Hello everyone and Happy Thanksgiving ! I will just get straight to the point. Sorry I haven't been able to get on vizzed because my computer was stolen by someone I know that has just given my computer back to me, but I haven't been on vizzed since maybe November 9th, 2014 and have been dreading the days away from vizzed, but also my temporary return will only be until the end of this weekend, then I will have to give back my computer to the person who stole it. The reason I got my computer stolen was because I am not doing good in college right now, like I am on a scholarship called "Presidents Scholarship" and I had been withdrawn from one of my classes this semester which has put me on probation for the scholarship in my next semester (my last semester with the scholarship) and because of the withdrawn class, I will have to take 14 credit classes next semester to keep my scholarship. Otherwise, if I don't complete 14 credit classes with a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.25, I will have to pay back $1275 of my scholarship to my school and I don't even have a job, so after this weekend I will be leaving vizzed for awhile which I don't know how long I will be gone from vizzed, but I guess until I get out of treading water and fire. I thought it would be best to bring this situation to at least my friends on vizzed awareness, but anyone feel free to reply even if we are strangers. Anyways, have a good Thanksgiving, and a good break from school for those who are going to school like me.

Aw man, that is bad luck for you.

I hope that you are focusing on your classes at least. I know that you are able to get a higher GPA and make us proud. I was wondering what happened to you and thanks for keeping us updated on what's happening in your life right now.

ghostfishy : Thank you ghostfishy ! Also now I only have three classes this semester. Since I withdrawn from "Legal, Ethical, and Regulatory Issues in Business (GBS 205)" and those three classes are giving me somewhat of a hard time too because the math class I'm taking right now is the first probability and statistics class that I have ever taken. I never took probability and statistics in high school, and there are so many equations to remember for one test that I didn't do so well in my second test in the math class. I got a 64 out of 100 on the test and it brought my grade down to a 75 average in the class. In the math class, the only grades are the test, final exam and then the online homework from "Mymathlab". Have you ever been introduced to "Mymathlab" in one of your math classes? Hopefully I can do good on my last test (third exam) to bring my grade up to a "B" and then maintain the grade going in and out with the final exam.

Well, so far in my grades, I have an "A" in "Psychology and Culture (PSY 132)", a "B" in "Macroeconomic Principles (ECN 211)", and a "C" in "Business Math Analysis (MAT218)".
If I get an "A" in "Psychology and Culture (PSY 132)", a "B" in "Macroeconomic Principles (ECN 211)", and a "B" in "Business Math Analysis (MAT218)", my GPA will be brought down to a 3.511, so I can get above a GPA average of at least a 3.5 with maintaining two of my grades and bringing up the math grade. But on the other hand, my brother has to bring up all his grades to prevent himself from losing the scholarship, or also that since we have already been placed on probation for the next semester that if my brother doesn't bring all his grades up, he will be on double(?)-probation for next semester o_0 and I don't know if he will lose the scholarship if a student is on probation for the nest semester twice, but hopefully he can still keep the scholarship. What do you think will happen if my brother goes on double-probation for the scholarship?

Ugh I hate math so much. I remember doing online math homework and the software would screw me over a lot of times especially when I put an answer was also the same as another answer. I forgot which company that I had to do my online homework for math. I am also trying my best to get only As and Bs for my classes.

I think if he were to be on double probation, he wouldn't get the scholarship. They only give warnings once and if you don't give what they want the second time, you won't get what you receive and suffer the consequences. At least that would be my guess and I don't think you or your brother would want to get turned down by that. If you're a good brother (which I think that you are), you would try your best to help motivate him. Not everyone is able to get scholarships or get aid to pay for college.

