Alright, so similar to my "Earn 100 viz" thread I made back when I was a newbie, this is a sports quiz thread, which features only sports questions. A good portion of the questions will focus around NBA and NFL, since those are the main sports I watch, but questions about other sports will appear too, so keep that in mind as well.

Now how much Viz will you receive? Each question will be worth 100, 200, 300, or 500 viz, depending on the difficulty of the question.

Now for some rules before we start.

RULES

1) You cannot answer two consecutive questions. You are allowed to give an answer to every other question. This is to give other users a chance to answer a question and a small preventative measure against spam.

2) You can answer a maximum of three questions in a single day.

3) Do not complain that you didn't receive Viz. All Viz will be rewarded within a 24 hour time span.

Who won the Super Bowl last year?

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He's got like.. 38 thousand something points. 

I'm going with Wilt Chamberlain. He put up 100 in Philadelphia once and played every minute of every game for however many years.

warmaker : I'm afraid that Wilt Chamberlain is not the correct answer. While he does hold the record for the most points in a single game (100), he is only 5th all-time in scoring (he scored approximately 31.5K points). Good guess though.

Next Question: How many championships have the New York Yankees won?

This is an easy one for me, as I am a Yankees fan. The New York Yankees have won 27 championships, their last one being in 2009. Their manager Joe Girardi's number on his jersey was 27 en route to their most recent championship. His number is now 28.

Next Question: What was the last hockey team to come back from a 3-0 deficit and win the championship, and what year did they do it?

The thing that sucks is these are all easily answerable by googling.  I don't know the answer and I looked it up.  If anyone comes up with it easily and says they just knew it from sports lore.... I'm throwing a flag.

LA Kings did it this year. They were down 3-0 to the sharks, but they stormed back and not only won the series, but knocked off stacked teams in Anaheim and Chicago. They then defeated a rather disappointing new York rangers team to win the cup in 5 games.

The last hockey team to come back from a series where they were down 3-0 previous to this happened not long ago when the Philadelphia flyers came back to defeat the Boston bruins in 7 games. The flyers made a run to the cup finals, but lost in overtime of game 6 to the Chicago blackhawks, who was the longest running nhl franchise to have a cup drought at the time. This record now belongs to the Toronto maple leafs.

I believe returning from a 3-0 series deficit to win occurred a couple years ago in the ohl as well. I dont believe that team won the championship though.

bobq : Unfortunately, thats incorrect. When I said championship, I was referring to the Stanley Cup.

I knew it had happened once, and I knew (or think I know) it was also the first and only time to date it happened. I also remembered who won (but not who lost :s).

But I forgot the year.

It was somewhere around 1940-1950, and it was the Maple Leafs who won it.

I believe to date it is the only occurrence of a 3-0 deficit being overcome in the Stanley Cup Final.

legacyme3 : You are correct. The Maple Leafs came back to beat the Red Wings after falling behind 3-0 way back in 1942. That is the only time in NHL history a team has come back from 3-0 down to win the Stanley Cup Final.

Next Question: Who has the highest betting average in a single season after the year 1950, and what was his batting average?

Is it Ted Williams? I had to google his batting average for the season I was thinking of (not that big a nerd). In 1957, he batted .388/.526/.731/1.257. Yes. He got on base 52.6% of the time in that season, and proved why even at the age of 38, he's one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

As for your response, the answer is no actually. There is one person who had a better batting average after 1950 (but Ted Williams is a good guess).

But I will need two responses in order to be able to post again, so unless I get two responses, I wont be able to award a user the Viz should they get the answer correct.

I'll respond here because I technically didn't follow the rules. If I had followed the rules, then MMM would be able to post right now.

I'll go somewhere around 24 or so.


I know for sure the Tampa Bay Bucs did it when they went forever without winning anything and finally beat the Detroit Lions.  I'm surprised another team tied them for losing so many in a row.

Cavs and Sixers are up there in the NBA the past two years.

Phillies got up to 20 sometime in the 60s for baseball.

I have no idea for hockey.  Anaheim Ducks when they first started were terrible.

I still think my answer was correct, as you did not state that the 3-0 series was not overcome in the stanley cup finals.

Based on the wording coming back from a 3-0 deficit can occur in any round during the playoffs and of course if the deficit is not overcome, then they would obviously be out of the series. Im still convinced that my answer is correct due to your vagueness.



Anyway, the san jose sharks and washing capitals were absolutely a joke in their first few season in the nhl, so I think those are the 2 teams that hold the record for consecutive losses. Im going to throw a guess out there and say 30 straight losses. Im pretty sure those two teams hold the record for the nhl. I dont know about other sports.



I looked up the answer and mine is wrong. san jose and washington are tied for the longest nhl losing streaks, but other sports had longer streaks.

I thought I would post this thing I found which I thought was hilarious.
