So, today, I had my very first driving lesson! After procrastinating far too long in getting my permit, it arrived in the mail yesterday, and today I took the car out for a spin with my father, out on some old country roads where nobody bothers driving except some teenagers all going fifteen miles per hour.

And then I drove the car home. My sister asked if it was me who parked, and I responded, "Yes, that's why it's crooked in the driveway."

I was wondering what your first driving lessons were like. Did your heart feel like it was going to explode (mine did a million times over)? Did you either stop entirely before turns or go too quickly (me again), or somehow have a complete inability to keep the car from drifting right?

And above all... did you like it?

Congrats on your permit!

I remember feeling like I had no idea what I was doing on that first drive. There was definitely some drifting right, and I needed work on smoothly braking, but thankfully it went all right. Didn't destroy anything.

My I-actually-like-this moment didn't happen until I started driving on 55+ mph zones and the 70+ mph freeway. The speed feels incredible.

I've got to give it you, having your first lesson on an old country road sounds pretty darn impressive. Stay safe, and good luck on (eventually) your license!

Congratulations on getting your permit!

My driving lessons went smoothly, for the most part. It was actually other drivers' actions that were my biggest problem (Like throwing waterballoons full of paint, swerving, not using their lights at all at night...). Well, outside backing in to park anyway. Which I honestly only needed to do for the test.

During my first few times driving, my heart felt like it was going to explode. I was extremely nervous, but somehow I took to it pretty naturally. I blame Mario Kart for that sometimes. And, I never really used the gas when making turns, then for a small bit I went through turns too fast.

But, I love driving! Not so much the expensive gas though. But, I have my Driver's License now! If even I can do it, I know for sure you can. Good luck!

My first lesson was a bit of a nightmare. I went through my neighbourhood during the winter and ended up hugging the side so much that I got stuck in a snow drift XD Plus, I went super slow, and was paranoid about everything. My turns were way too wide as well.
To be honest, I could easily feel my heart beat and I hated driving for a good while.
While I'm better and have actually gone on the highway a couple times, it's still not my favourite thing. Too much to watch out for. It's still sort of cool, though, so there's that.

My first driving experience was ridiculously embarrassing. I didn't drive any faster than 15 miles an hour, and my turns were so unbelievably slow that I'm surprised that a car didn't ram right into me.

My driving is a lot better now than it was earlier (even though its a pain driving family members around), but I still have quite a way to go.

Congrats on getting your permit, and good luck with your driving lessons.

My first thought: Procrastination on the permit? You're 15. It took me 2 months after my 16th birthday to get mine, but you have to be 16 to actually get a permit, but I put off on my driving for a full year, and it expired and now I'm playing catch-up. Congratulations though!

My first lesson went extremely well. I did not do horrible with the exception of the time I zoned out for a straight fifteen seconds. I was rather lucky though as I managed to not hit anyone despite running two stop signs (woo, that could have been baaaaaad). I went at a normal pace the entire time. I did not seem to be as worried as you were. I still did not like it though. To be honest, driving bores me to death.

Regardless, good luck on your future of driving.

sop281 : It must be different where you live. Here we can get permits at 15, not 16. I have to wait a year for my license, though. Thank you, though!

megamanmaniac : When I turned, I either stopped completely or nearly ended up in a ditch. We had a conversation that went something like this: Dad- "Why are you stopping at every turn?" Me- "Because you keep saying I go so fast." Dad- "Okay, then. Let's try taking your foot off the acceleration instead of slamming the brakes. You're not going that fast, so..." At the next turn, my dad had to take the wheel at the last minute, or I would've gone into a ditch. Thanks for sharing your story.

Gamin'Gal : I was afraid I'd get stuck in a ditch, but I didn't actually. That sounds pretty bad... I'm sorry about that! Thanks for telling me. As for driving family members around, my brother begged to sit in during my lessons, and I flat-out refused. Their simple presence stresses me out.

A user of this : Why on earth would a driver throw water balloons full of paint? And did you take your test yet?

EideticMemory : Thank you! I am psyched to try the freeway since I heard it is easier than city driving, but I am obviously not ready for that yet, and the idea of merging into traffic scares me silly.

Dragonlord Stephi : I honestly have no idea. There are some crazy people here. To be honest it's happened before. lol And, yes, I finished my test. I'm a licensed driver now.

No need to feel sorry. I actually like to think about how far I've come now.
Just don't be an idiot and look out for idiots coming and you'll be fine at everything but parking (I still can't park to save my life XD)

The first time I drove was driver's Ed, but the guy never told me anything. I honest to goodness learned how to drive by playing video games. Anyways, he did not have to tell me anything, but he sure did like to use the brake they have if I got close to 5 MPH under the speed limit. Anyways, after that, I drove with my Dad to go get my learner's, since I had to have that before I could get my license in North Carolina. I got my license 2 weeks later.
