So I eat as much as an average person and sometimes more. I even get a lot of exercise when I go cycling and play football/soccer. However I stay extremely skinny.

Are there any tips to dealing with a hyper active metabolism? I feel like this lifestyle of mine is a bit unhealthy.

I was always that way when I was younger, but as far as I'm aware, it's not bad for you.

My mother would always tease me about how I'd eat sooo much, but never gain a pound.  And I was full of energy at all times.

As you age, your metabolism will likely slow down. College and married life will start putting pounds on you if you don't take care of yourself.

Overall, though I'm not health expert, I don't think you have anything to fret about.

God bless!

Get older.

That's the advice I've been given, and I, like you, have a hyperactive metabolism.

I eat like a cow, inhale food faster than a tornado, and get a lot of exercise.

Yet, I'm 6'3", and weigh only 145 pounds (last time I weighed myself, I was actually 140 and managed to somehow lose weight).

In time, our metabolisms will slow down.

Not much we can do. It may seem unhealthy to live like this, but it's even less healthy for us to change our diet and mess with the natural progression of our bodies.

Im the same way. Its difficult for me to gain weight. Its perfectly normal for some people, and so many people wish they had a metabolism like ours.

Here is a tip... muscle weighs more than fat, so if you keep building on the muscle (exercise, not just life weights) and eating healthy (and balanced), combined with a healthy sleep schedule (and consistent), you will slowly add on some pounds of muscle. Also, your body will grow in time. Your body is still developing and growing and changing, so I suggest going for the healthy lifestyle approach as soon as possible.

If it doesn't stop when you get much older, then you might want to get it checked out, you could have some kind of glandular issue (an example being Hyperthyroidism).

But at your age, it's no very common.

What bobq said is good advice. Doing low-rep, high-weight lifting will build muscle; so 8-10 reps of lifting a heavy weight, take a 60 second break, then do it again, and again; after your 3rd set, your muscle should be completely exhausted, if not, add some weight next time. Something that will increase muscle bulk will help you look a little more "filled in". Also eat a lot of protein to make sure you have what is needed to increase muscle size.

But don't overdo it or get stressed about your "skinniness", it's just outside appearance.

Blubcreator : I also have that problem even when I go to wendy's and get a baconator I'll sometimes not gain any weight. I'd recommend just keep trying to get plenty of calories each day and hope for the best.

gamerforlifeforever2 : Eating one fatty food every now and then WON'T make you gain weight in and of itself.  You can't say "hey, I'm going to eat a whole pizza today so I can gain 10 pounds!"  Truth is, I could eat five cheeseburgers and actually lose weight if I burned all those calories off plus some extra.  It's all about calorie intake versus calorie outtake and how YOUR body reacts to certain kinds of foods.

legacyme3 : I'm DYING to get older just for that. Although I'm heavier than you are (although I have a hard time gaining muscle), I'm still constantly sweating because of my high metabolism. Sleeping is hard year-round; I need a fan on to sleep better even during winter when room temperature is 60 F!
