Do you think that Zelda games aren't released often enough?

It's a simple question with a simple answer.

I would have to say yes, except that they are too similar to really release all the time.

They would have to make the games more different for more releases to really count for something.

I do. I've hated it for a long time now that they seem to release one or at best two games a generation (at least it seems that way to me). But yes, they do need to make more changes to them so it doesn't feel like the same old thing every time.

Bear in mind, I really came in on the series with Wind Waker and followed that with Twilight Princess; both games departed from the series in significant ways and both were different one from another. Prior to this I had only played the original as a very small child and a pirated mobile phone version of the original (which was actually considerably better). So variety was what I expected from Zelda games.

Then I played some others (that I won't list because they're beloved classics) and...yeah they seemed so similar that it made it a lot less addictive. Now I'm on the fence about calling myself a Zelda fan, despite some of them being on my favorite games list.

Eirinn :

yeah, that's pretty much it for me too.

I only really cling to Zelda 1, Zelda 2, OOT, MM. . . and then I like TP for basically being a next gen remaster of OOT. XD

Unless we get something like this then I don't really see a reason to continue making more Zeldas any more often then they already do.

(Please read this, I know you'll like how's it's TP.)

Honestly, I'd rather wait. The problem with wanting new games all the time is that it becomes what I call 'NSMB Syndrome'. They don't have the time to make something unique out of it, so they rehash the same game over and over again, and then slap 'New' in the title. I'd hate for the same thing to happen to Zelda.
I'll admit, I cling to even less Zelda games than you guys do (MM, WW, and ST), but I enjoy that at least every game FEELS at least somewhat different, even if it's just a slight change in story. If it takes time for them to do it? I say let them take that time.
I'd rather wait than have OoT over, and over, and over again.

Gamin'Gal : That's a good point too. Though I do think they should be able to put out a new story every couple of years and just tweak the previous engine a little, replacing some scripts and it would be enough. However, we definitely don't want them running on this yearly release cycle that EA Sports uses which literally gives us a very few script changes (the QB now bends his fingers when he hands the ball off! sort of stuff) and some slightly updated graphics.

So yeah, I think they could put them out faster without compromising quality, but it is better to get them slowly than to keep getting the same ones over and over. Heck, sometimes I feel like that's what we're getting even with the long wait periods. Oh, and TP is the only official Zelda game that I really cling to, although Minish cap isn't bad. And that pirated game was awesome. xD

Sword - Yeah, Nintendo needs to tap into the huge potential that the Zelda series has. I'm hoping they do with the new Zelda title. If they really do go open world like they're saying, it should free us from a lot of the series' vices.

Sword legion : yep I noticed that. I hate that cause normally it's like 2 years each Zelda game. Except SS took the longest development so far. Perhaps Zelda Wii U will be longer!
