I swear... every time I do a load of laundry, I loose at least one sock. And it is never the sock that doesn't have a sock to match it... it is always a sock that has a matching one.

I swear this happens... maybe once out of every 3 or 4 washing days.

Does anybody else suffer from "The Sock Tax"?

Local Mods : I looked for a thread like this here in Cafe Corner over in General Chat, but couldn't find anything. If there one, or you feel this in the wrong place, please move it.

Yea, I suffer from the "sock tax" as well. I always lose socks. Most of the time my socks don't match because I can't find the other one.
And by the way, you don't need to summon the local mods to every single thread that you make. If it needs to be moved they will find it and move it on their own.

Hehe. I don't really suffer from this 'Sock Tax' thing at all, although it seems like a common thing. A book called 'The New Policeman' by Kate Thompson actually has a theory on what happens to these socks. The book may be a little childish for you... But it does have an answer!

I think EVERYONE suffers from this. XD If someone claims not to, I'm going to go ahead and accuse them of dishonesty. haha.  Like thing1 said... it's not an issue of matching troubles... it's an issue of them simply disappearing! I've never lived in large households, and at times, I have literally washed ALL my laundry at once... I mean I've looked in all the corners, pulled everything off my hangers and out of my drawers... and washed it all.  ( I know that sounds crazy, but I think even after sitting around for a while, things get dirty and dusty.  So every now and then, this should be done, I think.)


And when I do this kind of washing?  Those socks still don't turn up....

Singelli : Finally somebody that understands my pain. I bought 2 packs of socks about a year ago. I had 22 pairs at that time, about 8 of them being ankle socks. I now have 1 pair of ankle socks, and 5 other socks. That means I have 6 full pairs. I also have 3 socks that do have matches.

I do my own laundry, and I always make sure everything is there. The only time I can't find a sock is when someone takes my clothing before I have a chance to get to it. I have a younger brother who just loves taking my clothing, even though he has lots of stuff to wear.

Yeah it really bugs me, apparently they slip into the dryer or washing machine because there is a small gap that's large enough for socks and other small objects to slip in and stay for eternity.