ghostfishy : Yeah, online homework can be pretty specific and outrageously annoying, like in my online homework, "Mymathlab", the system will count you wrong if you do fractions when it wants decimal equivalents and vice versa. Then also it will count you wrong if you did one decimal roundoffs when it wanted you do four decimal roundoffs. Also the help in the questions, like examples that walk you through similar examples of the question, will not give you all steps to solving the problems and sometimes doesn't even give you background concepts that are prevalent in the question you are doing, so you are left wondering which concepts from your previous classes, like if you were in MAT217 and you had to remember what you did in MAT212 to understand a homework problem in your online homework in MAT217 (what the heck lol), so you wouldn't even feel like doing the homework when you can't remember what you did in previous classes. I love math, but online homework is so hard to deal with when your correct answers that are alternate equivalents to the same answer and you are certain that is the correct answer is not getting you the points. One time, I was doing a homework problem for my math class that I'm in now and the helping example gave you an equation to follow and followed that equation in the example, but when I did it, the equation I used, used a "+" instead of the "-(minus)" that the example followed and I got the correct answer with the wrong equation. Then a wrong answer with the equation they gave you in the helping example. I was really pissed at that and it was the first question in the lesson out of 20 questions, so I just stopped for the day because I wouldn't know if I had to use the wrong equation I came up with, or the equation they give you in the examples.

Also what you said about double-probation makes a lot of sense to me, so I think you are correct about that, now that I think about it, but my brother, when he goes on double-probation for next semester due to his grades in this semester, I was thinking that he would immediately lose the scholarship for two more times that he can use it and have no chance to make up for next semester, consequently having to pay the $1275 to our college right away, so I calculated his GPA for him with many situations (kind of different grades he can get in all of his classes this semester to keep the scholarship) and motivated him to try his best in aiming for those grades I told him he could get to keep the scholarship and give him a chance to raise his GPA higher in next semester, so he wouldn't have to pay the amount to the college. I hope I can somehow do more for him that way he doesn't get learned helplessness (psychology term) and hopelessness from now until we are out of this mess.

"Learned Helplessness" is "a condition in which a person suffers from a sense of powerlessness, arising from a traumatic event or persistent failure to succeed. It is thought to be one of the underlying causes of depression."

Cradily is love : Thank you Cradily is Love ! I first started out as an Accountant major in college. Then after two semesters, I found out that maybe Accounting is not for me, so I changed to a computers major, or a CIS (Computer Information Systems) major. It's just I took Accounting, or got introduced to Accounting my Freshman year and Sophomore year of high school that I thought it would be something I liked to pursue for life, but the bulk of concepts in the Accounting classes I had in high school were nearly unrecognized, so I went on believing that it would be a job I like, like how it fits my personality on how I'm shy around in public, so I wanted a desk job to avoid too much interaction in a job that I will have in life. But now as I was reinforcing my ideals about Accounting in college, the material was confusing, so I decided not to follow that career.

Also I am thinking that I will get my laptop back by the end of Spring Semester 2015 which in Arizona is May 15, 2015, but hopefully something comes up before then that will force the computer back into my hands (in lack of better words).

Aw man, I hope that you and your brother can do what it takes to get good grades in an honest matter. Take all chances of free tutoring and extra credit if your college offers them. What Cradily is love said, let us know when you get your laptop back and will plan to stick around Vizzed more often when you can!

You two can gain everything back, I know that you both can!

Aw man! I'm definitely going to miss having you around... But what you'll be doing is more important, and I'm sure you'll catch up soon. I'll be looking for you then, man. Take care

Yeah, I will make sure to get on vizzed first whenever I get my computer back and tell everyone that I'm back, and hopefully everything is good by then too. But until then, I will miss being around vizzed. After all, I love this site so much that when I have my computer the first thing I do is turn on my computer and go on vizzed after I wake up every morning lol.

Sorry to hear that man. =/

I hope you do manage to make classes work out.

College is pretty brutal with the grades. I hope you're able to overcome that.

EideticMemory : Yeah college GPA determination kind of sucks. My school gives GPA points to only if you get a grade in the class as follows:
A= 4.0
B= 3.0
C= 2.0
D= 1.0
and I think, but not sure
F= 0.0
multiplied by the credit hours per class.

How I calculate GPA is like:
GPA points from grade in each class times the respective class with its credit hours
Credit hours for each class
(the underline was suppose to be a division sign since I don't know how to do otherwise)

Just in case you didn't know how to calculate GPA, but in ASU (Arizona State University), they have "+" and "-(minus)" in GPA, so I hope that means that if you got a low "B", like an 82 that your GPA points for your grade would be a 3.2 instead of just a 3.0 for all "B"s ranging from low to high.

Well I also got my classes selected for next Spring semester 2015 and I'm taking five classes for 3 credits each making 15 credit class schedule. The bad thing about the schedule though is that I will be going to school Monday-Friday and it is because one of my classes are only available next spring 2015. I was originally going to transfer over to ASU after the Summer Semester 2015, but my schedules conflicted and now I have to go until Fall 2015. And be able to transfer to ASU by the end of Fall 2015 to start my Bachelor's Degree in CIS.

