It seems the kids and really most of everyone but the youth more so has their heads up their butts. They are apathetic about everything and so content to be like everyone else and to only do what they "should".  It seems nothing matters any more and no one stands for anything. Does anyone feel the same way, are you guys seeing what I am seeing?

I feel the same way; I go to a high school full of people with kindergarten mentalities.
I've lost faith in humanity way too long ago so it's not surprising to me anymore when I see bratty brats doing dumb crud every day.
It's like someone just took a bucket full of chivalry, common sense, and patience, poured it out the window, and replaced it with twerking and swag.

Maybe you're looking in the wrong environment.  I work at a YMCA, a Christian non-profit, and we have youth volunteers who always help out and do it without getting paid.  They build playgrounds, they coach and teach young kids, they participate and they are from all ethnicities, all religions, all backgrounds.
They want to be a part of something bigger and they are.

These are kids who are 14 years and older and they want to belong to something that motivates them and gets them some real life experience.  It's fun to see the kids develop, go off to school, come back motivated and ready to learn and create and do more.

Some places don't have that.  Many places do.  You'd be surprised at the volunteerism and activity generated by kids nowadays.  Young kids love to learn and explore and older kids want to have a place to go to be better.  Teachers may not find the right things to fire them up but we certainly do.

I think the youth and this up and coming generation is impressive.  They are wonderful and they use technology without any problem.  We have some great kids and they'll be leaders of tomorrow.

warmaker : Seems as if you are just getting a good strain of kids. The vast majority I see are very impressionable, and they follow exactly what society tells them to do. It is pretty sad, and also frustrating. I cannot get them to like other things. As much as I want some of my friends to like the stuff that I do, they just refuse to do it. It feels horrible. Of course, there are some kids willing to go against the societal normals, and there are also those who are proactive and do volunteer work, but they are in the vast minority.

GenesisJunkie : I feel your pain. It is happening everywhere, but not so much apathy. I see very little apathy. People take up what society likes, and they like what society likes, but I see few apathetic people. I am pretty apathetic towards many things, myself, and I see very few others acting in the manner that I do. Apathy != Seeking to be like everyone else.

Don't even get me started on this because I haven't the slightest clue what is wrong with people these days. I am so weary of all of the ignorant imbeciles that go to my school, their appearance, their actions, what they say and do, and also just their presence is enough to drive me insane. So many of my fellow peers at school refuse to learn and they prolong the rest of the class from doing so. I have to put up with it for 2 more miserable years...lucky me.

They are so busy being ignorant and throwing their life away by taking selfies and getting drunk or twerking or whatever else, and they simply don't put forth the effort to learn or excel in school. That is why I have few friends, because most of the people in my school love to just wallow in ignorance when they really just need to wake up and smell the fresh air already. I'm sure they will find it out the hard way when they throw their opportunities in high school and college out the window and resort to working at fast food places. It is quite sad really. I'm afraid I'll probably lose my composure if I discuss this any further. I find a lot of the things my peers do at school to be nothing short of revolting.

The good thing is that there are those that try and wish to succeed in life, we really need more of those people.....

I have to agree with that statement but I'd like to add something. First and foremost even though it should go without the need of saying so, we're generalizing here, of course there are exceptions to that rule (why would anyone question it otherwise), but those are minor in comparison to the vast majority.

That being said, in my view the world has always been like that, what changed is the position you're at, as in how much can you see NOW that you simply couldn't before. Now we have sophisticated technology that allows us to be aware of our world/society as a whole, but that's available to the majority of the humanity... and the majority of anything usually tends to draw more attention to them. That situation just became more easily recognized as an issue, leading to a more noticeable impact on everyone's lives as it's growing exponentially faster than it was before. Now humanity again has improved the ability to share more things, with more people, in more places. Unfortunately, this is a double-edged knife, as it makes easier to recognize the issues around us and their status, while also contributing to it's growth ratio since the issue here are people themselves.

mvhupsel : In the past it seemed youth was always angry and willing to fight and kick down any wall they could. In the 60's you had the hippies, 70's-late 80's the Punk movement was going strong. The Skinheads for a long time too but all culture has went away. All we are left is the mainstream accepted cultures and they are very few. When ghetto trash is the main american culture you know there is a problem.

You are very right though, we are not talking about every single person. Not everyone has their head up their butt, just the hoi polloi but to me it seems worse than ever.

Here is what is wrong with people these days in my opinion.

First of all, I am a Christian, so I believe that we have lost a sense of morality in today's society. My pastor said it best we have generation coming up that does not know God or does not believe in him. The result is we are losing a sense of morality. People are doing horrible things to people with no remorse.

Second, parents are not being parents anymore. What I mean is parents are not teaching their kids morale values and manners. Parents are not involved with their children anymore or their lives. I know some parents that still are involved in their children's lives, but for the most part a lot of parents are not.

Third, evil is being called good and good is being called evil. The media is a huge influence especially in young people's lives. Kids get messages from songs and shows. The bad thing is today's songs have messages about doing horrible things to people, But again that goes back to parents not being parents and explaining that it is just entertainment. But the media seems to glorify violence in songs, movies and shows.

So to sum it up, these are the things I think is what is wrong with society today and what is wrong with people, no sense of morality, evil being called good, and no parent guidance

tornadocam : I totally disagree with that. The gangsters on the street killing believe in your Christian god, the mob is Catholic and we all know what they did/do. I live in the bible belt, most people around here worship the Christian god yet don't follow what their book teaches. Morality isn't what you read in a book or what somebody tells you is or isn't right. It is what YOU feel is right or wrong.

