Im kinda disappointed Linkums drawing didnt get more votes as it was the best one

mourinhosgum : I wouldn't say it was the best but it deserved a higher rank, I thought it was funny. Dahaka had the best submissions and you'd be lying if you said otherwise.

Davideo7 : Yeh I said it in a joking manner. Sad people didn't find it humorous as I had a good laugh at it

Davideo7 : I'll let you know how soon, and also I didn't think I'd get second place. Wow. Although There wasn't much competition this year.

Also, how can I receive the money (I don't have a credit card but I'll have to ask Mum.

I think this was really as many entries as you can expect. I don't really pay a ton of attention to the MEGA competitions, but with the knowledge money is on the line, some people (like me) don't bother, simply because the competition will be too intense to put any significant time into a contribution.

Like, I know I can't do better than what you put up (I'm not even close to an artist). I only compete in things when I think I have a feasible chance of winning (or at least placing high).

Art is one of my weaknesses. I have visions, but I don't have the talent to execute said visions, and no matter how much time I put into something, that never changes.

I imagine a large reason people didn't compete was for a similar reason. Too intense competition, and a lack of interest in doing art for the sake of doing art.

legacyme3 : Actually when money is on the line the competitions get way more participation. There have been so many competitions that have only had 1 or 2 participants and that's disappointing for me to invest time into hosting competitions that lack participation so I've been trying to come up with the budget to do more cash prizes.

Dahaka has actually competed in previous years and this is the first time this yearly competition had a cash prize. He probably would've done the same if there wasn't a cash prize.

legacyme3 : I think it works on the contrary, a cash prize promotes the participation, but even so I think the principal problem is the lack of time of the users, some are busy to compete, that's what I mean, users that participated in past years but not in recent.

And yes, David is right, for me is a pleasure to participate and contribute for this contest in special, and when I readed the rules I didn't expected a cash prize.

I don't doubt that. Speaking from personal experience as someone who "didn't" compete though, I'm offering my own viewpoint.

I didn't participate for the simple reason that I knew I wouldn't win, nor did I feel like playing a game I wasn't particularly interested in. I would imagine most of the people who didn't compete felt the same.

On the topic of cash money boosting participation, I don't doubt that. But when there is one or two cash prizes and halfway through the competition, it's clear that someone is going to win, people might be less enthused to participate

I don't think lack of time is a huge factor. People had a whole month to participate, and anyone who has been a user for much time at all knows competitions start early in the month, and go to the end of the month. If over a 30 day period, you can't find 10 minutes or an hour or something to put in a submission (like several people evidently did (I don't know how much effort Dahaka put in, but it was certainly more than an hour for each piece) as many of the submissions were largely average) then you are probably too busy to be on Vizzed to begin with.

I think a majority of people saw this competition, but either didn't care, or didn't think they had a half decent shot of placing.

legacyme3 : The other thing is time, a lot of users are busy this time of year. I also think the majority of users who are interested in competitions don't have the artistic skills necessary to rank high in these Mario Paint competitions. There were some great submissions in the past few years from other users though and I wish they would've competed this year.

rcarter2 : Did you ever get around to drawing anything this year? I know you said you were working on something but I never saw you submit anything.

Dahaka : You've received a lot of praise that you deserve to see for your submissions and the below comments were done in a private forum where the voting took place. I'll paste some of what users said here:


sop281 - Dahaka's are excellent.

sonikku - The above two entries ( "In the Mirror of your Eyes" and "Sacred Fates" ) are really good, with a lot of effort put into them. (In The Mirror of your Eyes took so long I had to delete the original from the site; apparently even with time limit restrictions lifted, 12 hours is too long.) This absolutely blows my expectations for what people can do in Mario Paint out of the water. Definitely deserving of 5 stars.

Eirinn - Wow. Dahaka did some impressive work there.
"The Chosen One" by Dahaka (The colors used for "Lighting effects" were just amazing here. And those background designs)
"In the Mirror of your Eyes" by Dahaka (This one looks professional quality, easy. Better than Nintendo ever did with SNES graphics. Again, great backgrounds)
"Sacred Fates" by Dahaka (More great color usage, and do I have to say the B word again?)

TornadoMudkip - Overall, nice submissions especially the ones of Dahaka. These pictures are an incredible piece of work!

Laian - Imagine my surprise when I saw Dahaka's work. No sarcasm here, I say "bravo". This is art with Mario Paint, seriously.

jtotherock23 - And it's been said already but Dahaka is a Mario paint wizard!

Yeah, that's also possible. October, I suppose, can be a busy month for students, but I mean, all months, outside of September and June are busy for students.

Davideo7 : Thank you David, I really appreciate it, I always try to improve my technique: lights and shadows, perspective, proportions, etc. Just to correct mistakes and do it better and better.