And be able to transfer to ASU by the end of Fall 2015 to start my Bachelor's Degree in CIS.

That's the same way mine works.

Again, it's pretty brutal. =P

Best of luck getting them back up.

EideticMemory : Yeah and thank you EideticMemory ! My GPA right now is 3.571, so I don't have to worry too much about losing the scholarship this semester, but I have my own goal of trying to keep my college GPA above a 3.5, so hopefully I can withstand all other classes I have before transferring over to ASU and maybe with a 3.5 GPA, I can get even more scholarships from ASU. I am also a member of Phi Theta Kappa, so colleges usually have a lot of scholarships for Phi Theta Kappa's members last time I checked. Many universities have already emailed me to go to their school with one of their scholarships just because I had a high GPA and I was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, so hopefully everything works out well.

ILikeTimsDaily : Thank you ILikeTimsDaily ! Yeah it is pretty bad right now with maybe having to pay the scholarship back, but for me, I have it easier since my GPA is higher, so I will have more luck in range of grades before I go under a 3.25 GPA. But my brother has a GPA of 3.344 right now and his grades that he is maintaining now in this Fall Semester 2014 will bring him under a 3.25 GPA, which in the scholarship, it says that a student can get between a 3.25 GPA and a 3.0 GPA, and still keep the scholarship if they brought up their GPA the following semester after the semester that they were put on probation because of falling below a 3.25 GPA, but above a 3.0 GPA. But also as I were saying to ghostfishy, we were already put on probation for withdrawing from a class this Fall Semester 2014 and had to acquire certain grades in our classes to maintain at least a 3.25 GPA for both this Fall Semester 2014 and next semester Spring 2015 to maintain the scholarship. So would my brother be on double-probation for the scholarship or would they most likely take away his scholarship with two warnings of probations which is what ghostfishy told me that she thinks would happen to my brother? What do you think will happen if my brother is put on double-probation? You might come to the same answer as what ghostfishy said, but maybe there was some idea we missed and maybe there is the benefit of the doubt in this situation if you can think what it is though I'm not saying that there will be a redeeming quality, or a beneficial of doubt in my brother's situation. But is it possible to give him a better situation than the one he has been given playing out for him as we speak? Sorry for the reiteration of words, but I thought maybe I said confusing things in previous posts and probably even said confusing things in this post, but hope everything is okay and understood correctly.

All that I'm trying to do GPA wise is keep it above a 3.5 which if I brought up my math grade from a "C" to a "B", I would have my GPA fall to a 3.511 for cumulative GPA after this Fall Semester 2014.

Eniitan : Thank you Eniitan ! I like visualizing where I'm going to be with my GPA in college, so I tried calculating my GPA with theoretical grades for my Fall Semester 2014 and found out that I can still keep my scholarship through one of the realistic worst case scenarios in my classes.

It's like if I get an "B" in "Psychology and Culture (PSY 132)", a "C" in "Macroeconomic Principles (ECN 211)", and a "C" in "Business Math Analysis (MAT218)", I will have a big drop in my GPA, but it is still above a 3.25. I would get a 3.289 GPA with those grades and if you are wondering why I call it a "realistic worst case scenario" it is because right now I have an 80 average in Macroeconomic Principles and a 90 average in Psychology and Culture, and I might not have luck on my side finishing the semester, so I might stay at a "C" in Business Math Analysis and go down one letter grade in the other two classes, so that is what I thought could be one of my worst case scenarios. I mean only think that if worst case scenario happens, I will have some luck to be only dropping one letter grade from two of my classes and staying at a "C" in my math class. I don't expect to fail any classes and I hope I don't fail any classes, so I just thought that having all possibilities aware to a person lets them know what to avoid and what to aim for. At least that is how I think. Do you think knowing your worst case scenarios and best case scenarios will help a person achieve somewhere in between, but do better than not knowing the possibilities?

Good grief, they are vicious. $1275! Still I understand. You will be dearly missed but in my opinion, education comes before all else. Just do to the best of your ability and hope for the best. Besides, there is no such thing as "goodbye", only "farewell." Farewell, Happiness7
