Yes. Just... yes.
I fully agree. Honestly, there's someone that read the story and couldn't even read the full thing because it was too monotonous, dull, and dumb. It couldn't scare me if it tried (and it did) and this is coming from someone who scares VERY easily.
I can link the video if anyone's interested.

You're not really meant to be scared by it, it was just a game made for the creepypasta which are just creepy stories. Some are scary some are just fun to listen too. Sonic EXE wasn't meant to be scary (at least not to it's targeted audience) because it was meant for people who read thr creepy pasta. I actually found it a little amusing, I think the popup is the inly thing that frightened me.

Blubcreator : I thought the entire point of creepypastas was to make you feel really uneasy about your childhood favourite things. So, in a sense, they're all supposed to be scary. Something which Sonic.exe fails to do in every way possible. ^^'

OrdannonsX : No creepypastas are just scary stories. Some of them do consist of actual things like Spongebob or Legend Of Zelda stories. But some aren't look at Jeff The Killer or Laughing Jack for instance.

I for one don't find any of the haunted video game stories that great anyways. I just enjoyed playing this with some people to have a laugh at it. Which is basically what I think the point of this was. It shouldn't really scare you just make you have a good laugh with the people around you or yourself.

Blubcreator: Oh. Then I guess everyone just massively misinterpreted Sonic.exe, thinking it was actually supposed to be scary. Including me... Whoops. ^^'

But then, doesn't that actually make it terrible? Because everyone was actually expecting something creepy but got something so laughable and poorly-written? I'm not talking about the game, btw, I'm talking about the actual written story.

I've been looking at creepypasta for a VERY long time, and here's what I think of Sonic.exe: OH LOOK, HYPER REALISTIC BLOOD! OH LOOK, JUMP SCARE!

Realistic blood is overused and bad, and jump scares are scary, but if that was the point of creepypasta, they would be called "Scarypastas".

Creepypasta should make you uncomfortable and creeped out, not wanting to sleep. But the worse a creepypasta gets, the scarier it becomes. (At least, until it becomes something akin to teh day of all teh blood.)

Yeah, I'm actually kind of a fan of creepypastas, but sonic .exe was a poorly written one.
And most of the games made from creepypastas are pretty lame to

The best creepypastas in my opinion though are the ones that are realistic
The ones that
could happen, like 1999

The point of them isn't to be scary, but creepy
They are supposed to be unsettling in a way that's hard to put your finger on
Sonic .EXE was not one of those stories

I think the only reason Sonic.EXE was trending was because it had a playable game and Pewdiepie played it. The story it's self is cliche and the actual game part is bellow the par to actually being scary.

It even got a sequel named, well, Sonic.EXE 2. That story tried to go into depth and make it interesting but that dragged out way too long and was full of bullcrap you could laugh at. They went all into Sonic.EXE's backstory and had a whole murder mystery thing going on.

But hey, it's not a bad as MARIO

It's funny, I was thinking about doing a Let's Play of this, or possibly a review. I never understood why people got scared of these, and maybe it's because I don't understand the whole creepy pasta thing or whatever it is called. It's still interesting though, and really I think the only reason it's popular is because big LPers on Youtube have done videos on it.

Over at gamejolt.com, there is plenty of sequels and spin offs being created for Sonic.EXE

Sonic.EXE is another one of those famous creepypastas that really doesn't seem to cause as much fright as people say it does. It's simply a kid getting a game from a friend, playing it, "spooky" stuff, evil Sonic saying he's god, and a plushie... The sequel was apparently trying to fix this kind of thing, and went into a lot more depth. Unfortunately, the depth just made it run on and on. The first one was at least easy to read in a few minutes. It doesn't help that the sequel tries to depict the protagonist as a detective with a decent amount of experience, while he acts very immature and idiotic through most of the story.

With Sonic.EXE and it's sequel, you really have to pick your poison. Do you want a bad story that only wastes five minutes of your time and gives barely any reason? Or would you prefer a drawn out, overly long story with more description, but none of it is really scary? (Plushie cameras, I'm talking about you)

I'll admit, EXE. creeped me out a tad the first time I listened to a reading of it...but that wore off in no time.  I don't hate the story, I just think it's poorly developed.

I think a story is developed well when I can actually feel the fear, and it keeps me wondering what'll happen next.  The entire story was a giant foreshadowing.  It was obvious that EVERYONE was going to get killed.  I don't know, I guess I missed the point of a creepypasta.  And secondly,  I honestly didn't care for any of the characters; and I know this will probably sound cold, but I didn't even really care for Tails, Knuckles, or Eggman.  Don't get me wrong - I love the characters to death, but they were...kind of written dull.  I just couldn't feel any apathy towards them.   So I do agree that it's not that scary and very, VERY cliché, especially the part about the plushie.  Everyone's using evil plushies anymore, it's just silly now.

Maybe the story could have some potential to actually be disturbing if there weren't so many trite and lazy ideas incorporated into it; but I'm simply speaking my opinion.
