RMJEtheReploid : To be honest I don't know for sure but I can offer proof in the near future. Right now I'm beating Megaman X4 and I record all my battles with the robot masters and me beating each of their stages, as well as taking screen shots. After I beat Megaman X4(which will be soon considering I have four bosses left) I will play through and beat Megaman X5 and I will personially record the game and take screen shots of all events, and boss battles and I'll either post the answer to your question here or private message you the footage or screen shot. 

(on a side note if you don't want to wait on me you could google this question)

I think whoever told you that is a little confused. You can save Zero from going maverick in X5. What you need to do is collect the parts for the shuttle assuming the laser mission fails. If you collect all the parts to the shuttle, the shuttle mission will succeed. Thus Zero will not go maverick, which is supposedly to be canon in this game. The canon is that Zero does not go maverick and the space colony is destroyed.. Now, Zero's ending will still be the same regardless. Zero acts like he dies. 

Spoilers in Mega Man X6 we learn that Zero was severely damaged but he hid himself. X6, tells how Zero healed himself and returns (if found ) to fight beside X as usual.

tornadocam : I have been throwing drat at Mega man enemies so he must be Dizzy by now 3 and i also heard that in Rock man X6 (the Japanese version of mega man X6) Zero doesn't know how he survived (if i got that correct)