I have to agree with most of tornadocam said, saving the implication that a belief in God boosts moral and individuality. I do believe a proper belief in God in a society will do good things for it's morality, but the truth is, most people that believe in God don't observe the Bible's teachings. Take Anton Levay for example: the man believed in God, yet he founded satanism and even summoned devils to battle each other according to some people. That man was about as evil as evil gets, despite believing in God.

"Second, parents are not being parents anymore." I could not possibly agree with this any more. I hear people all the time saying "kids these days". It isn't kids that have changed, it's parents. Kids are born the same way they've always been born, and they've always tried to push their parents as far as they could, they've always tried to see how much they could get by with, and they've always acted out if they could get away with it. Parents these days just don't try to teach their kids that they can't act that way, or they shouldn't be rude, lie, throw tantrums, etc. The parents that didn't raise their children right 500 years ago ended up with brats that became rude obnoxious apathetic citizens just like so many kids today are.

But now for the big kicker: MEDIA. The media is ruining the kids in so many ways. They teach them to do drugs, be dishonest, hurt anyone to get whatever it is that they want, and now I'm even seeing messages on Television telling us that something is wrong with us if we aren't having sex with everyone we can. But that isn't even the worst part; they're telling us what we are and what we think, and what we want, and what we do, based on our age, race, and gender.

Who am I? I'm an honest guy who tries to be nice and helpful to everyone. I'm a goofball, and I live to make people smile. I'm a twenty-six year old man that watches nothing but cartoons, family shows, and Psych, I also love Disney Fairy movies (yes, Tinkerbell, Rosetta, Vydia, and the rest of the little girl movie fairies).

Who does society (media) tell me I am? As a white male in his mid to late twenties, I am supposed to be a player who jumps in bed with every female I can get with, goes to bars and gets drunk on the weekends, is self centered, and throws rowdy parties.

I have never partied, taken a drink of an alcoholic beverage, had sex (yes, kids, it's okay to save yourself for marriage), or even stepped foot in a bar parking lot.

The media makes me sick, quite honestly. I have to share this song about the matter:

Eirinn : Oh man, I didn't think I could disagree with you more. You are my friend but I totally disagree. The belief in a god seems to bring people apart and give them a reason not to care about how life is now. What I am saying is, a person that worships a god and thinks they will go to a nice place when they die can so "well life sucks now, I hate my job, the government and my boss is taking advantage of me but that is okay because when I die I will go to a magical place.". I have seen a lot of people that just bury their heads and never do nothing because they think they will get a nice afterlife and everyone that does them wrong will go to a bad place.

Now on the media. Every news station I have seen is the opposite. The news all but says if you are not a rich, white, republican, christion, then you are a terrorist. The news is ran by big business and is all propaganda. They spin stories to look good for then and bad for anyone that don't think the same why they do. Media makes me sick (so we are the same on that) but for a totally different reason.

I can totally respect that. I would be a hypocrite not to, given what I said about the media.

As for the Christian thing, we're actually on the same page there. That's what I was getting at: people that act like you described believe in God, but do the opposite of what the Bible actually teaches them. I agree that people like that only serve to make society worse than it already is, and we would all be better off if they didn't believe at all. Believing in God has nothing to do with whether you're a good person or not, and I know atheists that make society a far better place. No, a lack of believing in God isn't what is destroying the world, it's a lack of following the moral code that's placed in all of us, which quite honestly is what the Bible teaches anyway. It's common knowledge that we shouldn't hurt people, and we should get along with others.

I apologize if I came across as saying anything else.

GenesisJunkie :

I totally agree with you last post.

To many Christians are content with whatever is going on right now, and are like "well, it'll be better in Heaven."

God put us on the earth for a reason! People say all that matters is you get to heaven, and get others too heaven.

That may be important, but that's not all of it. We are supposed to care about what goes on right now, on our home planet.

An easy example:

How much time you spend telling people about Christ?

How much time do you spend working?

Notice that God did not make a world where we can just talk all the time, yep, that's right, you have to work.

"Heal the world." That is what the Jews teach that our purpose is on this world. I for one would like to make a great PC game. . . and use the money for great purposes. Plus I work with my dad, so I'm healing the world that way as well.

*post gets disliked cause I have an enemy here.

Sword legion : I agree other than the telling people about Christ. I hate people that don't keep their religion to themselves. When those people come to my door with their little papers talking all their stuff, I spit at them and slam the door in their face ( I have told them a million times to not come to my house). The only Christ I want to hear about is Jesus Christ Allin.

If anyone has a god, good, you can believe in what ever you want but have something to stand up for other than just that. Don't let a god be who you are.

"Don't let a god be who you are."

True, think for yourself, and if you want answers, then seek for them. Don't just do whatever you're told and let whatever you're told make up your identity. I don't care what someone believes. I only care if they want to back it up.

As for evangelising, I don't mind it on the streets, but going door to door may be a bit invasive.

Sword legion : It is more of respect kind of thing for me. I keep that kind of stuff to myself on less I am asked and I think everyone should do the same. I think of people preaching out in public would be the same as me walking around handing out pictures of very graphic nude art then saying to someone that got offended "its art, you are just a prude or over sensitive.". That is just the way I see it.
