKE CLIMBERS

Plus everything that made Melee so competitive in the first place.

Fast speeds, comboing potential, favoring of offensive play, high amounts of technical skill, and so much to take into consideration in actual gameplay from wavedashing to DI'ing.

Everything else in comparison just pales to it, really it does.

I have to go with Project M

It's Melee with more characters (6 really isn't enough)
Redundant moves like warlock punch made into useful moves.
Literally everyone is balanced after over 4 years of dev and testing.
Took some good things from brawl like tethering and DACUS.

bombchu link : I agree with you on every point except your Warlock Punch thing. Ganondorf's new neutral-b is literally not useful at all to competitive Ganondorf players. His cape is entirely different than Mario's (all it does it reflect projectiles), and his floaty thing is... I don't even know. But it is cool that they made his sword taunt a new Warlock Punch.

Also, I don't know if you knew this or not, but Ike Climbers isn't just two different players in the video. It's actually a fully functional Ice Climbers clone code that they scrapped. They said they might release it if they fix a few bugs.

TheFadedWarrior :

I'm 80% sure you misread what I typed.

Redundant moves like warlock punch (were) made into useful moves.

And yes I'm fully aware it was a fully functional CPU clone that follows you around.

E: oh wait you were referring to the cape as useless. nevermind

I really like Smash bros 4 more than Brawl. I mean, Brawl was a lot slower in comparison. Smash four is better in every single way except for characters.

Cuase in Smash four we lost Wolf. :/

But that's a really small thing for all the big things they did.

We get classic NES characters like Duck Hunt and Little Mack.

The Game is way way WAAAAYY less broken. (No more Ice climbers infinite grabs vs Meta spam bat ball).

The graphic are the best I've ever seen for a Nintendo game. And the game- it's simply beautiful! New courses for Yoshi, Star Fox, and a Final destination version of each.

Project M I like for it's heavier gravity and offensive oriented combat system. If it turns out to be more balanced than Smash Four, I'll probably play it instead. Plus it was made by fans with a lot, lot, lot of love. They knew what we were doing. It's kindof amazing to get this kind of opportunity. Fan projects are not always finished. People have to work for a living you know.

TheFadedWarrior :

I really like the New White Sword of Death attack. It's more awesome than Marth! I used to main Gannondorf, but once the game hit a certain point of skill, I couldn't land any Warlock punches. Now I can edgegaurd and actually get kills with the weapon. I just don't use his cape, as it is a kindof bad attack. But I'll bet I still have to figure out how incorporate it. (I don't even use Mario's cape much unless dealing with projectiles). The ability to stop your fall in the air and float a little can give the little extra oomph you actually need to make it sometimes.

Dark knight of the blackened sun. I am Sword Legion, one of many. My mask is thick, and my armor is strong. All the more necessary in a world such as this. . .

Melee. It's the one I grew up with, and it also feels like simple perfection. Brawl is definitely my least favorite.
