There have been a few threads out there asking what's your favorite movie, but for this, I want you to list your favorite 5 movies in order of awesomeness, and tell a bit about why they are so awesome.

Here is my list.

1. The Day After Tomorrow (Awesome story, special effects, and drama/suspese)
2. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (Great acting by Robert Downey Jr. and spectacular music)
3. Edge of Tomorrow (Epic action and story)
4. Prisoners ( One of the best acting I have ever seen, and so much suspense and drama)
5. Transcendence ( Had to see this movie twice in same weekend. Great acting and story)

Well, those are my movies, what are your favorite 5.

1. The Lego Movie (The funniest movie I have ever seen. And the ending was absolutely brilliant.)
2. Spider-Man 2 (A strong story, great action, and good humor make this movie great. It's not just a superhero movie. It's a movie we can all relate to.)
3. Napoleon Dynamite (Ebert gave this 1 1/2 stars. I give it 4. It's a brilliantly funny movie that is misunderstood by too many people. It wasn't trying to be a blockbuster movie. It was just trying to make us laugh and feel.)
4. Pokemon the Movie 2000 (the music in this...so great. I want to do my own version of the music from this movie someday.)
5. This is a tough one...I might have to go with Ponyo here. The lack of violence in Ponyo was quite refreshing. And I preferred the art in Ponyo to that of Spirited Away. Ponyo is one of those movies that is much under-appreciated, along with many other of Hiyao Miyazaki's works.

1: Back to the Future. There's a certain charm to this movie. Maybe it's the great plot. Maybe the fantastic characters. Perhaps the epic premise. I may never truly know.
2: Rocky. It's a heart warming tale and a very interesting flick.
3. Spider-Man 3. No, this movie wasn't bad. It was actually pretty sweet. I loved the plot and the music, especially.
4. Safe House. It's a very cool movie with loads of action and some cool characters.
5. Raiders of the Lost Ark. This one's a classic. It's got great music, a great plot, and great characters.

supernerd117 : I do like Pokemon the Movie 2000, but if I made a list of favorite animated movies, I would have to put the very first Pokemon movie at the top of the list. I also liked some scenes from Spider-man 2, but the rest of the movies you listed don't interest me that much.

Boxia : Like I said to supsernerd concerning Spider-Man 2, I did like a few scenes from the 3rd movie. I really did like Back to the Future, especially the 1st one, and I would have to say that it's one of my favorite movies of the last century, along with Rocky, and a few others.

This is actually going to be a bit of a challenge for me.

1. Dumb and Dumber: One of the few movies I owned when I was very young. The humor was always funny, but as I got older and saw the movie again at a different age, the movie was funny for different reasons. As I grew, the funniness of the film grew with me. I have this movie nearly rehearsed line for line since Ive watched it so many times. Every once in a while, Ill give it another watch. It is also Jim Carey's greatest performance, as he was just the right amount of obnoxious and crazy, instead of too over the top, which he can be in some other films.

2. Rush Hour: The same circumstances as Dumb and Dumber with being one of the few movies I had when I was really young. It also grew on me more as I got older and watched it over again. The combination of Chris Tucker's obnoxious overconfidence and Jackie Chan's subtleness and intense skill made them a very unique combination, as they were very much the opposites of one another, which made for a perfect balance of hilariousness and awesome skill and action. Again, I know this film almost line for line.

There is a wide gap between my top 2 films and ones that come afterwards, and they could really go in any order, depending on what mood Im in.

3. Monster's Inc.: I was not quite as young when I got this movie compared to the first 2 mentioned, but Monster's Inc. was definitely a part of my childhood. The movie has so much heart and character, which is incredibly impressive since it is an animation. The story line, the characters, the cleverness; it was all very well put together. I should mention that I am a sucker for pixar/dreamworks movies.

4. The Lord of the Rings trilogy: I cannot separate these movies into 3 individual films because its all one massively well put together story. I also marathoned them all consecutively one day. I absolutely have such an appreciation for the thought put into ever scene and every line. The action and scenery were so perfect. It is a very long watch if you plan on marathoning this trilogy, but it was so worth it.

5. The Strangers: Yes, a horror movie. The best one Ive ever seen. I was so cleverly creepy and amazingly unsettling. I am glad this movie was not a slasher because that kind of takes away from the horror feeling that I look for when watching a horror film. It was one of those mess with your heads kind of films, and one that was very jumps and caught you off guard many times. A definite must watch if you are into horror films.

I have no particular order but my favorite movies of all time are as follows:

1.  Fight Club.  I loved the movie, I loved the book more and I think it tells a great story that helps men of all generations find something inside themselves to get themselves to where they want to be.  I take strength from that movie and ideology in the book.  Read it, kids.

2.  Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.  This is a classic comedy with a brilliant mind showing how humor works.  It's a great movie, good for a laugh, and I love it.

3.  The Hunt for Red October.  This is my drama/suspense semi-action movie in the list.  Sean Connery is excellent, Sam Neill is excellent, the entire cast does well and it is a wonderful movie.

4.  Talladega Nights: Ricky Bobby.  This is another pure genius example of humor and fun.  The story is great, the jokes are great, it's a hilarious movie with over the top comedy.

5.  Office Space.  This is a perfect take on what corporate America can really be like.  I love the movie and I think it captures the spirit of the U.S. business world perfectly.

Mine
 1. The Matrix Reloaded.
          - The effects were top notch for the time except for that Neo action figure fight with all those Smiths
          - More clarity of the story
2. Terminator 2- Judgement Day
          - The effects were groundbreaking for the time
          - The storyline was thought provoking
          - The Sarah Connors scene screaming at the fence. (scared me for life in a good way)
 3. Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey
          - Hilariously better than the first one
          - The Hell scenes were a little sad to me
          - Battle of the Bands fight scene. (pure corniness but still pleasing)
4. What Dreams May Come
          - Robin Williams and possibly the best depiction of Dante's Hell in a movie
5. The Never-ending story
          - Don't ask why
