Yes, that day draws near. The first day of high school. For years I've dreaded the four-year-long super-sized building merely a block away.
But is it really something to fear? How was your first day of high school? I watch a lot of television and feel like they put in a lot of false stereotypes, so tell me what it's really like.

You can say it's something to fear because everyone is taller and it's a more aggressive environment compared to primary school, the teachers won't be there all the time to stop you getting bullied between classes or on the school yard and if you're going there without knowing anyone then it's going to be harder to make friends if you're not part of any cliqués or anything.

But hey, just go at it like you've got nothing to lose - you'll see who's your friend and who isn't :3

Okay, let me break it down:

1/4 of the school will be freshmen.  They are as awed and intimidated by the space and size of the bigger building with all the other kids, teachers, rooms, the fear of getting lost, the tougher classes, and so on and so forth.  They'll be so busy running around trying to get their own lives figured out, they'll generally leave everyone else alone.  They're in your same spot.

1/4 will be seniors.  They're graduating, they have their cliques and their friends and they don't care about some runty 9th graders who are wandering around.  They'll be thinking college, jobs, military, whatever else they have going on along with their jobs and the things they do after school.  They won't think about you.

The other 1/2 are sophomores and juniors who are too busy thinking about themselves, worrying about themselves, thinking about college entrance tests, sports teams, groups, and all that.  They won't worry about you either.

In a nutshell, no one else cares about anyone else the first few days.  You'll make friends and you'll find people and things are great.  School is fun and the first day is nothing to be worried about.  Nothing happens.  They have to make it dramatic in tv and movies because.... it's not dramatic.  It's a day at school.

Join clubs and groups that interest you and you'll find upper classmen who will help and show you around.  They'll be your friends.

From my experience, high school isn't really something to fear. I mean sure you have to explore a lot and people seem intimidating but that's just a first impression. Once you get used to knowing your school, it doesn't seem so bad.

Freshmen year (or what I call freshmeat year) is basically just the year where you start exploring yourself, surroundings, and the people around you. Also, it's the time to get an idea of the people to know who to trust/hang out with or not.

High school is usually that time where you get to explore yourself especially there are many groups and cliques. Do not get intimidated by peer pressure because the odds are that those type of people won't stick by you in the future. Be yourself and do your best to not get involved with unnecessary problems and drama since that's a way to get you off guard.

Your future is what is important to you and in order to work that up, try your best to balance yourself with trying your best to get good grades and do some extra-curricular activities based on your interests (clubs, teams, volunteering, work, and etc). Colleges love to see people who are balanced.

As long as you stick to your own business and stick with the right people, you should be fine. Same with trying to build your own barrier of independence in high school (since in high school, there are always those people who try to use you since they rely on others way too much).
 

In my experience, I was a little scared of high school, too. The things you see on TV are in fact false stereotypes. Don't let any of those things scare you. As long as you mind your own business and focus on your work, you should be just fine. I was in ROTC all 4 years and also played football. I guess you could say that most people just stayed away from me. The only thing that should worry you the most is your schoolwork.

Your freshman year in high school will seem like it goes by forever. The farther you get in high school, the quicker the years will go by. Before you know it, you'll be a senior thinking about college (if you want to go to college). Try to get the most out of these years, as they will probably be the best 4 years of your life.

Don't worry about it, warmaker summed it up pretty nicely, most of the juniors and seniors are to preoccupied with other things to bother you. As long as you aren't a loudmouth and say things that will get you in trouble, you should be fine. 

The best thing to do is to make a group of friends and hang out with them whenever you can, it will help make you more comfortable and used to the high school environment, plus it will make the day go by faster. Try to get involved in some after school clubs or activities if you can (you don't have to), not only does it look good on a college application, but it can help you in becoming acquainted with high school. 

Freshman year for me was pretty fun and I was actually mistaken for a sophomore several times. Speaking of which, high school will go by very fast, it felt like just yesterday I set foot in my new school and now I am already a junior. The bottom line is that you should enjoy your time in high school, it will go by too fast for you to be scared, just enjoy it because soon enough you will be moving on to bigger things! All I can say is have fun and make memories... 

First day of Highschool for me was boring. I did nothing the whole day and I was not worried about it. All that happened was hello i'm you're (insert subject here) teacher nice to meet you etc. Though I think it was due to the fact that in Scotland we get induction days where we go to Highschool for a week months before summer just to get used to being in Highschool. None of the older years give a toss about you when you are in you First years of high school. If you go out of your way to annoy them then you have a problem. Over here The Seniors are annoying during winter because they chase the "freshmen"/1st years and dump them in the snow and bury them.
