Censor ship in anime,is it truly necessary?

(Oh just a warning before you go in,if you don't like grammar,your not going to like this post.Also this is going to be a long one,so if your eyes can't take staring at a screen and reading forever..You may want to back out now.)

Now i must admit that i did not ask myself this question until i watched episode 11 of Tokyo Ghoul.For those who don't know- (And chances are that none of you know,as i have never talked about this.)

Tokyo Ghoul is an anime that came out a month or two ago.It is an adaptation of one of my FAVORITE manga's of all time.I love the characters,the setting,the story,and basically everything about it.The anime however..Okay.It's pretty sloppy in comparison.Why? Because it cuts so much of the manga out.It's a 12 episode series,that is an adaptation of over 10 books..Chances our its not going to go to well.

And that brings up a bigger question,should something have an adaptation when the original source material is not even finished? Well that's a question for another day.

What i specifically wanted to talk about today was the topic of censorship in anime.You see,i don't care about how sloppy the anime adaptation of Tokyo Ghoul is,I AM JUST ANNOYED AT HOW MUCH IT CENSORS EVERYTHING! I cannot get over this no matter how much i try,why not use your "Mature Adult rating" to the fullest extent? Well i decided to do a bit of research on the topic.

For those who don't know anime in the west from 1990 to about 2004 was always censored to some extent if they found that it could be "Harmful" To a young audience.

I believe you all get the point.Anyhow lets try to understand it.A popular argument among censorship for most pulbishers is that the anime in question can be seen by a young audience.

..Duh.That's not the point.The show in question is not aimed at them.That is not your fault,it's the parents or legal guardian.You think my parents sued the comic book store owner when i was a kid because i picked up an issue of Spawn while i was browsing stuff? No.Sure,i can understand Shonen like Naruto,Bleach,One Piece,Soul Eater,D.Gray Man.(The list goes on to the thousands,lets stop here.)-

Being censored,but that's because it aims at an audience that is 8-20.Why censor something that is specifically Mature adult? There has to be something else that i'm missing here.There has to be some reason that this show is censored..

Uh..Lets see..AH.Funimation has the license to Tokyo ghoul,and they are known for censoring some stuff.They hold the license for some of the most popular anime of all time.So i guess that answers...Wait,it still doesn't answer the question,why?

Two words.

Hellsing Ultimate.

This baby right here is a prime example of contradiction on Funimations part.Hellsing Ultimate is my favorite anime of all time,and my second favorite manga of all time.And this girl right here (Picks up Hellsing volume)

Does not care about you,or anyone else.It's bloody,gory,and it has no remorse for anyone that is reading it.To quote Jinx from league of legends-

"I'm trying to care..But i just can't"

There are plenty of other shows owned by Funimation that back this argument up to.Now then,before we turn back the topic of censorship in anime,allow me to talk about censorship in manga.

...There is none.Seriously though.Censorship in manga is little to none.It's near extinction.And unlike the topic at hand,the question to why there is no censorship in manga is very simple.It's original.When a manga comes out the author has full control over nearly everything about it.Basically 90% author-10% editor that funds and mentors you.

However,lets say that your manga gets big,so big that a big license wants to make an anime adaptation out of it? There is a bit of a trade off there.

On one hand its obvious that an anime adaptation will increase the sales of your manga,but you won't be able to control the anime at all.The people who bought your materiel will be able to completely control how the anime plays out.And you will be confined to the books.

That's basically how a deal goes.Evidence for this is obvious everywhere in nearly every mainstream culture.Just look at shows like game of thrones,and movies like lord of the rings.Where the books can be completely different from the adaptation.Overall i don't believe i can find an answer without more research.So lets just end this discussion.

As i do believe i have said basically everything i needed to say here,so now to end this little Rant/discussion.I would like to ask you-the reader a question.

Do you believe it's okay to censor certain anime if it may be harmful to a younger audience? If you do,then why?

Anyhow that is going to be it for me.Please excuse my dreadful grammar,as i am an idiot.Guess i'll get back to complaining about how much of the manga the Tokyo Ghoul anime cuts out,see yah.

No Touka,i don't want 35% of an arm.Especially when the rest of it is covered in a shroud..

1. Censorship is bad
2. Censorship should die off
3. People worried about the "safety of children" are foolish
4. Ban censorship

It is never necessary.
