Wait..There's a problem with Toonami? Yep.

Now i must admit,i did not think about making this discussion, until i watched an old video,of Gigguk, from the Anime Zone.Specifically this one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SI1DZMwiASM

For those who don't know, this is Gigguk,he has a youtube channel, that discusses anime.Very similar to what i do on here. But onto the point. In this video,he brings up very good points about television, and bringing in new anime fans, into our medium. At the end of the video,he implys that the new Toonami, would not do well.

Boy,was he wrong.

The new Toonami did very,VERY well.It brought more recent anime to the lineup, and made fans go into a nostalgia driven frenzy. It seemed that the new Toonami passed all expectations, and would continue to do this..For a while,at least. Now,here is the part, where gigguk pulls a trump card on me.Sometime in the video,he says something along the lines of.

"I'm interested to see how the new Toonami does, after fans realize, that you can watch every single episode,of every single show that you want, without staying on a fixed schedule."

He basically says that Toonami would fizzle out, after a few months..It appears that he was correct. And if you don't want to take my word for it,just look at this chart.

http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=TOONAMI

Notice how Toonami had a HUGE SPIKE,when it came back to television.Just 13% under the amount,of its original viewers. But then,at the start of 2013,it just sort of..Died.Look at how right at the end of 2013,the ratings dropped,by around 85%.That's insane. And why is that? Well,it appears that gigguks prediction, was right. There is no point,of rushing home late,to catch the next episode of One Piece.I can watch every single episode,on crunchy roll.I can read the manga to.

Not even nostalgia can bring older viewers back,because-

1.If they really wanted to re watch it,they can buy the box set,or they can go online.
2.Toonami does not air much of the anime,it originally did. (Which in my opinion,is a good thing.)

You know..This sort of reminds me of something, from my other hobby.I'll make this brief, skip through it if you want.
Alrighty, for those who don't know,i play a little game called world of warcraft.HALT YOUR RAGE!

Allow me to finish, you may insult me afterwards. In the game,we have these things called dungeons, and raids. From 2004-2008,we needed a get a group of people from around the world,to get into these dungeons, and raids. However, the company that keeps the game online, made this little thing called dungeon finder.

The dungeon finder puts you in a que,and makes you wait for 4 other people, that are in a line, just like you. After you have waited,it sends you to a dungeon.Just like that,no more searching,no more begging for people to help you, those days are over. There was a bit of controversy, that was from the hardcore players, but overall,it was excepeted, and the old way of doing things died out. Then raid finder launched..That is a different story.

See the similarities? You don't? For christ..Alright,let me give you an example.Lets say we do a test.We gather 100 people, and we give them 2 options, you can walk up,and down 1000 steps,or,you can take an escalator, that gets you to the top,and back down,in 5 minutes. What do you think most people will choose..

The escalator.

Its simple, the easiest option, will almost always win, over the harder option. Its common sense. And that is why the ratings of Toonami, are so low. There is nearly no point to tuning in.I have everything at my disposal.I can watch anything i want, whenever i want.I don't need wait 64 weeks,to watch fullmetal alchemist brotherhood.I can watch it all in a week.

Tv in general,is becoming an outdated concept.I don't even play my old ed edd n eddy dvd collection,on the TV.I just watch the episodes on my laptop.(Excluding the holiday specials.I must watch those on the teli...Its a tradition.)

This brings up an even bigger question, how do we make the ratings on Toonami rise?

Well,i believe i have an answer to that.First of all, start airing new stuff.Sure, cult classics always have there place, but we need new things. We can't keep feeding new generations, the same thing over, and over again. The only thing we have, that has aired from the last 2 years,is Deadman wonderland,Blue exorcist,Sword Art Online, and Attack On Titan.Try things like Blood Lad,Tokyo ghoul, when it gets a dub.(Trust me,it will) Aldnoah zero, when it gets a dub.Noragami.Fate/Zero.There are so many other options, but Toonami is convinced that they can only air very popular anime,or classics in the genre.Which brings me to another point.

Air a variety of stuff. This one will most likely not happen,as toonami does not get alot of time to air anyway. And we sure don't want to show our action, hormone crazed teens K-On.(In all honesty, just show them a harem anime, and watch the $$$$ come in.)

But its clear that we need more, then our typical run of the mill shonen.Instead of showing the audience your men, with arms that can choke a baby elephant, while yelling out there attacks, and hunting demons, how about we show them something more thought provoking? Like Steins gate, (bet Sop281 would really like hearing that one.) Madoka Magica,Fate/Zero.Even Future Diary can work.Just show me something, that makes me use a brain!

I love shonen.I love Naruto,i love Bleach,i love Fairy Tail,i love Soul Eater,i love D.Gray Man.I love Death Note. But you can't keep feeding me junk food (Although,Death Note is more like a Diet Soda.A much better option, but still has its roots in the shonen genre.),or you will send me,to an early grave. For the love of god, show me something else!

That is all i have to say on the matter. However,to end this,i would like to ask you-The reader,a question. What do you think of Toonami today? Do you like it? How do you think it can get better.Until then,i'll see yah next time.*Waves*

Oh yes,see that picture down below? That's a hint for the next thing i am writing about. Now if you excuse me,i will continue being depressed, over Naruto chapter 700..Jesus man..

You,disgust me...

Well....you pretty much expressed your opinion about it, and most are true. toonami doesn't even show in most countries and only in the usa. So I can imagine it won't be as good as it was in the past. Back then they brought in shows that actually grabbed peoples attention, which made it so good back then. Nowadays I hear some anime that, are on now are not in the high rating it suppose to be. And also true all animes are now available online to watch. So you won't really get much viewers to watch toonami on tv :/

You...make pretty much a good point when it comes to Toonami, hate to say it but its an obsolete programming block, its still a good one in my opinion but the fact is that it can't keep itself alive. I suppose using it to show case different animes for people to check out and think, "Hmm I'd like to see more" could help in that regards but thats about it....man I feel old.

Honestly im just glad its back on the air, I assume its current line up of the "the big 4" (naruto, one piece, bleach, dragon ball z) will be replaced after 2014 is over and toonami will bring on air some real anime like as mentioned tokoyo goul, or maybe even Akame ga kill or even guilty crown honestly tho I feel as tho the current line up will be over after 2014 and was only made to gain viewers and basically get the word out that toonamis back.
