Is Rayman Legends a possibility? It's an amazing co-op game, and is a blast to play. I prefer it over the New Super Mario Bros. games most of the time.

Guacamelee! is another fantastic co-op game, if you guys are on the same wavelength and skill level.

But of course, these are both local co-op games, which aren't possible if you and your friend are playing online games instead.

I'd suggest Trine and Trine 2 for online co-op if you are playing on a computer. They're both fantastic puzzle/platformer games that are a blast to play.

I'd also suggest Monaco: What's Yours is Mine. It's a fun heist game in 2D. Some reviewers have even called it the greatest co-op game of all time.
